Nick Grant chats to self-builders Graeme Deas and Stuart Hedley about their Passivhaus project, which incorporated lots of examples of value engineering.
Even though their budget was tight Graeme and Stuart still managed to reach Passivhaus standard and they did this by making good decisions and spending their money wisely. Nick advised on this project, putting a lot of emphasis on designing from the inside out and they discuss key value engineering examples, such as embracing an efficient form (or shape) to the building, keeping the fenestration simple and building on top of a structural concrete slab that was polished to create the finished floor.
The result is a terrific home which really highlights how you can do more with less.

The simple form and aesthetic turned out much more desirable than "the smart look that you frequently see in a magazine" in my opinion. It's a beautiful home. Well done.
Thank you Stuart, Graeme, Nick, Ben and team for making and sharing this valuable and informative video 💚

What a great comment. Value engineering is often a hard sell but it makes so much sense and there is an elegance in simplicity. ^Ben
