      Lmao, I’d get paranoid and panic. No chance of that ever happening. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking it and that would be a blast for some people. Everyone’s different though. I can have a few beers and still 100% be “me”. A few puffs and I want to go relax by myself by a fire pit or something. Or sink into a couch and watch TV.

    As I recall, there is exactly one person from Korea on ebay selling the D9 bezel for the last couple of years and putting any random price they want on it. There are some rare D9 listings with the 4:3 bezel attached. One other annotyng part is the plastic screen protector on the 6” (or 5” depending on where you are) PVMs. I initially thought that it was glass, but no. It’s damaged a bit, so I took it off and thinking about sanding it next, followed with some plastic curing thing. I got the idea from some clear plastic toy restoration video.

    Yeah I remember the pricing on the Sega and NEC unit being nuts. But having the Sega and NEC units gve you the opportunity to plat MegaLD and the NECLD's which could have been HUGE if Pioneer pushed Sega to put EVERY FMV Sega CD game as a LD version on the Laseractive as well. Same with NEC's FMV thing but I think NEC may have had some original LD games.

    Hello bob. Possible news article for next week: it looks like the DMC88 fm towns ode that was preorder announced last year has been cancelled and money is to be refunded. Such a shame as it was going to be both a cd and floppy emulator.

    I wish they'd release the cancelled Flashback Legends GBA game on a SNES cart that matches the 2D side-scrolling pixal aesthetic of Flashback on the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo. They're releasing later this year a direct sequel, Flashback 2, on the PS5 but it's a 2.5D scroller. I love Flashback, it's like a cross between Total Recall, Body Snatchers and Blade Runner with a bit of The World of Null-A by A. E. van Vogt.

    Bob you should really check out the Doom port for the Atari Falcon (16mhz motorola 030 computer from 1992) It has higher quality graphics and effects, also it plays the MIDI music all real-time at impressive FPS speeds! It's called 'BadMood' but in my opinion the author should have just called it 'Falcon Doom' or something, since people don't know about it due to it's name.

    I bought a Forever Pak way back when they first came out. I freaking love that thing and its works so good. I feel kinda bad though. Their shells are super high quality, but first thing I did was take out the board and put it inside an original N64 Memory Pak that had died so that it looked original and functioned like new.

    That pro logic decoder would be great for Star Fox or Final Fantasy VI (3) on the SNES. The positional sound is very helpful in Star Fox 2, wish I still had that old pro logic setup.

      I would love it if an SNES emulator integrated freesurround as an option. Dolphin, Duckstation, and PCSX2 all use freesurround for ProLogic decoding and it sounds great. The trade off is you get slightly higher audio latency since it has to spend more resources on decoding the audio, but I think it's worth the trade off.

    Can you post some information on getting 720p/1080i working on a Sony D9H? I have one, but every time I try and feed it higher than 480p content it appears very dark and/or has sync issues.
    I'm sure there's config menu options that need extensive tweaking to sort it.

    So should I buy the MiSTerX Mini for 350euros,
    or the M3: Marsupial MiSTer Multisystem for $650?

    • @RetroRGB
      @RetroRGB  2 месяца назад +1

      I mean, that’s two very different items. The M3 has the more expensive DE-10, so you’re paying for that…but it also comes with a LOT of accessories. If those were things you planned on buying anyway, the M3 is a better value. If not, the other one would be cheaper overall.

    • @AdamJDM1
      @AdamJDM1 2 месяца назад +1

      @@RetroRGB Yeah, I just want a system that is fully equipped and up-to-date; something I won't have to invest more time and effort into getting it up to spec. I think I'll go with the M3. It's pretty pricey, I'll probably sell one of my AES consoles to cover the cost on it if it's actually worth it.

