      I agree. I only wish they had a bit more testing. On two different PCs now I've tried NAC X and while it starts off amazing, long play times especially push it to bug out with horrors beyond imagining, like permanently FUBARing game visuals in a save-file-persistent way that no simple game restart can fix. But it takes a lot of time into testing to find bugs sometimes, in any mod. Which hardly anyone ever does when reviewing mods. But which players spending a weekend geeking out will absolutely find. Not that I blame anyone for though. Who has time for deep tests AND video editing? LOL

      @@justsomeperson5110 I've noticed regardless of what mods I'm using a lot of the time what lags out my fallout 4 is after you kill an entity they drop their weapon and that weapon stays there even after the cell resets so over time the longer you play on that save the lagger it will get. I have seen a couple of mods that say they'll remove weapons after a seller's cleared but I've never tried them myself.

    I use NAC X on Series S and love it. I do use a night vision mod as well (WestTek). It does take some time to configure everything to your liking, but being on Series S or a low end machine the ability to limit foggy weathers or remove them completely is advantageous to your performance. I also pair it with Clarity and the patch for NAC X. As for the raindrops...disabling (weather effects) in the mod settings rids the mod of it and all other floating particle effects.

      Nac X can look downright absurd even on Xbox if you config it right, i fiddle with it constantly on my PC, i made RDRII, MW 2019, BF1 and a few other game based presets, the best part is that it doesn't affect performance, my sister uses it on her SS with no performance hit and it looks amazing.

    I've been using True Storms and Darker Nights together essentially since they released within a couple months of the game's release itself. I'm both glad and disappointed to see that nothing better has been made since, since that means I've been playing with a combination of weather mods all this time that suits my tastes the best, BUT it would have been nice to make a discovery that would add something refreshingly new to an old game.

We have a mini version of Boston while they cross miles just to find another place with people... Do you have any idea how much you can add in that big empty space with mods? But sadly Fallout 5 will be out probably at 2028~2030 Earliest 2027 and that's hoping...

    Thanks, man. I appreciate this review. Excellent format and the information had enough character to be entertaining without being distracting. For comparison, what would you consider a low-end GPU and a high-end GPU. I know your setup has changed recently.

    • @PancuroniumB
      @PancuroniumB  4 месяца назад +1

      I've only played Fallout 4 on 3 GPUs:
      The AMD Radeon HD 6870 from 2010, which often failed to load textures because it only had 1 GB of VRAM, but otherwise handled the game at 40-60 fps at 1440x900. I never tried playing on higher settings or with godrays on, but I imagine framerates would have tanked. I didn't play the game very long with this GPU, it was a bad experience.
      The GTX1060M laptop GPU I used next was actually worse because it started overheating late in its life. I had to lock the fps to 30 when playing at 1920x1080 to prevent thermal throttling. I imagine a 1060M without thermal issues or a desktop 1060 would be able to get a locked 60 at 1920x1080 without godrays, or maybe with godrays on medium.
      My new RTX 4060 can handle the game at 1920x1080 at over 100 fps even with Ultra godrays, but a 2560x1440 resolution can take it just below 60 sometimes in forested areas with a lot of godrays. Turn off the horribly optimized todd rays and it's 160+ fps when not CPU limited at 1080p, and 120+ at 1440p.
      I haven't tried 3840x2160 with the RTX 4060 but I'd predict a 60 fps lock would be doable without godrays, and maybe 30 fps with them, they seem to be more intensive the higher the resolution gets.
      Everything depends on resolution. If you want a great experience at 1080p or 1440p, you need a high-end GPU from the time Fallout 4 released like the GTX 980 Ti, or a low power GPU from today. For 4K, you need a more recent, powerful GPU.
      For any GPU, disabling godrays or reducing their quality will provide a massive performance boost, and so will lowering shadow map resolution and draw distance.

    Slightly more on Lightweight Lighting:
    - Includes universal interior imagespace changes. Not too dark, not comically bright any more.
    - Strong colors are toned down ever so slightly so you get less of that weird Fallout 4 thing where reds, blues and greens practically glow.
    - It replaces most radstorms with it's own "polluted" weather type, unfortunate scope creep in an otherwise restrained mod.

      Fortunately it can be fixed in xedit, did it a while back so I forget what parameter it was that I had to change, but they added rain to the radstorms along with darker shadows. Really interesting and enjoyable changes but for whatever reason they changed a parameter so radstorms simply never showed up.

