I was fortunate enough to have met TOTO in 1979 back stage at a 3 day event at the L.A. Coliseum. They are one of most talented bands of all time. Each member is a master at their craft of producing great music. Steve’s guitar playing is among the best ever.

Toto is its own musical planet. The hits are great examples of how to write great pop songs, but don't let that be your only definition of the band, because most of the iceberg is below the surface. they can rock heavily with the best of them, they do killer jazz fusion, very progressive rock epics and sometimes all of it at once. As an example, check out Gypsy Train or Jake To The Bone from Kingdom Of Desire. This is another band you can spend years exploring and never quite get them pinned down. Love seeing you get into this territory.

Original Toto lineup Jeff Porcaro on drums, Steve Lukather on guitar, David Paich on keyboard, Steve Porcaro on keyboards, Bobby Kimball on vocals, David Hungate on bass. These six guys play on the first four albums. Lenny Castro would fill in on percussion and sometimes other session musicians might make a brief appearance. After these initial very successful four albums, many changes in band members took place. Some worked out better than others. Mike Porcaro on bass and Joseph Williams on vocals (son of movie composer John Williams) are examples of excellent additions to the band. Toto IV was the number one album of 1982. Then many members in the band were brought in by Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones to help write and play on Thriller, the number one album of 1983. This band's influence in the rock, r&b, and pop scene from the 70s through much of the 90s is undeniable, yet many people don't really know their history or impact.

As some other people noted, Jeff Porcaro is the drummer here. He is on a number of Steely Dan tracks. Cheryl Lynn was quite an R&B vocalist at one time and that's who you hear here. In addition to being a great guitarist, Steve Lukather is also a great vocalist and that's who leads here. In other Toto songs he and Bobby Kimball would be the lead vocalists with Bobby singing the higher parts. Another great band made up of session musicians. Love your channel and your journey here. You hit two of my favorite songs in one day - this one and Yes' Starship Trooper! Be sure to hit Toto's 'Rosanna' if you haven't already.

Yes Yes Yes!!!!! This is TOTO’s most R&B flavored song; this features the Disco legend Cheryl Lynn (To be Real). TOTO is so much more than Africa and Rosanna; they are in my top 10.❤ They are a grouping of the best studio musicians and songwriters; one of them co-wrote “Human Nature”, performed by Michael Jackson, and TOTO played the music. On a tangent, but I’ve always loved SWV’s take on Human Nature with their song “Right Here”. The TOTO members are all male, and I had the honor of seeing them live in 2018❤

Hey guys, Toto is another band that could lead you down a deep rabbit hole of great songs. They had the perfect combination of excellent songwriting and fantastic musicianship. They were all studios musicians in LA prior to forming Toto. 4 members of Toto (David Paich, Steve Lukather, Jeff Porcaro and Steve) played on Michael Jackson's Thriller album (and Steve Porcaro wrote Human Nature), 3 members (David Paich, David Hungate and Jeff Porcaro) performed on Boz Scaggs' classic Silk Degrees album and individually, several members have performed on a mind boggling number of albums for multiple artists in different genres over the years The guitarist/singer, Steve Lukather, has done the most session work over the last 30-40 years, having performed on >1500 albums by a multitude of artists, including Aretha Franklin, Earth, Wind & Fire, Lionel Richie, Chicago, Donna Summer and The Tubes. He also wrote or co-wrote a lot of Toto's hit songs and has co-written songs for other artists, including the George Benson hit Turn Your Love Around.

"Toto 35th Anniversary Tour 2013 (Joseph Williams)" is safe for reaction videos and one hell of a concert. A "super-group" made up of some of LA's top studio musicians. Between all of them, they have credits on over 1500 other (non-Toto) albums, including Thriller. You can hear hall-of-fame drummer Jeff Porcaro's work in TONS of hits (including Steely Dan) throughout the 70-80's and same for singer-lead guitarist Steve Luthaker's work.
Toto is worthy of your attention! A favorite of mine (and there are many) is "Mama", which is equal parts rock/funk/jazz.

Their first album (which I bought thanks to hearing "Girl Goodbye") was a dreadful affair and my hard rock heart was let down by the rest of the songs on the album because being a mish-mash (miss-match?) of vomit-invoking USA radio friendly barfs and some other stuff that cannot be named properly. In the end, they continued with the vomit stuff and I quit following them. Had better things to do, even if it was staring at the ceiling from my comfy chair. Cheerio lads. Well, starting with Pretzel Logic, at least one of them, if not more, was playing on every Steely Dan album, except The Royal Scam and Aja, through Gaucho. Plus David Paich handled the keys on Michael Jackson's Thriller; and Steve Lukather has played on everyone's albums it seems.
