Hate to wet blanket, but the more flux, the less clear the image for remote observers. Esp. if never cleaned w/alcohol afterwards. I'm often left with the sense that everything is still quite messy in these cleaned up areas.
After watching you for all these years I've finally got myself a basic hot air station. Having some fun with electronic projects but maybe it's time to start looking for something to fix.
Can’t tell you how many boards I’ve repaired by removing the jtag connector alone. Now I know you’ve got to use the right amount of flux! Thank you Louis!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I wish to thank Tim Cook for building products that cannot be repaired, thus ending up as toxic garbage in some landfill, also denying meaningful work for tens or hundreds of thousands of independent repair technicians worldwide. What a great guy!
Nice. Thanks for this video upload. I feel like I have missed out on a lot of board repairs lately, because Louis used to wear latex (or nitrile) gloves while repairing boards, just to keep safe from any unsavory stuff inside the computer.
Nothing beats experience, makes me feel like a novice. Caught the water damage by PP3v42, so maybe there is hope for me. Love the board repair videos. Thank you Louis Rossmann!
I'm on a binge watching Pen&Teller magic tricks, because I ran out of Lockpicking Lawyer videos. I ran out of Lockpicking Lawyer videos because Louis is not posting enough board repairs.
I also love the classic "Let's remove the JTAG connector" routine. Happy to see a video containing so much of the classic Louis phrases and routines. Thumbs up! 👍👍
It would be nice if independent repair businesses like yours, or even end users could use the JTAG connector to help with diagnostics and double checking repairs. Mutilating the connectors as a symbolic gesture, then selling them for $20 works too. If it was causing problems, would a mechanic remove and not replace the OBD2 connector from a car to spite the manufacturer, when an independent mechanic can use a reader? Maybe, especially on older cars that won't be seeing a dealership or code-reading mechanic again. Probably completely different, but it is interesting to consider the parallels.

what tips should i be using for my hakko fx888d, mine all seem to suck heat never seems to be at the tip and they loose their tin after single joint. i have to use re-tin in between each wire it’s insane. i got the hakko tips in a kit has all shape/sizes but they all seem to suck

Louis, I just bought a "used" macbook off marketplace today for my birthday. The gentleman didnt give me the password for his apple i.d. I'm at the point where I now have a very expensive paperweight. I'm in buffalo, I dont know if I could ship this to you for parts in exchange for something older that works? I feel like an idiot and in very disappointed in myself. I even tried to call the police department to see if they have a database of stolen laptop serial numbers to return it. What a shock, they dont. The dude I bought this off of isnt even getting back to me. This thing looking back at me is depressing as all hell. Can you help me out please

That is absolutely the most disgusting board I've seen! I'm surprised you just took it and started working on it before bothering to clean it up first. Seem like it would have been easier to work on if it was at least a little bit cleaner before you started. Also, we were promised an ultrasound cleanup after you were done, but nothing. It would be very nice to see the board once completed...and that your fix actually worked! (I.e. the led turned green and board on.)
Liquid damage, liquid damage, always liquid damage... I really do not understand. It is not difficult to not spill water or anything on your computer! If something dies on its own, of course it needs a fix. But damn you need to take care of your device!
You wouldn't believe how many keyboards I've ruined with tea, tea is the great enemy. Always occurs while working, taking lunch at my desk. That is what does this. Surprisingly, I've never had this happen with a laptop, not mine nor an employer's.

something that i think you haven't touched on and you should, is how would prolonged exposure to solder & flux fumes affect your health over the years?
I hate to say i think i know the problem with the low views on these kinds of videos, it's an apple laptop and by now most that watch your channel have sworn off using apple. I am not buying a product, I am buying the product for the minds behind it. I have a Dell Precicion 17" Nvidia powered professional workbook Laptop That I had for 10+ Years using 6+ hours a day and its still going champ.

You don't want to clean the board because you might not see some obvious damage. Maybe use tooth brush on part that is really bad, but not ultrasonic.
