The biggest difference that I can see between Layne’s and Geoff’s arrangement styles is that Geoff arranges to everyone’s strengths while Layne arranges to everyone’s limits. Geoff makes sure everyone can shine, and Layne makes sure everyone can grow. They make a really great arranging duo for the group in that way!

You saw him in Hoist the Colours! Our drunken sailor is Buckey who was in VoicePlay before his voice betrayed him. He is a voice actor for Disney, he recently did a short/mini - Gonna Walk 500 Miles, he also did the choreography for Geoff's Monster Mash. In 1997, they named the group 4:2:Five and toured. The name signified that they had gone from 4 members to 5. Geoff, Layne, Earl you know and were all original members. If you watch Just Sing, you will see a fair number of people who had been members or guests (make sure to run the captions so you know who they are). The original members started in middle school and by high school they were competing in the schools semi-nearby. Eli was in one of those schools so they knew something about him. He joined a couple of rock bands and in 2010, joined the group (Tony came on to until about 2017 because he wanted to get into the production which is how Layne and Tony came to own Pattycake Productions. In 2012 (i believe) they changed the name to VoicePlay. Put Halo on the list and you will see their first beatboxer, Scott Porter, who became an actor, and also see some photos of the guys from back from the very early days when they started touring. Strangely enough, Layne still really looks like himself after 26 yrs.

When Geoff said “carve his heart out” he was holding a wooden spoon. This was a reference to Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
And the section you noticed about Layne’s eyes (which are beautiful, by the way) was termed by one reactor as “beatboxing while pissed”

The "captains daughter" was a whip/scourge (also known as the cat 'o nine tails) with 7-9 strands of rope (usually with multiple knots in each rope for the ship version. It wasn't unheard of for them to have bone shards, glass or rocks tied in them if it was at a prison for some of the worst criminals.) But it was used to flog sailors who got too drunk to do their jobs or broke other rules. They would tie the offender to either the ships mast or onto a board/plank (which could be where "put him in bed" came from since he would have been laid ontop of it.) and they were whipped infront of the whole crew. And unless they had to run the gauntlet, there was one specific person in charge of flogging, and they would have a lot of experience wielding the whip; so much so, that they would rip flesh and muscle from the sailors bare back with every strike.
Don't ask me why I know that ☝🏻....
They need to have an exorcism after touching that doll.... and maybe drown it in "holy" water....
I'm going to go find a jar of dirt...

Clara the doll is part of Tony Wakim's collection of props at Pattycake Productions. Tony was VoicePlay's baritone for a few years until he decided to go behind the camera instead of touring, and co-owns Pattycake with Layne. Tony was the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera, VP's first theatrical-style video. We first saw Clara in the background in Golden Hour. I hope you react to that one soon -- in it, Geoff's wife Kathy is a toymaker and makes her "perfect man."
You saw Jose in Hoist the Colors. He's also in My Mother Told Me. The guys used a lot of those same Viking costumes a few years later for Valhalla Calling. The cloak that Jose wears in MMTM is worn by Cesar in VC. Which I find interesting, since Jose and Cesar attended the same high school, with Jose a couple years ahead. HTC was their reunion.

People called it 'The Doll from Hell' and Geoff answered that her name was Clara and that she had feeelings....
Cesar and Jose were in different classes, but in the same musical theater projects together in high school.
The deunken sailor Matthew Buckner aka Bucky was an early member of VoicePlay for a while. He and Geoff are still good friends and has helped Geoff out with choreography before, as in Monster Mash. He has done some minis with VoicePlay.

Eli has been arranging for a while but will be in the rotation with Geoff and Layne going forward.
This was Geoff's next arrangement after I Can't Make You Love Me. That one broke our hearts, so then he threatened to carve our hearts out.

The line "I'm going to carve his heart out" actually comes from the movie Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves where the late Alan Rickman, who played the Sherriff of Nottingham said, "I'm going to carve his heart out with a spoon."

I love this one so much. Have you ever seen the show "The Monkees?" It makes me think of that. Clara the doll is creepy af, though. I believe she's best friends with Annabelle. Next time you watch it and Layne is doing his thing with the boat and whale, check out Eli in the background. It's hilarious. I love Jose! He is the perfect embodiment of a charming rogue. 💙

Eli was a year ahead of Layne and Geoff in school, so they knew each other. Their original group was part of a class project the music teacher (also Kathy Castellucci's father) was pushing to get students singing together. Anyway, Eli apparently wasn't a close friend and didn't join until later - but they had very similar backgrounds/training. All of them also worked at Disney/Universal.

Something that I have found interesting and I don’t know if it was just a best composition thing, but in some songs it seems like the person composing it pushes the other (Geoff or Layne) in their skills like a challenge. So if Geoff composed, Laynes part would be a bit more complex and vise-versa.

In some of the older videos, where you see Earl - HE is the other original member. They met in Junior High and began performing together as 4:2Five in 1997.He stayed with them until 2020.
You can see their original beatboxer (albeit only for a very short time) in their cover of "Halo" and in "Just Sing". His name is Scott Porter and he is working as an actor in Hollywood now. When he left Layne said he'd like to give the beatboxing a try and that it would be easier to find a new baritone. At which point, they brought in Tony Wakim, who Geoff worked with in Universal's "Beetlejuice" show. Geoff played 'Frankenstein's Monster', Tony was 'Dracula' and Geoff's wife Kathy was the monster's 'Bride'. If you want to see that, Huldra Draco has a video of it on her channel.
Tony is still actively involved with VoicePlay as he is a co-owner/partner with Layne in PattyCake Productions. He directed the video for "Classical Chaos"

That's their big advantage to other groups/bands: They are able to get all the stuff done. Tony and Layne own the studio and equipment (stage and make-up), are well networked with production companies (like the VŪ-Studio for 'Valhalla Calling' or 'Black Hole Sun'), Eli does the lightning, Kathy (Geoff's wife, herself a singer with Geoff at Universal Studios) organizes all the costumes, props, etc. Others need a production company or a record label for all this, but they don't. They need patreons. 🥰 The only "External" they rely on, is the fantastic Ed Boyer. THE acapella sound engineer No.1. He won prizes, grammies, etc. and worked for PTX and others. He does the "mixing magic" of the tracks/layers and brings us the crisp and high end quality sound of every note and voice.
Arranging was 50/50 to Layne & Geoff, but Eli did "Creep" as his first 'big project' and will do more in the future. You know, they work this way: The one in charge with the monthly project/song, does not only the arrangement, but the story, too and he sings every part and layer(!) of the others to show them, what he has in mind as the result. Then everybody sings his part and may throw in ideas, etc.
You can get a small (short) impression on how this works, when you watch their two "Loop"-Videos. The first one is very short, but the second one shows more and you get a feeling, how this works with the "big monthly projects".😃

And not always true. Sometimes it depends upon what song they are doing. For instance THEY had to pay a lot of copyrights themselves on "Boy Bands in 5 Minutes" Sometimes it comes down to the original song. Not in THIS case, but Klown has explained that at least while he is doing 'live streams' RUclips is more likely to shut him down if he doesn't play it safe.
