The fact Chaos 2 despite being destroyed in their last fight managed a decent 360 degree flip of my favourite robot Razer prooved that even then they were still well devloped for a robot that remained unchanged in 3 series!!
This was its final fight. However, after this loss, it received an overhaul to bring it back to working order. Chaos 2 continued to fight in live events for a while before becoming a static display, its last appearance being in 2007. As of 2019, George Francis still has Chaos 2 in his possession. And in my opinion, one day it will come back!
I cannot believe they had Razer, Chaos 2 and Hypno-Disc due to fight in the same episode, with the first rounds being three-robot melees, and they didn't take the opportunity to throw the three legends of the classic run in the arena together just to see what would happen.
I’ve often thought about this too, but I have a couple of theories on why Razer and Hypno-Disc weren’t drawn together for that dream matchup: 1. There was a decent chance that both of them could get through round 1, and maybe fight for the right to face Firestorm in the final. Having it in round 1 is kind of like eating the main course before the appetiser. 2. Both Razer and Hypno-Disc took part in the European Championship and Challenge Belt, respectively. Assuming that both events were filmed around or after this, I could see the Producers trying to avoid the risk of Razer or Hypno-Disc having to pull out due to receiving too much damage. The later they fought in filming, the better.
Hmmm. Razer vs. Hypnodisc. I think Razer would get that. They put the squeeze on the disc while it's spinning and it'll tear itself apart from the insides most likely. Hypno would have a chance if they blindsided them though.
R.I.P Chaos 2 😥 Don't think they ever came back with a new robot after this one. R.I.P to Hypnodisc too, Such a shame to see them go out the way they did. sucks that their disc somehow couldn't take the impact with each hit, or they had drive problems. End of era for two amazing robots.
Hypno-Disc was great against the lower tier robots in the main series . . but with some proper opposition they did not cause much damage or do much good. It's still my favourite ever robot of the series.

Another of the episodes I saw recorded, remembered seeing Chaos 2 on a bench by the pits after its 1st round battle on our way to our seats & it didn't occur to me till next series it would be the last time we would see Chaos 2 (& George Francis for that matter) again. Shame really :( Saw the heat semis of this recorded live, used to think Razer vs Spawn Again was a good battle when I watched it recorded but now I look back on it as a adult, it wasn't. But there was a couple of moments not noticed in this final edit, for starters, there was a lot of the 'Razer' chants & secondly, Razer had a few afters with the house robots after CEASE :p though you see running away from Sir Kill-a-lot here. And as a result, looking back Dominator 2 vs 13 Black was actually a good battle (mostly round the pit :D even with Dominator 2 losing drive on 1 side after escaping Matilda's CPZ & my dad even thought it was a good battle too) & very worthy of its place in your Top 100 battles countdown. Given all these battles (& Bigger Brother vs Tornado, the other 2 I will reveal in due course), was worth being at RAF Newton in Nottinghamshire on a school night before going into school next morning back in Shropshire tired but with a big smile on my face!! :p
Wow, I completely forgot how lucky Razer was in this episode. If Chaos 2 had been able to flip them when their self righting arm failed they would have been straight out. Then two strong opponents who were quite soundly beating them get stuck on the walls and torn a new asshole.
Razer is the most overrated bot in RW and rediculously lucky, and benefitted from the rules back then where there was no time limit to how long you could hold another bot in a grapple.
@@Nightwing690 I wouldn't call it 'luck'. Did they have some luck? Of course, it will always play a part. But they were veterans of the Robot Wars, having been in it the second-longest. They'd poured a hell of a lot of time and money into their machine, and they ultimately were deserving of their many titles. Luck doesn't get you an overall total of 7 championship victories, including 2 World Championships and the UK championship. Ultimately, the Razer machine was a devastating robot that earned its victories. If you think it's overrated, well that's your opinion, and you're welcome to it. But while they did have some luck to them, they had their fair share of bad luck. So saying they only had luck and the rules going for them, is unfair, and doesn't do the team justice.
@@Snipergod1024 I think another part of what made Razer so incredible was Ian Lewis as the driver. So many robots tried to copy the crushing arm design and none of them succeeded apart from Razer. The design is clearly massively outdated by our modern standards and I'm glad it didn't get far when robots like Carbide, Apollo and Aftershock were knocking about. Would've been painful to see my childhood get minced.
@@mariomanno1 I honestly think that Razer could've held up, even in the modern meta. Though, I will agree that they are the exception, rather than the rule. Razer is a legend in Robot Wars, and deservedly so. Not just for their robot being destructive, but for the skill of people like Ian Lewis.
13 Black smashing Razer is only a hint of what could have been. Mind you HD's spinning blade is much lower and likely wouldn't hit the beak, but it goes to show that it would have been a crazy fight.

