The Marina looks great but I’d never remove the door handles - they’re one of the best bits.
That was one of the bad bits of the car but mainly because the handle holes were not filled very well
@@wattling1396 I'm sure the owner will sort it eventually
And one of the few movable bits that actually worked?
Removing the door handles is a pointless exercise - in my experience they break off quite soon on their own.
That’s exactly what Lotus thought
At 3:44: "Rear wiper is missing - I'm traumatized!" 🤣🤣🤣👍
Would make a great T- Shirt
Wow a MK5 Escort estate. I remember my uncle had the last generation of that escort in estate form in white. Its incredible cars of the 1990's are now gaining classic appreciation now.
If I restore mine ( the green Si in the video ) I would consider changing it to Diamond White as the mkV XR3i which I owned in late 90s was stunning in that colour.
Hi Ian. Great Video as always.
I nearly burst into tears,
Seeing the Beautiful Manta.
I owned a Opal Rekord Sprint which was my Pride and Joy.
Until at Work, I had Parked it ( Legally ) in the Street on a Snowy morning.
Half way through my shift I had a Call from Security "Come out to your Car.!"
I found a Council Truck Well a Truly Planteted into the Rear End. It and I was Devo'd..!
I had just had the Engine Rebuilt, with lotsa Goodies to improve performance.
"Gutted" goes no way to Describe my Greif. It was a Total Write off..!!
Opal made Luxurious cars And the Sprint was Glorious.
I have never owned a Car that came up to the Level of comfort and Speed..!
Thx for video. I need Tea to Settle my Grief..!
Cheers All..!! 😎
The metro is on 6302 miles now.. it was transported in but it was driven out of halls to the car park to be loaded.. thanks for the mention 👍🏻
I loved the Saab cars close to the end of this video Ian! As well as the MG cars!
The Humber Super Snipe estate was one of my favourites. The colour looked incredibly vivid under the lights and it was dripping in chrome. Good report, very smooth camerawork and some fascinating facts from your bottomless well of knowledge.
My mates dad used to have an MG Maestro in exactly the same colours, we used to make him put his foot down whenever he drove us home from Scouts. It was fastest thing i'd ever been in up to that point !! Happy days.
I thought all MG Metros and Maestros had red seatbelts but it seems from this videos that wasn't the case. Wrong again!
@@caw25sha The one i was referring too had red seatbelts, and this guy had an MG Metro before the Maestro and that had red seats belts too. Obvs not as fast though.. They're very rare now, so one in that condition must be extremely desirable
Thanks, Ian - much appreciated for those of us who can't go due to poor health and/or disabilities. 👍
I am proud to be standing next to a rusty CX when you walked by. The CX is one of my favorite cars.
Loved the cars especially the red Maxi just like one I owned over 40 years ago. Loved that car
Unbelievable head full of facts about every car in the show... impressive - good to see you in your natural habitat Ian!
8:10 Beautiful Ford Corsairs...especially the blue convertible...ok I'm envious!
That IZh 2126 Oda (ИЖ-2126 Ода) was a further development of Moskvich 412, which was on sale in UK in the 1960s, manufactured in the same factory as Kalashnikov assault rifles. New body, developed in the late soviet years, in production up to 2000s, had basically the same underpinnings. Rear-wheel drive, 5speed gearbox, engine from the same Moskvich or from Lada, lack of any creature comforts - basically a recipe for a cheapest car on the market.
Thanks for the very interesting background. My father nearly bought a Moskvich for my mother in the seventies to compliment his brand new Rover SDI on the drive. He ended up without the Moskvich and nearly without his wife!😂. I would swap parts of my anatomy for one now!
my uncle had a maestro van in what we called "skiddy brown" he loved it
Wow that Mk1 Transit camper van was absolutely mint condition.
Absolutely in awe of your car level general knowledge. Reckon you would win on mastermind :=)
Always nice to see a Sunbeam Rapier Fastback. Such a tantalisingly short glimpse though. I suppose that's how these things have to be.
There is a full test on my channel for a more detailed look.
