I didn't play the Sly games as a kid, I stupidly pre-judged the games thinking they were gonna be "very kiddy" and I was way too hooked on Ratchet & Clank and Jak & Daxter (among the other games I was playing at the time) when these games came out. It wasn't until I finally got around to the series in 2012 when I was in my early 20s and I was so so upset at myself for not playing them sooner and Sly 2 is one of the reasons for this. Sly 1 was decent but Sly 2 was really something else, not what I was expecting at all because the story was a lot more engaging than I thought it would be. The twists and turns were things I was not expecting at all and I was just surprised at how hooked I was to the story even though they did try to keep it fairly kid-friendly, it was still an enjoyable experience. My only complaint is the way Neyla was handled. I enjoyed her in the first half of the game but towards the end, I was not feeling her as much and it's mainly that I wish they put in a backstory for her as to why she was the way she was. I know they kinda explain it in the manual but it still would've been nice if they devoted a little time to unraveling it in the game. Besides that though, I think that Sly 2 is arguably one of the best sequel games around, a good example of improving on it's origin.
Welcome back, mate. Sly 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. It's the game that taught me the value of finishing games, and that game stories could actually be good. You could say it's one of my formative pieces of media in that way, which is a weird thing to say about a game starring a funny raccoon man lol. But beyond that, Sly 2 is my gold standard for sequels. Everything that didn't work before is gone, and everything that did is cranked up a notch. Characters are once again very solid, but are more fleshed out just by virtue of being playable. Bently and Murray do definitely draw the short end of the stick in mobility, but the both have upgrades that can help mitigate that. Bently gets a jetpack, and Murray gets a high jump, neither of which are as inherently fun as Sly's movement, but do at least make getting around less of a hassle. Sly 3 is a bit divisive, not as much as Sly 4 mind, but it does have some flaws. Mainly that in trying to be an even bigger sequel, it lost a bit of focus and feels a little all over the place. But the way it ends the series, from a story angle at least, is so powerful that it makes up for it to me. All the themes of legacy, and the great and terrible things it can bring you, come to a head in 3's climax, and it's so good. I actually have a half finished video script laying around about it that I'd like to make sometime soon. After I finish the dang Link to the Past video, I've spent way too long working on that thing and I want it done. Sly 2 is a great game. I really enjoyed it when I played it, I can understand some of the points you made during the video. Overall, I'm glad to hear u enjoyed it!
Great timing. I finished Sly 2 and now playing Sly 3. Some of your gripes (similar to mine) are taken care of in Sly 3. No more bottles to collect, Bentley and Murry can pickpocket, mini games are better and story seems tighter. I am at the 3rd level and this may change but something to look forward to
i just completed a new play through of this game a few weeks ago, i had a blast with it, and it was easier than when i was a kid, lol Also, Murry has a high jump ability that can be purchased to help him get up to higher places :0

probably sly 2 is the best
