In my opinion the 348 is one of the prettiest and most under appreciated Ferrari of its time, I prefer the 80s styling over the 355 and other later V8 Ferrari. Not that I care but of course, the 355 is superior in performance and handling, which is a pretty car as well compared to later Ferraris. But the 348 has these sharper and cleaner lines that truly define an era of Italian design. Also, the black sills on the early cars are reminiscent of the 70s/80s Ferraris. I also think the interior has a very pretty and minimalistic look; just look at those beautiful orange gauges and that gear shifter. Many owners decided to replace the original rims with aftermarket or 355/360 rims, but I personally think they are one of the prettiest details of the 348. Also, they do not look anything like those on the Cherokee. Finally, I don't understand Doug complaining about the rear grille covering the lights, it is just another beautiful example of 80s Ferrari styling and I prefer it over the 348 Speciale design.

It's from the car. Old Ferraris have a black coating on interior trim pieces that over time turns into this tar-like substance. It gets everywhere. I was working on a 1995 348 last week. had to deal with it. Also it's ancient engine management systems.

I've read so many "Doug the type of guy to..." comments that I read that as "Doug the type of guy to review a Lamborghini Countach". These comments are getting ridiculous lmao
The strakes, including the ones over the lights, is what MAKES it AWESOME! The Testarossa also had them over the lights, and everyone LOVES them on that. The real issue with the 348 is it was slated by the press as being a "Baby Testarossa" in a bad way. Now, after all these years, the baby brother has grown up.
My uncle owned a 1992 Ferrari 512 TR, which I drove a few times. The one thing that I absolutely fell in love with was the gated manual shifter. I described it to my friends as "cocking a shotgun" because of the satisfying clicking feeling and sound as you changed gears. Good to know they made a "baby" 512 TR. I will be looking in the classified section for one of these to go for sale in my area. Thank you, Doug, and keep up the good work!
"has the exact same wheels as a Jeep Cherokee" then shows a picture of a Jeep Cherokee with yes, 5 spoke wheels with a completely different shape and design.
Yeah, that's just what we need. Doug fucking up the paint on a Packard with his watch, and flipping every switch a million times in an attempt to be funny.
I've heard this old legend where if you turn off the lights, look in the mirror and say "Doug DeMuro" 3 times, he comes to you in the night and gives your car a Doug score, and then he stabs ya!!!
@@HollywoodF1nah thx im good "The Ferrari 348, in tb and ts forms, made its debut at the 1989 Frankfurt Auto Show. “To many, it was Best in Show,” said Road & Track. “Free of Testarossa excess -- in width, overhang, styling -- this 3.4-liter V-8 is compact, quicker on the track ... ideal.” But the Ferrari 348 proved not so ideal in the real world. Road-testers couldn’t quite match Ferrari’s claimed 5.6 seconds 0-60 mph and 171-mph top speed. Worse, they found the car a challenge to drive near or at the limit. Other shortcomings included a harsh ride, a wandering front end at high speed, and a stiff gearbox"
@@NSixtyFour You've equated 0-60 to how fast a car is. Like whoever can get to the bottom of the onramp the fastest is the champion. That's not driving to me. Any grandma can mash the accelerator. A fast car, to me, is the whole package. Quick steering, quick braking, a tight chassis and a responsive engine. A track is the best measure of that to me, Top Gear-style. Which one of these cars is the fastest to you? ruclips.net/video/5mjuTVsRllc/видео.html
You stopped to talk about the wheels but didn't mention one of the strangest "quirks" that the wheels are directional (left/right) and staggered meaning there are 4 different part numbers for the wheels. OH! And tell the owner the front wheels are on the wrong sides!!
Hey, I'll happily take a 348 or a 355. I love both of those, they were the pinnacle of classic Ferrari design in my opinion. Working on them isn't terribly hard either, you just need to have a bit of time and patience.