@@HubNut I know. I was bothering you to do one for a while :)
that yellow manta & that green valiant ( just shouts australia ) float my boat
That Tatra, though... I'd love an in-depth look at that one. It's such a fascinating car.
It's the T97, little Tatra. Very rare, only produced a couple of years before the Sudetenland was annexed.
I was in a car museum in the Czech Republic last year. Fascinating and beautiful design. And Tatra is only the best known make.
Geoff buys cars loving the Espace as much as you. Also big love for the SAAB 900
Miss HubNut will have to be there when you test drive that little Honda Camper.
That was lovely thankyou for the tour.
It was nice to meet up with you, Matt & Steph at the show on Saturday. Great to see Betty the Fairmont & Matt's Crown Vic cruiser.
What a terrific tour of the first part of the show. Most enjoyable. I only wish I could get there. Lots of cars I love, even if they were seldom or never seen this side of the Atlantic. That Dodge Sierra wagon is something. Uncommon here, so must be a one of one or two in England. With the front end fixed, it is one angry looking beast.
The MG TA was produced in early 1939, to be replaced by the TB. The TB was the rare one with fewer than 400 produced. Production ended in 1940 when the factories turned to making war materiel. The model was popular in North America was the post-war MG TC Midget. Always wanted one after reading a book called "The Little Red Car".
Watching from Canada and enjoying the excellent coverage. Thank you for posting HubNut
Absolutely brilliant video Ian 👌 waw I'm blown away with all those cars Absolutely beautiful pity they don't make them like that any more
Lovely Jubbly, thank you Mr HubNut for those of us who couldn't make it to the NEC, excellent coverage from you.
Mmmm…, MG Maestro Turbo in British racing green for me, please !. Never rated them at the time but drove a Montego Turbo a few times and it was a VERY quick car back in the 80’s. Strangely, I also felt a weird attraction to the MG Metro turbo you showed briefly. Again, I hated those things when I was a young mechanic in the 80’s, but, I guess you mellow with age.
Nice to see Nitrosilvia James’s SD1, mid gearbox swap.
5:56 An ordinary van version of this was used to take Norman Stanley Fletcher to a sooty and gloomy St Pancras on the first stage of his journey to HMP Slade.
Many Thanks for doing this video of these lovely classics. The narration is superb and cannot be easy to talk for 27 mins and not umm and errrrr
these cars are classic the memories of ordinary people somewhat achievable for most families which have great memories for many people rather then Ferraris or Porsches etc
Great show!
One hint van den Plas.
Plas is pronounced as in 'class' , so with S on the end audible.
This is up for considerable debate. Will be a video one day!
That white Transit van brought back so many memories. Uncle Lance drove one and it was used as a local bread delivery van. The unique V4 engine note and those sliding doors. You are OCD on wipers. Sliding doors are my thing and I still love a sliding door moment.
Loverly report, Ian. All of the good times🙂
You're going around all those stands and I'm going... owned one ....driven one ... missed one on ebay.
I had truly forgotten how many cars (mostly real old sheds) I have had over the years , lol
Thank you very much Ian for showing us some very interesting vehicles at the NEC.
It is nice to see a lot of nice looking cars. I agree about the Probe being a nice car. I had a 1994 base model Ford Probe for about 3 years a few years ago. It was the base 4 cyl model with a 5 speed stick. I paid about $1200 for it and it had about 200,000 miles on it. It had a battery drain issue which even after countless hours with the voltmeter could not Sherlock out the issue. I wound up just leaving the battery cable off it when not in use. it also had a loosie goosey shifter due to needing bushings on the shifter cables (I did not feel like removing the heat shield to replace them). Still it drove like a champ and was very good on turns (you could tell Mazda had some say in it) . Mine had a factory button that kept the headlights up with the lights off. I actually like the 91-97 Mazda MX-6 better then the 93-97 Probe as I think the MX-6 looked a bit more attractive
As for the British cars, i have always liked the SD1. They were great (and are still) great looking cars. We(in the USA) had a version of the Rover 800 series. It was a collaboration between Rover and Honda and it was called the Sterling. they were made from 1987 to 1991 and offered 2 models. The sedan (825) and the 4 door hatch (827). The hatch was my favorite of the models.