    It's been a while since I played FO4 and my memory is a bit hazy, also maybe others didn't have this issue, but something I REALLY disliked about Vivid Weathers was that the weather in the Glowing Sea isn't always that sickly green that the vanilla weather system forces every time you enter that area.
    I can't recall if VW allows all types of weather or if the Glowing Sea has its own list of possible weathers, but that green toxic mist is such a big part of the GS's character that it feels wrong for it to not be there.

    One big problem I have with Vivid Weathers is that when you enter indoors, the rain audio sounds exactly the same as if you were outside. I’m not talking about entering interior cells, I mean entering a building, like the Red Rocket Truck Stop or a house in Sanctuary. There’s no difference in audio when in shelter compared to being outside, unlike vanilla Fallout 4, where when you enter a building, it actually sounds like you did. The rain audio quiets down a bit, and you can here the pitter patter of the rain on the roof of the building you’re in. It’s much more immersive, because realistically the rain should sound different depending on where you are-out in the open, or in shelter.

    • @connycontainer9459

      I thought that was a vanilla problem that has been solved by a mod ? reverb or st ?

    • @Jeymez
      @Jeymez 5 месяцев назад

      @@connycontainer9459 no it's the mod, true storms is like that to. all you have to do is go into the settings and adjust the sound of the rain and thunder, i had to do that a few times with true storms, because yeah it does get pretty loud and it overpowers the in game audio sound. so to get the sweet spot, set the rain and thunder lower than where you have sound effects set to.
      i think Seventy Six Weathers is the best mod I've tried, but it's still relatively new, and not alot of people talk about it. but if you like how Fallout 76 looked with the weather, it kinda gives that sort of feeling. but other people think it's too colorful, so even i mostly just stick to vanilla,
      however if i do decide to use one, i think Vivid Weathers fits Fallout better than true storms.
      because it gives this bleak sort of feeling, Calamity is similar, but you can't control how that one works. with Vivid you can atleast adjust the settings.

    You also should get:
    -NAC MCM Menu
    -NAC Fogline Fix
    -NAC Fix for Fogline Fix (😂)
    -NAC water LOD and God Rays fix
    and the other 2 fixes u mentioned.

  • @rynlo93
    @rynlo93 26 дней назад

    For me the there are two problems with NAC X.
    First (and the main) - by default there is a Rad Storm Alert enabled. For almost three years we have been hearing air raid alarms every day in my country, and this sound in the game scared me very much (I didn’t know that it was even present in this mod).
    Second problem is that Volumetric Lighting tanks my fps (very) badly. I do not know what did mod's author do with it, because with other weather mods it doesn't drop my fps too much. Also it is too bright (sometimes screen almost white and I barely can see anything). Also I saw some posts on reddit that people have different visual bugs with it.

    I played Fallout 4 last week for the first time. Installed bunch a mods right away, playing on an old GTX 980 or st.. NAC X is pretty good and True Storm and Vivid Weather can be incorporated very easy (I had no clue how far modding had evolved). You can even choose that weather is tied to current in game season or any other thing you want, so you are not forced to choose one and stick with it (even if, you could just reinstall the mod once 3 in game months had passed, which should take a while - alas you dont need to).
    All the other features you disabled, I very much enjoyed. Sunglasses help you see better in sunshine and make it harder in dark areas (visually not perk wise). Nights can be made as dark as pitch black as they should be (IMO), where night vision scopes and horror come into play . Taking daming, beeing drunk etc has nice visuals for 1st person mode. So for everyone who is going for immersion I'd say give it a try.
    I know it's very subjective but I felt this video didn't do the mod any justice.

    If your pc was not made before Skyrim was made, I suggest you use True Storms + Darker Nights. You don't really need Vivid Weather along with it, just get Ultra Interior Lighting + Ultra Exterior Lighting. Also if you like green, use Luxor's Summer there's a bit of instructions on how to make it looks even better at his mod page. Luxor's Summer with all these mods and the HD DLC makes the game looks as if you have an ENB. Especially since UIL has DYNAMIC LIGHTING, had to use caps there because most of the people get an ENB for the sweet dynamic lighting.
    Have fun and Enjoy the game lag free, Unless like I said, your PC was made before Skyrim was made. Then enjoy some lags lol.