@@TheOneill89 If it does return to action, though, it'll need some seriously strong armour to deal with how deadly spinners have become. Its flipper could probably still put up quite a fight (it was after all ahead of its time), but one hit from a weapon spinning at fuck-knows how many miles per hour now could inflict irreparable damage.

13 Black was vastating to both Chaos 2 and Razer and it was the classic "unexpected coup de gras" that ended the career of a veteran like Chaos 2 forever. Pity it was poorly manouvred cuz they could have given a lot more of damages to Razer than they did.
Despite everything, Firestorm is still my favourite robot of all time. Razer is nice and all and it used to be my favourite but I prefer the front hinged flipper over the crusher. When you get the same fight over and over it starts to get predictable. There were a lot of times I thought Razer would go in this heat but alas, Firestorm can’t have this one... but the Commonwealth Carnage cometh and the reason for Firestorm being my favourite comes with it too...
Perhaps Firestorm 4 was practicing in a Durham circus tent before travelling to Nottingham for extreme 2 of robot wars. That's what won them the commonwealth carnage title. From Joe. X

A right smash up there .i know its called robotwars but i still hate my favorite robots being damaged .ie .all the uk champs i love and a few others like hypnodisc i love too
The idea of George Francis building and entering a Chaos 3 robot should really have been on the cards after Series 5, because Chaos 2 for me was becoming stale up to this point. Even if George admits he hasn't the spare time and money to start over, he could've turned to his close associate, and fellow roboteer (the late) Rex Garrod for assistance. Both of whom had worked on each others robots in the past. Since his departure from the show after the inadequate safety regulations in Series 3, Rex had helped George in making necessary modifications to Chaos 2 for subsequent series, mostly the pneumatic system in the flipper. He also continued competing on the live-circuit robot events with his Cassius machines, as well as a Cassius 3 model which he built prior to Series 6 (similar in design to Chaos 2, with rear hinged flipper, plus side scrimech spikes, and twin rear saw blades). So what with George's situation, it might've been ideal for Rex to loan him the Cassius 3 robot, repaint it, change the logo and enter it in Series 6/Extreme 2 under the guise as 'Chaos 3'.
I'm sure I read somewhere that George Francis came a consultant to Robot Wars after and was therefore not allowed to enter his own robot due to people maybe accusing robot wars of match fixing if he won, pretty sure the same to the original builder of panic attack too.
@@benthomas4430 That makes sense. And his legacy as a roboteer was obviously pretty secure at this point - as of course was Rex's. The two most influential British roboteers ever, the founding fathers of the flipper.
The problem with him going to Rex for help is that Rex had left Robot Wars on poor terms with them due to health and safety concerns for series 3, so Rex might have been hesitant to help build a new robot to complete in the show, even if he did continue doing live circuit things with them. Plus, yeah. George Francis didn't have the time or money to upgrade Chaos 2, let alone build a whole new Chaos 3. Apparently he had been slowly working on a Chaos 3 in his spare time, but due to the aforementioned problems, it was very slow. However, he was a technical consultant from Series 1 of Extreme (which took place between series 4 and 5), so when Chaos 2 became basically destroyed after this, he just took up that mantle for the rest of it I imagine.
Seeing Hypno-Disc losing again was saddening and frustrating, just to see if they could meet Razer in this All Stars but it wasn't to be, i'll give credit to Dominator 2 and Spawn Again they went ham on it and both of them bots would look good as tag team partners.
Poor Hypno-Disc and Chaos 2. They were amazing in their day but just kept slipping behind as Robot Wars evolved, as Philippa put it. George Francis just didn't have time in his personal life to upgrade Chaos 2, leading to its underperformance here, and Hypno-Disc just didn't have the space to evolve. The massive disc was destructive in its day, but as the armour got more sophisticated and thicker on robots, that disc and cutting blades just weren't good enough to get through it, as we saw in their fight here against Dominator 2. The blade really mostly just bounced off their armour, outside of some damage to the front, and since half the chassis is covered by that disc, they couldn't really change it outside of making a whole new robot. Hypno-Disc 2 maybe. Razor is one of the few OG competitors still able to hold its own, but even Razer here is slipped. Again, thanks to the extra armour on robots in the later series, that claw didn't have the penetrating power on the tip, meaning Razer can do less and less damage. If the classic series had gone on for series 8 and 9, I think Razer would have gone the way of Hypno-Disc and Chaos 2. The claw just wasn't powerful enough or able to penetrate enough to get through the armour of later robots.
Any robot going into the ring against Razer and Chaos 2 and surviving deserves recognition, but to be the star of the fight has earned 13 Black a place in legends
Why didn't Chaos 2 just quickly flip 13 Black over, leave it like that, _then_ go after Razer? Sure, Chaos 2 lost to Razer in the First World Championship and George Francis was taking his opponent less lightly than before, but why would he take his chances with two flywheels that he must've known would be devastating to his machine? After all, 13 Black didn't have a srimech. And even if it couldn't be classed as immobile when overturned as it could wobble around on its discs, it certainly wouldn't have been able to mobilise for any effective attack.
I would have done the first round as individual battles 1.Spawn vs 13 Black, 2 Razor vs Dominator and Chaos 2 vs Hypnodisc personally, would have made much more interesting and entertaining battles with the old faithful 🤣
If the 6th wars hadn’t already then this all stars confirmed that both Hypno Disc and Chaos 2 were past their best. The series 6 Hypno Disc wasn’t as destructive like previous wars and Chaos 2 were undone by the srimech/invertibles
@@tyreesetjjoyner1995 because the competition adapted and better engineers got onto the show. Once chaos 2 won series 3, the vast majority started bringing robots that had self righting mechanisms or being invertible as without one meant you were pretty much out unless you got lucky if you were flipped over. Likewise when people saw the destruction Hypno disc provided, the better roboteers made stronger armour so they could withstand the damage. Plus with the force hypno disc was starting to hit machines with, hypno disc started to do more damage internally to itself than its opponents. It’s why it lost in the semi finals in series 6 and this match vs 2 well armoured machines. Plus the increase in the weight limit allowed for more powerful machines to be in the show
Well, Razer vs 13 Black - it didn't need bloody Shunt to join in having a go at 13 Black. Would Razer have got 13 Black down the pit before its motors burnt out if Shunt hadn't helped? This is why the house robots should be scrapped - too arbitrary in who they help.
Uh - hello? 13 Black was in a CPZ - that justified Shunt to do as he wanted. And the House Robots weren't there to treat anyone fairly. The only rule for them was that they shouldn't attack unless a competitor was either in a CPZ or defeated in battle. And considering how well Razer was doing with its claw before Shunt charged in, I'd say it likely would've still pitted 13 Black.

