In reality, Elle is very serious in her relationship with Warner and her responsibilities and academics, getting herself a 179 on the LSAT. But what motivated her to go in the first place was getting a man back. Plus she was already in school. Fashion school is not for the weak minded, it shapes you.
This is all really true, but at the risk of sounding like “that guy”, that’s not the male gaze. The male gaze usually refers to objectification of women in media like film. Examples would be things like unnecessarily zooming in a women’s body, or putting the female characters in non-practical and out-of-character revealing outfits etc. Sorry if I sounded rude, it just kinda bugs me when people use phrases incorrectly. I guess a better way to phrase it might be “she escaped becoming a ‘trophy wife’”.
@@ionabab7274 Though there's better phrasing that what either of you have offered up, I'd say that Baleria's use of "the male gaze" is better than the way you have suggested to make the point because it alludes to a the larger systemic pattern of women being positioned to be object or accessory to a man rather than being an agent in themselves, whereas your phrase, "trophy wife," merely describes a one off colloquial trope (also it's not applicable here, since Warner wanted a smart girl). Indeed, the concept of "the male gaze" is used to describe the gendered ways of looking built into cinema/media as you explained, but the point of the concept is to demonstrate how the gaze in media is a manifestation of larger patriarchal structures of identification and objectification in society. The sorority sisters are so nice bro I want this kind of a group
Brilliant acting by both.
If he knew that his family wouldn't accept her then why he waste her time........
Because he can
Probably because he wanted to have some fun with a pretty girl before he got married.
I laughed when I saw Elle’s response . Definitely a lawyer in training!
Imagine being out and being average looking and watching a guy dump a literal Barbie… I would go home
Her sorority sisters were awesome
Lol like this is one of the last fancy restaurant breakup, then it was over coffee, and now over text
Why would you call someone poohbear before breaking up?
Good job elle woods you got your priorities straight
Warner is the Guy with all looks but no substance
"But I'm seriously in love with you, isn't that enough?"... That was heartbreaking. Glad that Elle won in the end
3:04 the face 😂
Well now she can by herself flowers….😂
Cringe
Write her name in the sand…
talk to herself for hours...
This scene everytime reminds me that when your partner wants breakup then he/she will find thousand of reasons do it 😂😂.
What Warner was actually great for Elle’s character development. She finally realised Warner is not the man for her and how she faced all the rejections and humiliations in Harvard finally made Elle grow up as a person.
I only just now heard that "I won't be having salad" hahahahahaha!!!
Not Alaric Saltzman hooking up with another girl 😂 AND loses her again… yikes 😬
It's actually Warner, not "Warren"
You would think, with Legally Blonde being one of their more famous movies, the person running MGM's RUclips page would get one character's name right.
The funny thing is these names are anagrams of each other.
3:20 to 3:27 the way she squeals 😂
At 3:48 I love when the women in the background says “I won’t be having the Salad” is brilliant
🎶It’s time to get serious, time to get serious with you🎵
Breaking up with her on her birthday is low.
She is sooo sweet❤️
If he was going to break up with her, he should've arrived in a more serious manner. He arrived at at her place acting like they were going to have the greatest fun of their lives.
LOVE her dress! 👗
3:48 "I won't be having salad." 😂
Warner has no idea the huge favor he is doing Elle lol
* Discovers her passion for being a lawyer and sets up what we can assume was a very successful career.
* Meets Emmett, who is so much better for her because he see's her worth and takes her seriously, unlike Warner who underestimate's her.
* Finds a best friend in Vivian.
* Gets to help others like Brooke, Paulette and David, who she most likely formed strong friendships with also.
You'd think MGM could get the names of the characters right. His name is Warner, MGM, not Warren!
The thing is these names are anagrams of each other.
all these years and i never realized he didn’t drink after they “cheers” ‘d
The only thing that’s puzzling me is why Elle and her friends assumed that Warner is proposing to her?
If he hadn’t dumped her, she wouldn’t have even looked at Harvard. He did her a favour.
I would take off my shoes and walk home barefoot. I can wash my feet but I wouldn’t give him that point.
I really again love this movie. And the 2nd one. People should really give the 2nd movie a chance. It's really not that bad. Ok, it's not better than the first one. But, it's as good.
I liked it too and desperate for the 3rd
