How to make a Japanese "Geta" Sandals forever dry!! super quick-drying mat. DIY#14
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 авг 2020
- Hello friends.
Welcome to my channel.
In this case, I created an original design for a traditional Japanese footwear called “Geta" using a diatomite bath mat.
The diatomaceous earth mat is a super quick-drying mat👍
On a rainy day, the soles of my feet get wet when I go out in sandals.
But with these sandals, the soles of your feet will always stay dry.
Diatomaceous earth mats are prone to cracking, but you don't have to worry about Geta.
You can see why if you watch the video.
・This is the video I referred to.(It's in Japanese 😥)

Hi I am Hiroto.
Hi, I am Japonais.
Thanks @peternelson2145 for your comment!
I'm glad you like it!
Thank you 😊
I watched this video because I have an old pair of geta that I want to remake. Very cool and informative video!! I’m happy to know there’s a way to reuse and re-tie the straps!
Hello!
Sandra Hollett, thanks for your comment!
Reuse was very popular in Japan in the past.
It is very important to reuse again and again.
I am glad I could be of help to you.
Wow this is so cool, love the design and functionality
Hello!
Thanks for your comment, Maker Cuisine!

Very nice.
Sadly, I am so obsessively impatient that I can never do a project that takes more than one day, or else I go crazy.
Hi I am Hiroto.
Thanks for your comment, gatocles99!
I see. If you get up early in the morning and start making it right away, you can finish it in a day.
That's what the video is for!
Good luck!
Hi from Germany, glad to find your video! I want to make a pair of Geta for use in swimmingbath and saunabath. they seem to be perfect and look very good too! Thank you for the video! :)
Hi I am Hiroto.
Jan-P Crö, thanks for your comment from Germany!
It might be a bit heavy for use at the end of a swim or sauna, but I think it's good 😀.
I saw the news about the big aquarium tank breaking. Are you injured or something?
Sugoi!! That craftsmanship is what Japanese are known for. Amazing! Keep it up!

You can't find geta that fit your feet even in Japan.

If it is a geta, try to buy one and wear it for a while.
It will become your own geta 🤗.

Diatomaceous earth dust is as hazardous as asbestos, that is why they make "food grade" diatomaceous earth, it's of a specific grind that the dust particles aren't sharp or barbed.
Hi I am Hiroto.
Kraken Slaper, thanks for your comment!
I didn't realize diatomaceous earth was so dangerous! I didn't know that!
But the diatomaceous earth I used was originally used in bath mats, so I think it's safe.
It doesn't hurt at all.
Very creative. I love your style ❤

Did you buy your geta in Japan?
@@craftbyhirotoyamazaki Unfortunately on Amazon Germany there are only Chinese Geta. I think they are not made from one piece of wood but glued on. I still have to wait for delivery tho. If you can recommend where to get proper Japanese ones Online that ship to Europe I might order some there. Thanks you and God bless!

Very well made!! Love the dry mat idea. 1 question, what variety of wood was used? What do the Japanese traditionally use? The reason I ask is so to keep traditions of my mother-in-law, she was from Gunma and recently passed away last year.
EXCELLENT WORK & RE-PURPOSING OLD ITEMS! ありがとう、神のご加護を
Hi Donald Dickson, thanks for your comment.
I'm so glad you liked it. Thanks!
I used Japanese Cypress (Hinoki).
Kiri (paulownia wood), Sugi (cedar wood), and Hinoki (Japanese cypress) are the most commonly used woods traditionally.
So my mother-in-law was from Gunma.
I am so sorry for your loss.
こちらこそ、ありがとうございました。
I'm going to make my own Geto style sandals. It seems they may be able to help my flat feet.
Thanks for the comment 😊
I hope this video is helpful.
Japanese people also have a high percentage of flat feet.
I guess that's why they made sandals like Geta.

Daniel Rosas, thanks for your comment!
The altitude is not so high.
It depends on the season!
It's winter in Japan right now, so I don't wear sandals.
Because it's cold.
Hello, lovely video, i am going to try and make a pair! What wood do you recommend using???
Hi I am Hiroto.

But what chemical makes the mats dry? Is it really safe to have it in contact with your feet all the time?

I seen those once growing up it one of the original wooden sandals do people in Kyoto or Osaka where them
Maiko in Kyoto wear them when they wear kimonos.
They are most commonly worn at summer festivals and when wearing yukata.
Some people, not only in Osaka and Kyoto, wear them with their everyday clothes depending on the season.