@@cr-yi7ep Is it any more wrong than having arena hazards that may or may not cause terminal damage? Whether with those or with the House Robots, you should simply work on AVOIDING their areas if you don't want to deal with them. If they go out of line, _that_ is when they're penalised, or at least should be. Getting rid of those singular arena spikes in Series 3 made sense because of how they struck harder than necessary and were in barely visible and almost random locations. But with the House Robots and hazards that were clearly marked or simply big enough on their own, they were easier to watch out for. The biggest reason I see for getting rid of the House Robots (if Robot Wars ever returned) would be the fact that the vast majority of today's competitors are tough and destructive in battle without others needing to be involved. We're long removed from the days where most robots were poorly constructed, badly engineered, lacking in combat effectiveness, and made by inexperienced teams more so looking to have a laugh. The need for the House Robots was more necessary back then, both to provide more of a spectacle to fill time and inspire contestants to take the work more seriously to become tougher themselves.
Sad to see 2 of in my opinion 4 great robots(Razer, Chaos 2, Hypno-Disc and Firestorm) from robot wars, in Chaos 2 and Hypno-Disc go out this way, but think they were just tired by this stage. Great legacies for both.
Only Razer was strong enough to keep going here, Chaos 2 & Hypnodisc whilst both legends just couldn't hold it anymore they were both past their best days...

The idea of George Francis building and entering a Chaos 3 robot should really have been on the cards after Series 5, because Chaos 2 for me was becoming stale up to this point. Even if George admits he hasn't the spare time and money to start over, he could've turned to his close associate, and fellow roboteer (the late) Rex Garrod for assistance. Both of whom had worked on each others robots in the past. Since his departure from the show after the inadequate safety regulations in Series 3, Rex had helped George in making necessary modifications to Chaos 2 for subsequent series, mostly the pneumatic system in the flipper. He also continued competing on the live-circuit robot events with his Cassius machines, as well as a Cassius 3 model which he built prior to Series 6 (similar in design to Chaos 2, with rear hinged flipper, plus side scrimech spikes, and twin rear saw blades). So what with George's situation, it might've been ideal for Rex to loan him the Cassius 3 robot, repaint it, change the logo and enter it in Series 6/Extreme 2 under the guise as 'Chaos 3'.
I'm sure I read somewhere that George Francis came a consultant to Robot Wars after and was therefore not allowed to enter his own robot due to people maybe accusing robot wars of match fixing if he won, pretty sure the same to the original builder of panic attack too.
@@benthomas4430 That makes sense. And his legacy as a roboteer was obviously pretty secure at this point - as of course was Rex's. The two most influential British roboteers ever, the founding fathers of the flipper.
The problem with him going to Rex for help is that Rex had left Robot Wars on poor terms with them due to health and safety concerns for series 3, so Rex might have been hesitant to help build a new robot to complete in the show, even if he did continue doing live circuit things with them. Plus, yeah. George Francis didn't have the time or money to upgrade Chaos 2, let alone build a whole new Chaos 3. Apparently he had been slowly working on a Chaos 3 in his spare time, but due to the aforementioned problems, it was very slow. However, he was a technical consultant from Series 1 of Extreme (which took place between series 4 and 5), so when Chaos 2 became basically destroyed after this, he just took up that mantle for the rest of it I imagine.

