    Oof, that "MiSTer Pi" name is bad in the same level as the Wii U. A lot of people attribute the Wii U's failure in the west to the general public (who bought Wiis) thinking the Wii U was just a tablet accessory or other unnecessary addon for the Wii. I hope they change that name.

    As someone who when they were building a GBS-control and accidentally grabbed their 12v supply instead of 5v when testing, including 12v is a bad idea. Fried a HDMI port on my monitor when it happened (Thankfully has 2 hdmi ports and other one still works, but still kick myself for that screw up.) Its way too easy a mistake to make after you have been working on a project for a while and will break something.

    • @mjc0961
      @mjc0961 4 месяца назад

      They keep talking about how they designed it for 12V and how they have headers to power 5V boards so you don't need the barrel jack splitter (that comes with some accessories boards because right now you do need them) and they just seem to have no capacity whatsoever to understand that human beings make mistakes.
      OF COURSE people are going to use the barrel jack splitter that came with their USB hub board and fry it because it got 12V instead of 5V.
      And I keep hearing "people need to do their research" but years of existing videos and articles that people are going to find when they do some research are going to tell them to use the barrel jack splitter because that's what the DE-10 Nano has required this entire time.
      Both the decision to use 12V and the condescension towards everyone rightly pointing out that this will cause problems are wild to me.

      @mjc0961 Feels honestly like the makers are a case of technical smart, people dumbs. They are talented and creating something fantastic, but completely lacking in their understanding of people. Much like "Mr. Pi" name, like why would you ever consider even naming it that lol.

    I like the idea of the HDMI mod as it removes a lot of adapters and frees up space. You can still go into a tink4k for the scaling and get a great picture. I think for those with a tink4k and an hdmi splitter its a smart choice. No need for component switchers just straight to the hdmi switch to the tink4k. and much cheaper than the other hdmi solutions.

    I think the multisystem would be better if it had an internal 2.5 bay or NVMe header, since there's extra space in the case, would be great. Also, a PS2-style bay would be awesome.

    • @koalakoa
      @koalakoa 4 месяца назад

      The standard v6 case has space for a hard drive even has the slot and mounting holes for a 2.5 or nvme with mount for use with the internal usb headers.(these disable the rear headers) The system styled cases are thinner and you will need to use an external USB hard drive. The front is removeable and the community has made 3d printed shells for snac controller inputs. These are not under commercial open source license and we were unable to include them.

    Regarding Tito's HDMI mod video that Tito Posted there's a very big point he missed in the video which is unfortunate is there a lot of TV scale 480i very poorly as far as input delay goes and the PlayStation 2 is literally the worst console to do this mod on because so many games only operated 480 mode. My premium lg c2 oled I tested 480i mode and it addedeither 2 to 3cframes I forget which. But iirc it was 50ish ms lag in 480i. And anly a few ps2 games are 480p and tons of the big popular ones do kot. A much better mod on og xbox with tons at 480p and handful 720p.

    i still think the hdmi mod is really silly. there is no need for it to sit inside the console and require soldering, it should just have an AV multi connector and a plastic case and be plug and play.

      There’s one reason that this mod makes sense, and it has to with powering the ADC. An external ADC may require extra power via usb, so this mod would eliminate the need for that. For me personally though, I’d rather use an external device.

    About the M3 mister thingy, it comes with the retrofighters defender from what I'm seeing, whose DPAD is known to be awful at registering everything as diagonals, not great for retro.

  • @Izquierda
    @Izquierda 4 месяца назад +2

    I don't know about going out of your way to install an ADC that simply grabs the analogue output from your console just to have an HDMI connector on it. I guess it'll make sense for about 15 people worldwide.

      That’s a pretty ignorant comment. Maybe spend a moment looking into the difference 24-but color makes for N64 & PS1 cores. Or listen to the podcast I did with Kuro that goes into voltage color and brightness mismatches.
      Just because you don’t understand it, doesn’t mean you should mock people who do.

    £300 for a new retail game, wow, I hope it's at least an 8/10 game lol, I just paid £80 for Retro Game Challenge on DS, and I thought that was a lot and the most I've spent on a single game before, the ElectronAnalogue looks really damn good, native HDMI output for PS2 & OGXB sounds really useful, these consoles really shine @ 480p, and this will mean you can use the mClassic for 480p to 960p, which works like absolute magic tbh with 3D polygon based games, and OGXB @ 960p on a CRT (via HDFury cable) PC monitor (or OLED) looks immaculate via the mClassic, it's literally the next best thing to increasing the native internal resolution, I'm not sure how PS2 games will look exactly however, given that PS2 games are limited to 240p & 480i (the mClassic needs a minimum of 480p), but it will still be a huge upgrade with line double mode, and you can use the mClassic from a line doubled 240p signal (but it looks better with native 480p as the starting point), now if only someone would make a universal HDMI to VGA 400Mhz RAMDAC internal mod for modern GPU's!.
    For the name of the MiSTer clone, I thought "MiSS" made sense, as in MiSTer & MiSS, it made sense to me anyway, and the new MiSTer Famicom Disk case sounds awsome, I am gonna get that as soon as it hits, I have yet to get a TapToo, and I love the idea of inserting a physical game card to boot games, I'm not a fan of game lists, I get choice paralysis, the physical artwork and game labels make so much difference to the experience imo, thanks for another update RGB.

    • @RetroRGB
      @RetroRGB  4 месяца назад +2

      Well, don't forget how much Neo Geo cartridges cost to manufacture. My guess is it'll be FAAAR cheaper to buy the other versions. And maybe they'll even offer a ROM for sale at some point? Fingers crossed, cause I agree - If that's not your favorite style of game, you're most likely not shelling out that cash.

      @@RetroRGB Yeah I get that NG games are pricey, I'd go for the Neo Geo CD if I was to get one personally, as it would be easier to collect for it, though the load times are slow, thankfully we have MiSTer now, I'd love to be able to use real Neo Geo CD games with MiSTer one day, or MiSTer 2, I do love Neo Geo games, especially Wind Jammers.

    I put my MiSTer into an old broken Panasonic Q GameCube case. Gutted it and sold the parts to someone who had a broken Panasonic Q and he used the parts to fix his Panasonic Q. I hooked up the USB ports to the GameCube ports and swapped the GameCube memory card for the MiSTer SD card. I also hooked up the GameCube buttons to the MiSTer buttons and hooked up the MiSTer output to the GameCube output so it looks like MiSTer was built-in to the Panasonic Q. IMHO it is the best MiSTer case. :-)