    09:11 No, everything else is not the same as Vanilla. True Storms does more than visual weather enhancements. It is improving sounds of the weather as well. That one is musthave mod imo no matter the GPU (its game from 2015 u dont need expensive card)

    Well done! First RUclipsr (at least to my knowing) that has the guts to critic NAC X, the weather mod darling of modder channels. I agree, at the latest when you see how crappy this mod renders rain, it's an uninstall. This together with hilarious and downright immersion breaking weathers, off color 'corrections' and constant heavy GPU load - I have no idea at all why this mod is so popular.
    True Storms looks good and runs fine, Vivid Weathers looks even better and runs (at least without 'Heavy Fog') fine, too (although my GTX1080 handles 'Heavy Fog' at 1440p without any 'sweat').
    I use Vivid Weathers for years now and recommend it as best choice (tip: use 'no season limitation', because snowing looks like 'ash rain').
    Maybe NAC X plays better with ENBs? I don't use an ENB (hello GTX1080), so maybe that's the charme of this mod I'm missing.
    Thumbs up, your video provides a helpful overview of weather mods and your conclusions match my experiences from thousands of gameplay hours with all sorts of (weather) mods.

      I'm playing NAC X on an Xbox One, and while the skies and weathers do look great, I didn't much consider a connection between a bunch of crashes to console that I've had. Those, and frame drops.
      Guess I need a PC to properly run the mod, if I choose to do so at all in that time.

    Nah man this video did not sucked ass.
    Finding this channel on my third FO4 Reinstall its godsend. The format its the best, there is so many options that just knowing whats new does nothing for me there are so many already...I need to know which of the options I should pick from the available for a specific category so I can build something that works consistently with all my mods trough the whole run.
    And the fact that you give me the high lvl overview first its Honest Youtubing my man, I appreciate you respecting my time and I have the Drivables Mod video playing in the background in silence for you after you just gave me the answer.
    I got the game a couple of months ago on a steam sale and it's fking gold. I'm experienced Modding games but first time with FO4, I went trough the main quest on my first go with my version of "Vanilla Plus" and it hold together all the way trough but there where opportunities for improvement.
    I put a lot more time in Modding the game than it took my took me to find Shaun, choose to stay in the institute because that's the only sensible decision, I don't know this people I don't care about their problems and just a couple of months I was in the previous age so I'm just going to skip the post apocalyptic radioactive suffering thanks.
    The second Mod run did not went well, huge drop in FPS and I now thing it was Weather Synergy and should probably drop Vivid Weathers since True Storm ran well on my first run, also side note if you run a couple of radiation damage mod True Storm weather, food and water can be a fking menace which I found it really fun.
    Anyway, just wanted to let you know how great this series has been for me while I build my "Vanilla Premium" so I can do one character and explore the whole game in 1 go.

    Great video.
    I used True Storms and Darker Nights for years on NMM. Recently I had to delete all my mods and start again so I used MO2 and searched for guides, all of which pushed NAC X Legacy. It's been a pain ever since. It took me ages to find what mod had put in that damn siren at the start of every storm. I want to play Fallout, not Stalker. And those stupid rain drops!
    From your video I'm now thinking of ripping NAC out and going back to TS & DN. The Weather Synergy mod sounds good.
    I appreciate your video. Besides the weather mod, I was also confused choosing a water mod and the body/skeleton mods. And then the main texture mods.

    Quality and accurate video, thanks for this, you have had to spend time on the game and editing. I have tried all these mods and agree on almost every point:
    -NAC X touches too many things and certainly adds absurd effects that ALSO interfere with other mods and performance.
    -Vivid Weather is the one I have used the most, BUT it is true that there is too much fog and rainy days, It is simple to use and with a holocast you can change the weather when you are tired of Boston looking like an eternal swamp. It doesn't feel natural, but atfosmeric, looks good and doesn't affect performance much and gave me less problems than NACX.
    -I don't like True Storm, it doesn't add much and I'd rather use Vivid Weathers or Radiant Clouds.
    -Clarity I wouldn't consider it a climca mod exactly and it combines well. I play without god rays (gr off) and without enb, it removes absurd blur, bloom, dof effects, I'm not a big fan of some post-processing, so I'm using it.
    -Lightweight Lighting darkens some interiors too much, maybe it can be useful, but I'm a bit tired of trying different combinations and I don't want to make many more changes.
    What do I recommend? ELFX gives the best interiors, however it affects the performance a lot, BUT it is not because of GPU stress (as it could be a mod that adds forestation) but because of CPU botleneck and/or the drawcalls limitation that Creation Engine has, so even with a Ryzen 5600-5800 you can have problems if you are looking to play at 80-100 fps in interiors. Maybe with a 5800X3D or a Ryzen 7000 you can handle it.
    So I don't know if I would recommend ELFX. Darker nights + interiors enhanced give good results and combine well with "Fallout 4 Realistic Lighting" which doesn't affect as much as ELFX. With these 3 mods combined you get decent interiors and dark nights not as excessive as the ones shown with NAC X.
    I need to try Lightweight Lighting without enhanced interiors and Ultra Interior Lighting. Regarding climatology I like the most: Vivid Weathers, Radiant Clouds and Vanilla.
    Radiant Clouds and Fogs i think that did not cause me CTDs, and as I do not want to combine it with other mods that affect the weather, I have no incompatibility problems. It can be combined with clarity, interiors enhanced, darker nights and interiors enhanced; all simultaneously I mean.
    I play at 3440x1440 with a 5800x + 3060Ti and I don't like it to go below 70 fps, apart from this, there are things about the mods that I don't like.
    PD: I use translate, sorry for bad english.

