- The fallout from Jake Lloyd's appearance as Anakin Skywalker in "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace" is well documented, but it stands as one of the swiftest and most unpleasant falls from grace experienced by any actor.
I liked him in the movie. I thought he did good at portraying Anakin’s genuine innocence.
Just because they were jealous,they bullied him out of acting,smh.
That's not mentionning the backlash from adults.
Yes, the acting from Lloyd was objectively underwhelming in episode 1, but he was a kid ! Who goes out and starts bullyng a kid ?
Plus, I'm french, and honestly the french dubber did a really good job at portraying Anakin, and I suppose it's the same in most localization.
Ie : it was not even that bad, it didn't ruin the movie. As per usual, people went mad for nothing and ruined a life over a fictionnal character.
Let this be a lesson to us all your words have consequences. Think twice before you hate on someone who didn't do nothing to you.

People hated everything about that film (at the time). I always thought he was pretty good in it.
That's crazy. The kid's acting wasn't the problem.
Jake was treated so poorly by some "fans" especially other teens and young adults. He was directly harmed by being part of the series. The negative affects of the toxic fandom behaviours could be a study of social reactions.

I hope all those same bullies take a long look at themselves in the mirror. They turned a 10 year old boy's life into a nightmare.
The kid could have gone on to do more movies but because of how fucking messed up people are he's faced battles I wouldn't give to my worse enemy.

Unfortunately, he was bullied by the nerds of the era for his bad acting of even worse dialogue. He was just a kid, who should have been spared the negative treatment.

He was too young obviously to the point where he couldn't deal with the negative response that he got for the roll that he played for that character which is unfortunate. Hayden, Christian had to put up with some s*** too
Christensen was old enough to be able to deal with it, unlike the younger Llyod. And the fans' reactions to him has changed into something much more positive than what it use to be. When he walked out onto the stage for the announcement for the show Kenobi at SW Celebration, he was moved to tears by the loud cheers he got when he walked out onto the stage after Ewan McGregor.
I actually loved Phantom Menace when it came out and didnt understand the critics. It was actually the first movie I watched twice in the cinema, which may not say much but consider that I was 13 yrs old and the 2nd time I watched it alone. Wonder how many people regret what they said about it after watching The Last Jedi.

I had no idea. I liked him as Anakin. He was the only Anakin I liked tbh. I always thought the major criticism was of Jar Jar.

I liked the movie! There were silly parts and flaws, but it’s easy to be a critic! It was better on the big screen IMO and was meant to be viewed that way. It doesn’t work as well on smaller screens unfortunately, I’ve seen it at home and the impact isn’t the same.
I've always wondered, if the film wasn't as good as other Star Wars movies, why was Jack Lloyd targeted only, it seems? I mean he was just 10 years old 🤷♀️

The worst thing in that series must have been Jar Jar Binks ! Originally, there was an actual actor who played him, but they went with a CG option with an awful voice (shaking my head through the movie).
Anikin was definitely not an issue in the film. Look at all kid actors around the same age throughout the film industry. Most have had rough starts, few made it without issues, and lots have mental or social issues.

Actors ( and really anyone doing their job ) should
Never be harassed. They did the best they could period. Nobody should every bother young actors ever. If they do well then praise them, if not then silence is all that’s needed. God bless us all

Too many people complaining about CGI in the first place for that to be a viable option.

The kid acted like a kid. I never had a problem with his role, his character, or his acting. I thought they were good. He was acting like a natural kid. And he was a lot less wooden than Liam Neesan, who I normally enjoy in movies.

Ill never understand how peoples can relate a role an actor plays with the actual person. Mr. T is an example of how his role is usually a ill tempered, mean, tough guy when in reality he's an extremely nice guy.
His story would have been a much better origin story for Darthvader.
Including a police pod race chase.

I felt bad for Lloyd. I always thought he did fine. Yes his acting seemed very matter of fact, but i could see how Anakin as a child could be like this. Its almost like he was playing the character as slightly on the spectrum. Jar Jar and many of the other smaller sypport characters, even the way they portrayed the Queen of Naboo was very blockish and boring.

George Lucas should have stopped directing. The bad acting is the director's fault.
The Star Wars crew called Jake Lloyd "mannequin Skywalker" on set because his acting was so wooden. To be fair, George Lucas has never been much of an acting director and doesn't seem to know how to get good performances out of his cast.
It is unfortunate that two actors, Lloyd and Ahmed Best, got so much hate after that disappointing film when it really wasn't their fault.
This is sad because his acting wasn’t that bad. The bad parts were the writing and directing. It is really difficult for talented veteran actors to salvage a bad script and poor direction. For a child actor that just isn’t going to happen.
They should bring him back to Star Wars like how they brought back Hayden Christensen and Ahmed Best
