Storytelling and planned vlogging is the move. I remember starting out with the first type of vlogging that Matti described and it’s great to get started but once you’ve built the skills it’s time to switch to level 2. I remember looking down upon planned out content back in the day, falsely think that it was “inauthentic” and fake and would record pure randomness without any coherent storyline. What I didn’t realize however, is that each video is a transaction where the watcher is giving me their time, and therefore it was my duty to make the experience as best as possible. By structuring vlogs ahead of time, scripting part of events, and then letting events naturally flow as life happens in its own organic way, it changes everything. There’s less stress and more fun because you know the shots you’re trying to get, post production is a fraction of the time, and your quality will go through the roof - leaving your audience with a much better, more exciting and more engaging product. Start planning out your content for the sake of your audience - it’s why you love Matti and your other favourite creators!
I love how you're able to tell a story about how whatever product you're reviewing or highlighting can help somebody else tell their story instead of just doing a boring product review. That and all the amazing angles and down to earth personality. Love the channel, Matti!

My friend sent me your channel and honestly it sparked my fire for creating again! I just bought the Sony ZV-E10 to get back into it and have loved it so far. I love sharing a behind the curtain kinda take on what life is like being a mainline flight attendant because there’s still not a ton of vloggers out there who share that. I like getting more cinematic shots of my layovers and cool destinations vs just talking the entire 10 minutes like you typically see in my niche. Thank you for getting me excited about RUclips again!!✈️🥰
THANK YOU! These videos are seriously so appreciated! Can't wait to see where I'm at (vlogging/editing/filmmaking/all the things) in 5 years! All the tips and tricks are wonderful.
Love your challenge to get the community all sharing what they vlog about. Putting my teacher skills and extreme sports background to the test as I build my brand to give kids adventures that may never have been given the opportunity.
rly appreciate the value in this video, thanks for sharing matti. Most important what i learned so far you need to start, practice, practice, practice... maybe you get better with it, but when you dont start and dont practice you never find out !
My main weakness is the difficulty in speaking English. That is why I mostly use text to speech in my videos. Hopefully in the future I will be able to do vloggin video.Still learning English.😀Matti's videos are always inspiring me...
Why not doing it in your own language? You dont have to talk to the whole world and even if you could speak english very well, does a french man care about english video? A portouguese? People from your country? You get the point.
@@andersistbesser I get your point, tho I feel doing it in English is easier when it comes to growing your channel. Could be wrong, that's just what I found with my channel and not doing it in German
Truth be told, it really takes time to talk to the camera like it’s a person. I always have stuff planned but when I hit the record button, it disappears. 🤣 thanks Matti! We love you!
I find it so much better when there are other people in the vlogs, you can bounce ideas, you can get reactions, you can film alternative views, sometimes it’s just nails to vlog alone
I've been watching dozens of videos before starting vlogging, and this is actually one of the best. It's full of great tips and so inspiring. Can't wait to start! :)
I got a Mantispod over the summer. I love it! Also, I agree: I’ve made quite a few good friends and even some professional connections thanks to my vlogs. Now that the world is “opening up” - or at least, I’m getting back out there - I hope to expand the scope of my vlogs.
Thanks Matti I’m going on a business trip and planning to try vlogging for the 2 days so this was great timing for me. Really useful and straightforward 👍🏻
My biggest challenge when vlogging is that I'll do a first take, it will be great, but then I'll think of 10 things I could have said, so I'll record it again, but then it's never as authentic.
I just stopped the rerecording. As Peter McKinnon said: better done than perfect. Just add 'oh btw guys' or sth to add stuff. Or keep it for a later moment/Video
Thank you so much for this video! I'm trying to get better at creating a story! I feel like my vlogs have been improving a lot thanks to you and Peter Mckinnon!!!