Thank you for yet another epic show report video, Ian. Your filming and commentary are spot on. Looks like you had a great time. Take it easy (if that's possible!).
Thank you for the great tour 👍
That brown Saab 99 really caught my eye, so nice condition and what a colour, and maybe because i live about 20-30 miles from Uusikaupunki-factory (Finland) where Saabs were made beside Sweden.
But lots of other cool cars too.
Loving the customised HA Van in the background, that brought back memories of Street Machine Magazine back in the 80's.
Good report, well done that man!
Of all the cars to see
A Chrysler valiant from the 70s well done 👍
Really good video and some lovely cars 🚙🚗🚘👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nice to see all those Maxis. Great tour round there, thanks. 👍
Thanks for showing us around. Can't wait for the next part. 👍👍👍👍
Another terrific collection of cars. I do miss these shows. Thanks for giving me the chance to have a look around.
Metros as I indeed had a MK 1 were superb. Lots of space and very fast for a 1 litre engine.
Discoverys a friend got one during the first year and I did a test drive Yes a lovely machine.
Loved the colours on the 4 2CV's. Yes a terrible situation.
Our Nissan Tino is 15 this year time flys. David and Lily.
Another great video has always Ian and miss hubnut and hublets and hubmutts
Good to see some Ford Probes there. The second generation design very much of the 1990s. My mother had 2.5L 24 valve. A quick car.
My eyes are hanging out…😍 Your knowledge is incredible Ian.
Such amazing cars
Wonderful! Thank you so much Ian ♥
The citron yellow Maxi was on Mike Brewers show this week he bought and sold it as part of the dream car show.
Great video content, came across a fair number of those cars in my 47 years in the motor trade. While on the subject of classics, someone that I worked with for a while, ran a 1965 Ford Thames caravanette, which he ran daily, the last time I saw him 3 years ago he was was still using it, he bought it when it was 2 years old, still no rust on it.
Thank you very much Mr HubNut. So much total awesomeness! Tomcats looking good👍
those two restoring the Capri were moving lightening quick in comparison to the ford dealer mechanics who "fixed" my mates XR3i back in the eighties !!!!
Awesome, thanks for the tour. Superb.
Excellent report! Nice to meet you on Friday
Excellent video thanks for the look around 👍 So much good stuff couldn't pick a favourite but I had forgotten just how good a Probe looked.
That is a wonderful show. Thanks for showing it. It is interesting to see cars from across the pond that don't make it over here.
Ian what a great video so many cars and vans what my dad had over the years keep up the great work
Another of nice cars about at the nec
Armstrong Siddeley was part of the Hawker Siddeley group so used names of Hawker aircraft for cars. Bristol did the same, Beaufighter etc.
Great show and a great report! Got to meet the man himself and purchase a hubnut sticker for my tesla. Here's to a great year of shows!
I used to drive a Ghia mark 5 escort around for my uncle's business occasionally delivering parts, have they almost all gone now ? Crazy!
There's quite a few Escorts left, but MkV Si estates are down to one or two left in road worthy condition. One of the rarest Escorts ever built
Enjoyable part one, with so many desirable and interesting vehicles. 👍Look forward to part two.
Good video Ian, was sorry to hear about Julian Nowill, met him a few times, was a really nice person.
That was great Ian. Thanks very much. I liked the Tatra.
What a really enjoyable & interesting video thanks for showing all around the show great job well done 👍👍
Great collection of car history
Once again, great work, Ian! I love these videos!
8:41 just like MY FIRST CAR, also in "Pacific Blue" MK3 Cortina GLX 2.0. Black vinyl roof and it had been stolen TWICE before I got it. £200 to buy and £195 to insure. White Hammerited steel wheels with chrome wheel nuts. Would be worth thousands now.
The Mk5 Escort estate is owned by a friend of mine
Crusty isn't quite to word I would use for that American spec Jag coupe
It was cool
Hubnut briefly alights on a Sierra Cosworth before quickly panning across to a Ford Probe!
It was the first time I've been to the show and was really impressed with the variety and really enjoyed it there was some really nice cars on show the rapier was one of my favourites and the mk1 cortina with 200k on the clock
What a mixture
Great entertainment, as always.