Seeing Hypno-Disc losing again was saddening and frustrating, just to see if they could meet Razer in this All Stars but it wasn't to be, i'll give credit to Dominator 2 and Spawn Again they went ham on it and both of them bots would look good as tag team partners.

Poor Hypno-Disc and Chaos 2. They were amazing in their day but just kept slipping behind as Robot Wars evolved, as Philippa put it. George Francis just didn't have time in his personal life to upgrade Chaos 2, leading to its underperformance here, and Hypno-Disc just didn't have the space to evolve. The massive disc was destructive in its day, but as the armour got more sophisticated and thicker on robots, that disc and cutting blades just weren't good enough to get through it, as we saw in their fight here against Dominator 2. The blade really mostly just bounced off their armour, outside of some damage to the front, and since half the chassis is covered by that disc, they couldn't really change it outside of making a whole new robot. Hypno-Disc 2 maybe.
Razor is one of the few OG competitors still able to hold its own, but even Razer here is slipped. Again, thanks to the extra armour on robots in the later series, that claw didn't have the penetrating power on the tip, meaning Razer can do less and less damage. If the classic series had gone on for series 8 and 9, I think Razer would have gone the way of Hypno-Disc and Chaos 2. The claw just wasn't powerful enough or able to penetrate enough to get through the armour of later robots.

Why didn't Chaos 2 just quickly flip 13 Black over, leave it like that, _then_ go after Razer? Sure, Chaos 2 lost to Razer in the First World Championship and George Francis was taking his opponent less lightly than before, but why would he take his chances with two flywheels that he must've known would be devastating to his machine? After all, 13 Black didn't have a srimech. And even if it couldn't be classed as immobile when overturned as it could wobble around on its discs, it certainly wouldn't have been able to mobilise for any effective attack.
I'm sure I read in an old interview that George was more worried about Razer originally, but that quickly backfired.

If the 6th wars hadn’t already then this all stars confirmed that both Hypno Disc and Chaos 2 were past their best. The series 6 Hypno Disc wasn’t as destructive like previous wars and Chaos 2 were undone by the srimech/invertibles

amen to that. Chaos 2 and Hypno-Disc were 2 best robots in Robot wars, but somehow, they're not doing very well at Robot wars Extreme 2.
@@tyreesetjjoyner1995 because the competition adapted and better engineers got onto the show. Once chaos 2 won series 3, the vast majority started bringing robots that had self righting mechanisms or being invertible as without one meant you were pretty much out unless you got lucky if you were flipped over. Likewise when people saw the destruction Hypno disc provided, the better roboteers made stronger armour so they could withstand the damage. Plus with the force hypno disc was starting to hit machines with, hypno disc started to do more damage internally to itself than its opponents. It’s why it lost in the semi finals in series 6 and this match vs 2 well armoured machines. Plus the increase in the weight limit allowed for more powerful machines to be in the show

Well, Razer vs 13 Black - it didn't need bloody Shunt to join in having a go at 13 Black. Would Razer have got 13 Black down the pit before its motors burnt out if Shunt hadn't helped? This is why the house robots should be scrapped - too arbitrary in who they help.
Uh - hello? 13 Black was in a CPZ - that justified Shunt to do as he wanted. And the House Robots weren't there to treat anyone fairly. The only rule for them was that they shouldn't attack unless a competitor was either in a CPZ or defeated in battle. And considering how well Razer was doing with its claw before Shunt charged in, I'd say it likely would've still pitted 13 Black.

@@cr-yi7ep Is it any more wrong than having arena hazards that may or may not cause terminal damage? Whether with those or with the House Robots, you should simply work on AVOIDING their areas if you don't want to deal with them. If they go out of line, _that_ is when they're penalised, or at least should be.
Getting rid of those singular arena spikes in Series 3 made sense because of how they struck harder than necessary and were in barely visible and almost random locations. But with the House Robots and hazards that were clearly marked or simply big enough on their own, they were easier to watch out for.
The biggest reason I see for getting rid of the House Robots (if Robot Wars ever returned) would be the fact that the vast majority of today's competitors are tough and destructive in battle without others needing to be involved. We're long removed from the days where most robots were poorly constructed, badly engineered, lacking in combat effectiveness, and made by inexperienced teams more so looking to have a laugh. The need for the House Robots was more necessary back then, both to provide more of a spectacle to fill time and inspire contestants to take the work more seriously to become tougher themselves.