This is awesome. I have followed guys like you, Pete, Teppo and Casey for the last 5 years. I have wanted to start vlogging for awhile. It's intimidating to be in front of the camera. This video has really given me the confidence. If anything, my future grandkids can go on RUclips and see my face and hear my voice years after I'm gone. Hopefully one day I will be half as good as you guys and get a strong following. I will be entering this contest. Not because of the $500 Amazon gift cards but for the experience. Today is the first day of the rest of my life. Who knows, maybe 5 years from now we'll be in the same place (having coffee with you and Pete) and saying, "I can't believe it took me this long to make the decision to start my RUclips channel". Thanks again, Matti!
Thanks for sharing. This is inspiring and a great indirect follow-up to the video you did on iPhone 13mini vs iPhone13 Pro. Your previous video on the 13mini convinced me to pull the trigger on one, and I realized I'm taking a lot more photos and videos because of how easy it is to handle and pull out.
Call me a sucker for marketing, but I watched this video and ordered the Mantispod Pro immediately afterwards, as my partner and I decided to start vlogging our vacations. Some awesome tips here as well - thanks so much!
Matti or anyone who may know the answer, You inspired me to switch from Canon to Sony and I got the A7C. Now I cannot figure out how to make my footage stable. It looks so shaky even with ibis on so I’m not sure what I’m missing. I use the Sony g master 16-35mm 2.8
I find that solo vlogging in public is so damn hard! With a friend no problem, but as soon as I’m alone it’s a real struggle. I get in my head about people seeing me talk to a camera more than I worry about talking to the camera. It’s a very tricky thing to overcome.
thanks for sharing the tips for vlogging! I tried filming vlogging several times.. but i felt like i always missed good story telling.. i will try again and again..
Vlogging is not going anywhere. It's the ultimate marketing strategy for all businesses to humanize any kind of brands!! Thanks for sharing this beautiful insights about vlogging! I was able to quit my 9-5 job in 2 months because of vlogging!! Thanks to all of you!
I’ve brought a vlog style to my channel (I coach football professionally, and super passionate about it lol). It’s never really been done in my niche so it’s taking a while to persuade the community that this style has a place here. I do enjoy the filmmaking side of RUclips though, so sticking at it for sure
Great video! Been keen to start vlogging about medical stuff and the life of a Sydney gp. But also just random life stuff with a medical, psychological, philosophical twist! This is the kick up the butt I need to get the first clip out
Good stuff dude!! I like that Mantispod. I'm happy to see that it's not just me that has to take multiple angles for one shot to tell the story. For me, the hardest thing is the editing, and time for editing. I think you're right about scripting, it would help with the editing. Thank you for that. Funny thing, I needed to hear it again. Great video!!
Matti's Occasional Tips for Beginner Creators are really great and awesome. No Matter what Matti Posts(tbt, it is always great)I can't wait to watch it. Love your Work Matti and keep creating these Dope and Inspiring Videos✌🏻!
Hi Matti and great vid, as always! You and Peter are my two huge inspirations and people I greatly appreciate. I love being behind the lens and could never see myself on the other end. Other then you and Peter what pushed me to vlog was interviewing others. I’m still pretty new but am really enjoying it very much. Thanks for always sharing all your tips and tricks and sharing a part of your life with us all! PS would love to get together and meet you!! Hope I can get a vlog to you in time!
Wow, I suggested a vlog start up video in your previous video and you delivered! Appreciate all the tips on getting started. I'm just put out a few videos and I am definitely a beginner level vlogger with just a phone as gear and iPad for editing. So far I've managed off-camera but am continuously inspired to upgrade my videos. Maybe for another video you can give some tips on the editing process. How to improve ratio of video you take vs video left on the cutting room floor?
Enjoy the mini film fest giveaway!!! Best of luck on winning the $500 and PGYTech is throwing in a Mantispod for each of the winners also 🙌🏻
Maybe you'll actually announce the winners this time...?
Nice to see your Vlog Matti.. Iam from Indonesia
We will wait to hear the winners

All valid points.
I personally research the place I am going too and write down some key points I cover in my vlogs.
Good idea, haven’t considered this as I don’t travel. Thanks in advance!
same here ! thinking about how my day gonna looks like then write down the chapters like from a book, and having an "end"

"treating a camera like a person" I find a lot of depth from that. Thank you, Matti!
his is one of you absolute best videos I've seen! Very creative, meta approach to visually explaining how to vlog.
How to vlog part 2….would love to see your process of scripting and planning
