At 78, I can recall hunts where there were four of us in camp, and I'm the only one that remains, but most of those were what could be called the natural cycle of life. Less than two years ago the world lost a great engineer, husband, father of two young children, son, hunter, hunting partner, and friend to so many; he was only 36. His name was Sam. His last big game hunt was on Kodiak. I just wish that I had been more like him throughout my life. I understand and respect what you are doing for Roy. Some might think that it's healing for us to share our pain, but we'll never heal, we just don't want those very special people to ever be forgotten. Keep telling the stories; we're listening, we're watching, we're hurting along side of you, but also be thankful to have known that very special, great person in our lives. Not everyone is so privileged. Thanks for sharing.

Genuineness, with unearthed sincerity. Buried under the depths of things we don't want shown, are truly beautifully. As well as brutally real moments of what people mean to us. Lost my dad a few years ago and there's just a hole there that will never be filled. Hearing of how much my dad affected other's, leads to wanting to be more like that. Giving, with a servants heart. Death is painful and ugly. But it can also be the planted seed through pain that lead other's to try and follow in the footsteps where a loved one that was lost lead. And pick up the joy they carried and carrying that onward down the path, in the direction they were traveling where their journey ended. Telling their story and keeping their truth alive is our greatest gift to them. It's a painful reminder. A tedious trail, traversing the torturous trials of loss. Yet, letting the light in the loneliness. Reflecting that light they had through remembrance and recalling the moments that made them who they were, and still are in our memories.

Thanks for sharing Roy's story and your adventures with him. I've been following you for years. you are an inspiration to many including me. I lost my best friend and hunting partner 17 years ago. He was also my dad. I agree it will never be the same as it was before. Thanks for all you do for the archery and hunting community.

Cam - thank you for gutting it out and sharing this episode on Roy.
As someone who is only a bit older then your sons, I think what stands out to me as I’ve heard stories of Roy over the years is the deep respect, admiration, loyalty, and love that you two had for each other.
Deeper than bowhunting - Roy made you a better man, husband, father, and friend. These are the types of relationships all men should strive for. They are the ones of eternal impact.

As I'm watching this cam I'm balling in tears man . As you speak about Roy I think of my dad . I'm 32 now and lost my dad about 4 years ago to pancreatic cancer. He was my hunting buddy. He would be the only one that would just say grab your gear and let's go we'd get lost out in the woods in search of a california blacktail . Everyone else in the group would either tell us no it's too cold or No there's no deer up there in the national forest. We didn't care ..I didn't care I was sharing Laughs and a camp fire with my best friend and my father. I had just started getting into archery 1 year before he past and fell in love. Watching your videos I couldn't wait to get outa state with my old man and pack out my first archery elk or even connect on any big game animal with a bow with my old man . Unfortunately that never happened and every year after that hunting feels plain . I love to hunt but it just isn't the same anymore . Hopefully one day that feeling will return of true authentic enjoyment and laughter . Cam you are a hero and a legend to a lot of us keep doing you

Roy was a legend thanks for sharing the stories about him I’ve looked up to you and Roy for years, it was hard for not only me but my seven year old son said “dad that’s so sad he lost his hunting buddy it makes me want to cry” I see how tuff it is to share the stories but legends never die his stories are inspiring.

  • @LasVegasOutdoors

Very much appreciate this Cameron. I’ve been following you pretty much my whole adult life. No disrespect at all for this comment Roy Roth is still a legend forever. Think most fishermen and hunters kinda have a Roy Roth in their life. I’m an ignorant city boy who didn’t and still hardly knows much of the wilderness. I’m very thankful to have my mentor and best friend Joebek Werly he taught me how to fish, got a badass boat together and I’m currently pestering him to take me hunting once a tag flys my way. Without him I’d probably still be a drunk in the clubs here in Vegas or dead somewhere living with no passion in life. I think that’s the beauty of this whole outdoor experience is many of us need a type of “Roy” to teach and show us that which they were also taught. And the adventure, the legacy, the reverence it never really ends, just gets passed on like we all do. Thanks again Cameron I’m sure this wasn’t easy and if I had to ever speak for my mentor I’d be a mess! All love #keephammering

If I could ever ask Cameron a few questions it would be:
Your strength of being a (tough) man? Is it you basically being self made?
Or God made or God guided, giving Him thanks along the way?
Deep within you, are you mad at God?
In some areas within yourself are you bitter? As in holding un-forgiveness toward others or even God?
Do you get mad at some dude and have a hard time not being angry at him?
We live in a fallen world where we have free will, to either do good or do evil. We have that choice.
You can go rob a bank or help an old lady across the street tomorrow. It’s up to you.
But it is God who gives us the very breathe in our lungs and the life in our blood to do things.
Though God knows what you will do, He don’t make you. We all chose to obey Him or not to obey Him.
Again this is a fallen world and we have free will.
    Jesus is King