Brilliant video! Love your way of presenting.
Pity your Ford suffered a puncture.
Keep them coming 🙂.
That Landrover 🤎🤎
Marvellous!
Wonderful!
Can you even get modern cars in those glorious shades of green that you saw on the Chrysler and the Sunbeam about half-way through?
90% of modern cars are in black, white or grey. How very boring.
Nice. Some great cars.
thanks Ian, thoroughly enjoyed that.....whilst enjoying a cuppa and jam on toast (plum homemade)
Thanks for this Ian, I'm unable to get there this year so this is fantastic
Great video Ian, a great selection of cars, couple of my favorites in this part would be the Mark 5 Escort Estate finished in Tourmallard or Tourmaline Green or the Fiat 127 mainly because my dad had a escort in that shade of green and a 127 in that shade of blue.
good choices, colour is so important, that Escort in that colour looks superb
Great Escort mk 5b' Estate. Would make that my daily to match my m' reg Si' cabriolet!
Sound choice, the Si estate is finally recognised. Had a great show with L'es
The Nissan Bluebird was my favourite on the pride of ownership stand
My dad bought the first of the discovery's on a G plate. He liked his high speed cruising especially on the autobahns of Europe and soon realised with a a top speed of 90 mph he had not done his home work. Also with no underside protection from puddles the powered steering went momentarily causing some near misses.
There's a guy here (Thailand) selling a MkIII Cortina XL for about £2,000. It was supplied and sold by Ford in Thailand, has never seen a winter and has no rust, but does have sorry paintwork due to 45+ years of sun. It's had an aftermarket AC installation and the heating system removed because a heater is not something you need in Thailand.
I was sort of interested, but it's had the engine and gearbox replaced with a Toyota 2.5 litre fuel injected lump mated to a 5 speed manual box.
It's probably got the performance the original never had but what I loved about the MkIII was the ease of tinkering. There's also the reality of keeping it running, it may be feasible finding spare parts in the UK, but for sales that might have totalled a couple of thousand here, spares are rarer than rocking horse pooh!
Ha, the HY with the Café René on the side 😂😂
4:48 & I was thinking Sunbeam
Ha ha ha the old green Valiant Ranger ,great cruisers that eat up the miles and are massive cars ,my Mate had a Regal in same sorta shell more like a statesman trim level ,265 hemi 2bbl 6 cly .the E49 265,3x Webers and 4spd chargers were the beast and raced at bathurst but were never fully developed due to Chryslers lack of money.
It's amazing, I was there on the Friday, for the full 7.5 hours, but there are cars you filmed that I don't remember seeing, but then again, they were not in my range of interest, but amazing nevertheless! A nice reminder of the day!
Hey Ian. I', absolutely rapt you're taking us around these stands, mate. NZ (well, the top half of the island anyway) didn't get its usual plethora of car meets and shows this summer because most of it we were in lockdown, could not travel intercity and / or still had gathering-restrictive rules in place. I'm therefore enjoying the vicarious look around the NEC-lite.....which is still VERY impressive. Incidentally, that VJ Valiant Ranger you saw had a 1974 NZ number plate on it, so it will be very interesting to hear how it made its way to the UK when you finally catch up with the owner at some point after the show. Funny hearing you wax lyrical about the Probe - me being a GM (Holden) bloke, I was shocked and stunned the day I first saw one and immediately wanted to drive it, to then find out it had a blue oval on it's conk! However, I still really love he look of them and I reckon they too will take on classic status when the time comes. A remarkable looking vehicle - so subtly different from the MX6 (and better looking somehow), yet I never twigged they were the same car until I saw them side by side! All the best and keep 'em rolling in.
A friend of mine was at this . I mentioned your name to him and he went to your stand . He took a photo of betty as proof .
Wonderful! So many beautiful cars... My favourite (guess it): the Renault 5. I ownend one. Not the best example, but I loved her. French cars... oh dear.
Thanks ian I really liked the rovers and the 2cvs and all the cars but the rover and the 2cvs were my favourites!
AY UP MR HUBNUT
