Plus Elle earned her respect. Not many people would have the guts to come back after being kicked out of class on the first day but Elle took it on the chin and turned it around by working hard and studying which Professor Stromwell noticed and respected
I just noticed something. Her professor is blonde as well! She must’ve suffered the same discrimination adding also the fact that she probably went to college in the 50s when it was even harder for women to be taken seriously. This scene is so beautiful and a true representation of sisterhood💗💗💗
Yeah but she probably couldn’t legally prove it at the time but had enough evidence that she could have ruined his professional reputation so she probably used that information to get him to back off and leave her alone.
Discrimination because of blonde hair? 😂😂🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡😂 oh poor poor blonde girl in the 50s had it hard because men objectified her. Try being a girl with dark skin in the 50s, diмшiт.
Yep. She probably developed extremely thick skin to survive as a blonde woman in a primarily male-dominated field, which is why she is so strict as a professor. Elle may have reminded her of herself when she was younger. It's like how Andy reminded Miranda of her younger self in The Devil Wears Prada lol.
Oooh, you could be right!! Why else would she call a fellow professor a “stupid prick”? I loved this “full circle” scene - the very tough professor who kicked Elle out of class at the beginning is now behind her and believes in Elle’s potential!!
She's an attractive lady in the legal profession. Few decades in the field, which is full of men drunk on their power and ego. If not Callahan, definitely someone else. More likely, multiple instances of inappropriate conduct.
Women in law are often enough aren't taken seriously by older men in law they see only daddy's girls and strippers. It takes alot to even go through a common law schooling let alone a prestigious law school. Yet.our country wouldn't be great without some of the greatest women in law regardless of politics and religion.
No, I think it's more suitable for the story than other men like Callahan have bothered her before, being a 'type of man' that isn't uncommon to see in our society rooted in a misogynistic culture, and yes, the teacher knows what Elle is talking about.
What I love about the scene is that her professor must have suffered the same or even worse stuff (not denaying Ellie's experience). She is in her 50s (I think) and must have been around the same age as Ellie when woman's rights gain victories on the 70's, after years of sexism. So she knows that feeling of men making you feel worthless, and see's great potential in Ellie.
@@EditorOfSL the OP's name is hispanic which would explain why he calls her 'Ellie', which was the name given to Elle in the latin american dub. Probably because 'Elle' sounds like 'he/him' in spanish lol.
It's much more powerful noting that the professor is also a Blonde with blue eyes. It seems like she knows what Elle has been through, and that's why she was the right fit to bring her back up.
I loved this scene. Elle was just saying she thought she’d finally found someone who believed in her ability over her looks in Callahan, and then her other professor turns to encourage her, saying exactly what she needed to hear.
I love how Professor Stromwell inspires Elle to go back in the film. Interesting how in the musical, it was Vivian to get Elle back after she was proved wrong by Elle's amazing knowledge.
I liked that they combined Vivienne and Professor Stromwell in the musical. Gives Vivienne a better arc and more realistic reaction to witnessing Callahan hitting on Elle
One of the things this movie did well was to turn the idea of eternal enemies on its head. Both Vivian and this professor were potential friends and allies the entire time. If Elle hadn't persevered and opened her mind, then she would've given up.
Prof Stromwell always saw Elle’s potential - she got accepted into Harvard Law after all. She gave her that tough push to guide her in the right direction.
She was tough at her only to prepare her and motivate her to work harder. From the beginning she believed in Elle because in her I think that she saw herself (blonde, woman, with blue eyes that no-one takes her seriously because she's woman and she's beautiful). Perfect feminism and motivated scene.
Especially since the professor could have gone to law school from the late 50s-early 70s…the era where women were discouraged from going to higher education. I’m sure she’s experienced hell and wanted to make Elle tougher
I recently ended an engagement with someone who was extremely toxic, gaslit me, never took me seriously with my goals (to become an English professor), the list goes on. I am also in my final semester of studying for my bachelor’s (have an associate’s) and threw my plans away postgrad to be with this person as my sign of devotion to him. I was just having this movie in the background while studying today and this scene almost made me cry. After what I have been through (four years on and off) and this person almost destroying me, I now know I am extremely capable and worthy of finishing that degree by myself without some prick ruining my life. This scene means so much to me now.
Congratulations on your growth!! You deserve not only the degree but also the beautiful future that’s opened up now that he’s out of the way. Rooting for you ❤️
I was married at 19 in college, and my now ex-husband often made fun of the fact he at least earned money, and I didn't (I did work part time) , he was a night time janitor at a hotel / conference center. Well 35 years later, guess who still has a low paying job? Sure it was fine for a 23 yr old but at nearly 60 now? While I own my home, 5 weeks vacation, two cars, etc... he still mainly bikes cuz he can't afford a car. Yep. You threw the trash away.
This is such a healing scene as so many women have been taken advantage by men in power. That it can destroy are confidence and self worth. Also that the strength of powerful women can uplift us and regain our power back.
Legally Blonde will ALWAYS be a favorite movie of mine! Elle had confidence in her looks, but she didn’t have much confidence that she could do anything else… until the end of the movie. Warner broke her heart and she was bound and determined to go get her man back and nothing was gonna stop her. She gets to Harvard and clearly doesn’t fit in. Everybody doubts her… everyone but Paulette. She takes that and uses it as motivation to prove them wrong. She had to work at it, it didn’t just come natural to her.. but she was going to prove them all wrong. And she did! She and Paulette clearly came from two very different backgrounds but she never acted like she was better than Paulette or anyone else. She was always super nice even when people were mean to her. She didn’t break the bonds of sisterhood by giving up Brooke’s alibi. When Callahan tried to sleep with her, she refused. She wasn’t somebody you could just take advantage of like that. And by the end of the movie, even she approaches the stand she’s a little nervous but once Chutney said those words “I got a perm and then took a shower” Elle knew right then and there she was gonna win this case… and this was likely something she knew before Harvard was even a thought in her head. And you can see her demeanor and attitude change. There’s a lot that can be learned from a girl like Elle Woods especially for women and little gay boys watching her, much like myself when I watched the movie for the first time. So thank you Elle Woods and Reese Witherspoon (who absolutely nailed this role better than anyone else could have) for giving us somebody to look up to! 💕