    Pro-Logic, while better than nothing, will definitely never be as good as true discrete surround, even through bitstream encoding. For many, many years I've been using a first-generation Audigy PCI sound card with the 5.25" front breakout as a tool to accept S/PDIF through an RCA input or through TOSlink, and a modified driver that still included Dolby Digital decoding. I'm reaching the end of how long I'll be able to limp it along admittedly, as I'm only able to get the driver working up to Windows 8.1 so far and VERY few motherboards have a standard PCI slot any more, but it at least does allow real-time decoding of Dolby Digital and certain DTS outputs with very very minimal latency. As the writer of that article mentioned, Wii U and Switch are not compatible because they don't output bitstream as an option, however by using an HDMI switch with TOSlink audio output I'm still even able to get true surround out of my XSX and PS5.

      It may not be as good as a proper discrete multi-channel mix, but it can still sound amazing. My go-to example for an amazing ProLogic mix is the VHS and LaserDisc release of Fantasia. A lot of diehard fans cite that release as having the best sound mix and claim that it's potentially the most accurate to the original Fantasound theatrical presentation that we have. Even listening to the mix in stereo is amazing. But with surround, it's even better. The music actively dances around the viewer. Going from rear channel to the front, then to the left and to the right. And with a ProLogic II setup, it can even dance between the two rear channels. I was never claiming that it's better. But I definitely think having a way to render out a Pro Logic mix into a multi-channel audio format is great for the long run. Because I'm sure there will be a point where AVRs drop ProLogic support altogether.

      For a brief moment, I had a sound blaster X-Fi SB0880 in my system, but I stopped using it pretty quick because after a couple days it would make my windows 10 install blue screen for some reason. Even with the community updated driver. I mainly got it to have hardware EAX support in older games. And it sounded amazing when it worked. But it didn't work for long, which is sad. I also had problems getting this around sound. I would put to work on it. The rear channels would play All the test tones that the creative Software had and even the Windows test sounds, but I couldn't get actual content to play through them. Ultimately, I opted just to go back to my motherboard audio.

      @@chrisfratz I definitely wouldn't say Pro-Logic is bad, for years before I cobbled together my Audigy setup with modified drivers I had used an Audigy LS with stereo input and a Winamp plugin that processed the input in real-time to expand the Pro-Logic signal coming from my PS2 into passable surround. Once you cross the threshold into discrete channel surround, whether it be one of the variations of bitstream or the more modern uncompressed PCM, it's just not the same though.
      You do bring up a good point I had forgotten about that I will absolutely concede on: if you are dealing with older material that was never mastered originally in anything but stereo, or was mastered with the cinema variant of that Dolby principle/technology, having a Pro-Logic 2 decoder will almost certainly be the best way to go. In cases like those, your write-up about converting it to discrete channel audio is a home run, it'd be awesome to take that decoded audio output and multiplex it back to the original video to master for use on modern equipment that doesn't play nice with Pro-Logic natively.

    • @chrisfratz
      @chrisfratz 2 месяца назад +1

      @@MrBluGruv That's what my post is about. One example that I always like to bring up is the Blu-ray release of A Goofy Movie which only has a stereo AC-3 audio track. Very disappointing, but heard a rumor they couldn't find the original audio elements to make a home 5.1 mix. Did a bit perfect capture of the laser disc audio and uploaded a version of it to the internet archive that would sync perfectly with the Blu-ray release. I ran it through my conversion process and muxed it into my rip of the BD and it sounded amazing on my setup. It's why I mentioned that if you have something like a Plex server, it might be worth doing this stuff If you have material that was mixed in Dolby Surround or ProLogic. I believe in my example gif I used audio from the LaserDisc of Wallace and Gromit A Close Shave, which was also mixed in ProLogic.

    • @RetroRGB

      Respectfully, you need to understand how much is costs to make a Neo Geo cartridge: Two PCB’s lots of chips and a ton of assembly and testing. I bet the rom will sell for $10 or $20. These carts are more for original hardware collectors. Also, they’re planning on porting it to other platforms for much cheaper prices.
      I think you should apologize.