    You said it might be best to stick with vanilla weather as there's really nothing wrong with it and its best for performance... except vanilla weather has an abundance of god rays that absolutely tank the framerate- especially in heavily forested areas.
    I tried turning God Rays off with an .ini tweak but that just reveals how ugly as all get-out the LOD is in the game. So if a person really wants vanilla weather and great performance they have to turn off the god rays and install something like dynavision to intentionally give their character near-sightedness and make distant areas blurry.
    The healthiest option I think is still NAC X, not for the weathers it adds but for how it simply tones down god rays and balances the existing lighting out to a point where even vanilla textures and models look nice.

    • @PancuroniumB
      @PancuroniumB  10 месяцев назад

      Shadow Boost or Ultra Quality God Rays Performance Fix can be used to lower the quality of volumetric lighting (often imperceptibly) to gain back much of the performance lost from having it on.

You are saying about what with what, without what, what's wrong with it and what is right. Despite F4 being hot topic here I don't find much of valuable info in videos of top fallout 4 talkers. Fallout 4's vanilla weather is pretty good. Lightweight Lighting is probably all most players want or need for a vanilla-plus experience, especially if they are not interested in personalizing their load order significantly beyond The Midnight Ride, which is by far the _best_ "hold my beer, I'll tame this engine!" guide for stability and robust foundations. As a bonus, it introduces no conflicts with Previsibine Repair Pack which should be in _every_ load order regardless of scope or direction.
    NAC X should be avoided like it's 100% genetically Floridian. The amount of unnecessary edits and compatibility issues it generates makes it a nightmare to correctly manage in an expansive load order. Moreover, it just doesn't look as nice as Vivid Weathers. A good concept, an atrocious execution.
    Vivid Weathers will always be the best _compromise_ between performance, visual and tonal consistency, overall compatibility and user configuration. You can achieve a tone anywhere from oversaturated superbloom to a dreary washed out look.
    Clarity and Interiors Enhanced are natively supported by Previsibine Repair Pack so they're always worth using as a base layer upon which to assemble a visual overhaul suite but they are not themselves weather mods insofar as they are visual tone mods. Also, they're both absolutely essential if you don't want to blind yourself on FO4's ridiculous interior lighting cast bloom.

    haha this video didn't suck ass, and was actually pretty helpful. I was using NAC but every time I use that mod I always find something that annoys me about it. I just decided to run without it since I think the base game looks decent anyways, especially with my mods. The only thing I'd miss is the saturation control, but I hear vivid weathers has that an I think I will switch to it.

    3:50 Very well-deserved put-down of NAC X.
    It was such a promising mod for Fallout 4 when it first came out, full of incredible and modular features to tailor the perfect weather set-up... and half of them don't even fucking work.
    It removes all hints of interesting lighting and shading from the game and creates a blurry filter across your game.

  • @justsomeperson5110
    @justsomeperson5110 Год назад +3

    NAC X is theoretically brilliant ... but functionally awful because it's buggy as $#!7 and not maintained. It covers a LOT of things beyond weather. And when it isn't permanently (as in persistent in save files) wigging out the game whenever Fallout 4 runs for too long, it's crashing the game in weird places. Which is a shame. With some bugfixes, it'd have been neat!
    Darker Nights, I absolutely love. But not alone. It really does need to be paired with mods to combat its added darkness. To which I still use good old Pip-Boy Flashlight and West Tek Tactical Optics. Because they work. And make sense IMHO.
