- Jim Wilt plays the Posthorn Solo from Mahler's Third Symphony as part of his "From the Safety of My Practice Room" series. He started it as a way to stay motivated and accountable during the Covid-19 pandemic, and to connect with an (e)audience.

I have to admit that I rarely comment on anything on the internet. I leave it for others since I'm not much of a "judge" guy. However, at this ocassion i couldn't hold it back.
Sir, your tone, control, musicality is stunning. I'm aware that these words keep coming here on "comments section" but I'd love to make other people realise how amazing your work is. This is the definition of "pure pro". Every beginning of the note, each phrase, all the notes perfectly centered.. it makes it so pleasant to listen to. On my free evenings I keep coming to this channel and keep repeating all your recordings since your style and aprroach is one of the biggest inspirations of mine. Nowadays, during "internet age" it's so easy to find anything yet so hard to find top quality content. This is one of these. Thank you very much Sir for sharing your work. This is exceptional. All the best and stay safe! Greeting from Poland!
Wojciech Górski Thanks so much for the very kind words, Wojciech.
Mahler ❤️
Beautiful, Jim.
Riley Conley Thanks, Riley.
Beautiful!! My favorite! ❤️📯
Thanks, Rusty.
Jim, I’m struggling to find the right words because that was so beautiful. I’ve heard hundreds of live performances and I’ve been fortunate to perform with many world class musicians. I can think of 3 occasions when I was overwhelmingly awestruck. Mike Sachs performing the Pines of Rome solo in my left ear, Anthony Delorenzo and the Center City Quintet performing Firedance in a small rehearsal room, and now you sir, performing my favorite trumpet excerpt. What a beautiful tone, and perfectly relaxed approach. Sorry for rambling, but I sincerely appreciate the time and effort you put into these recordings.
BobWilson84 Thanks so much, Bob. Such beautiful writing. Mahler had the hard part. :-)
Well done !! Mahler must've been shaken in his tomb..

Could you provide information on equipment choices for this one? A lot of folks have some interesting setups. Do you normally perform this on trumpet as seen in this video?
Yamaha C Trumpet, Chicago Gen 1. Bach 1C, S backbore, 22 throat. Felt beret.
@@jimwilt4944 Sounds fantastic, thanks for the details!
Have you played this in concert before?
Yes - once in Denver (3 concerts), and twice in LA (3-4 concerts each).