The Ferrari 348 TB (the coupe) was my first diecast car, a blue one from Bburago. It was destroyed (burned) almost 15 years ago. I didn't remembered its model (I wasn't the true petrolhead I'm trying to be today), I only knew that was a Ferrari. A month ago, I was looking for an Aston Martin V12 Vantage (my favorite one in the last 4 years) diecast and remembered the Ferrari, not the exact model but the strange blue Ferrari I've had sometime. Until you post this video. 1991 Ferrari 348 TB. I literally cry when I get the model and looked for it on Internet. So great, thanks!
I love these cars! Love the wedge shape! I have a 1995 Spider and the belt service is only $10,000 if you take it to the dealer. I'm having mine done the end of this year by an independent shop and I was quoted $5995. My favorite part of this car is that it doesn't have a lot of tech stuff....and that's good because it has less stuff to break. And that stuff ALWAYS breaks.
Doug did a video about his own Ferrari needing a minor repair. He took it to the dealer so no one freaks out because the car was serviced at "Joe's garage". Apparently this greatly affects resale value.
I think it's one of the best looking Ferraris. Great lines and proportions, especially for it's era. It's the perfect example of "less is more" philosophy. It is the iconic quintessential sports car design.
I've always been a fan of the 348... It might be because I'm an 80's kid, but I've always liked how it looks. I personally think it's a better looking car than a Testarossa... the Testarossa always seemed to big and chunky/blocky to me, and the 348 has that same kinda look, only with less chunkiness. Plus, throw an aftermarket exhaust on one, and it makes a phenomenal noise.
Most guys from the main line wear an undershirt with a t shirt. It's a prep school / Ambercrombe thing. My inner city Italian friends make fun of me for it.
@@sbklvr I don't see why. I live in humid Houston and fare just fine. It helps absorb the sweat and serves as a backup in case your main shirt gets dirty or ruined somehow.
This was an amazing car, I actually chose this instead of the 360 back in 1999. It goes way over 171mph, I actually went 175mph and it wanted to keep going faster but I notice the toll was coming up so I slowed down.
Ah the 348 TS... my best friend's mom had the exact same one and she drove me around in it a few times when I was a teen. You couldn't stop at a red light without having one of these idiots asking how much the car was worth. His mom had as well one of these convertible 500sl AMG which apparently was more expensive.. but it didn't get as much love as the 348. Ah, the early 90s!
Daniel Kemnitz these answers are strange to a non car guy who happens to like to watch Doug-videos sometimes. you folks leave a restroom dirty?? or what did you mean by cleaning?
I agree with everything you are saying Doug, I finally got my 348 after 6 months of waiting for my brother to let it go. The handling and feel of the steering is sooooo much fun. The other wonderful thing is 4th gear. This is where the real power comes into the game .. When you are doing 90 to 100 MPH in 4th there is a lot of torque .. I can jump almost a city block ahead of other cars with ease. This is my second ferrari. I had a Daytona in the 70's (12 cylinder 6X's 2 barrel carborators) .. I don't remember the Daytona feeling like the 348 which is a life-sized Go Cart !!!
Click the link below in the description to see my column on oversteer where I've compiled a list of the best videos on RUclips that teach you how to dougie!
I could write a book about what is wrong with this car, just the main problems as I remember them. The throttle cable will continually get stuck outside the ferrule as the engine moves and pulls it out, this was so bad that during the first 500 miles I had to stop 10 times more to rectify this as I did to fill up with petrol. The engine would be left running at about 1500 RPM rather than tickover. Ferrari fitted about 5 new throttle cables but couldn't cure it until I told them how easy it was, fit a piece of heat shrink over it to ensure it always remained in place. They said they couldn't make any modifications that were not factory approved, so I did it myself and cured it. Any other manufacturer would have dealt with this as a safety recall issue. The rear end always wanted to go faster than the front, making the car unstable and liable to spin in the wet. Black sills and valance - ugly, I got mine painted body colour and improved the look no end. Massive wide sills, unable to get in if someone was to park next to you as the door had to be opened too wide. Steel plates bonded to the top of the sills under the doors, these were kept on with tiny self tapping screws as well as glue. No primer, satin black straight onto steel, when you wash the car the water gets trapped under the plates and rusts them away, when the rust reaches the top, the black paint peels off. Impossible to remove in one piece for remedial painting due to being glued. You need a lot of strength and a heat gun to get them off, and then they are mangled. I had a pair made of aluminium for mine. Gearbox - NO first gear until the car was warmed up. TS roof noisey and squeaks all the time when its in, you can't get in and drive the car when stored in place behind the front seats. The finish on the roof needs special treatment to keep it looking nice, otherwise it goes patchy and matt. The rubbers need silicone grease all the time to stop the squeaking noise. A very heavy car that squashed my axle stands when I tried to change a wheel. Original models had the battery in the engine compartment, the heat from the exhaust evaporated all the fluid away, leaving the battery flat. It was modified to go in the front bumper, but to get at it you had to raise the car and get the driver's side front wheel off! The alternator would fail because it was right by the exhaust and inside the panel under the engine. Later models were modified, mine had a kit supplied with new alternator, several castings, new under engine panel with ducted ventilation for the new fan assembly fitted to the new alternator. New rear wiring loom supplied but the alternator connector was too big to fit through the aperture between the engine compartment and the car so all the wires had to be removed with a special tool, the old loom cut and taped to the new loom, then slowly fed through with the alternator plug being reassembled afterwards. All engine connections had to be removed and the new look used. Almost impossible to do, I still have the special long pliers I bought to do this difficult job using a mirror! Ended up with 1 spare wire with a green rubber ending, it turned out to be the clutch on the air-con compressor, again something that is almost up against the body and well hidden from view. 3 days solid work, but it started and ran first time. (I later found out that as a customer, I shouldn't have been given this kit as it was supposed to have been fitted by the dealer!) That's enough for now, but I think this was the last car without stability control and probably the last made of steel. NOT their finest hour, and when you consider it handled as if it's in the wet when it's dry, as if it's on ice when it's wet, and don't even think about it in snow and ice. A 360 is not much different in price and has an alloy body, proper road holding and stability control, if you want to walk away from every trip, pay the extra as a 348 is really trying to kill you every chance it gets.
Driven one of these and it was a great experience. This and the Testarossa are easily some of the best Ferraris ever made when it comes to just driving for fun and not outright performance.
My favourite Ferrari, the perfect Ferrari shape. Hoovies garage, you know him well, that black one is now 100,000 miles + and doing nicely. Love this car
Honestly because of the popularity of your account, this video could actually cause an increase in price of this car, be careful with your power Doug 😂
Great video. I've watched enough of your videos to be able to tell when you're having fun and when you are driving this car you had a grin from ear to ear like a 12-year-old boy that just found his first playboy! I'm actually in the market for one right now and there is one in my little town that I live in that is for sale but 85000 American is too much so as nice as it is I just need to keep looking. They're getting difficult to find and let you plan a long trip across the country. The fact that there is one in my little town that I live in is very appealing because it's just up the street but I still cannot see myself paying $85000 for it especially with 59000 miles. However the previous owner has had it for 25 years and has all the maintenance records and he just did the belt service. And it's the red with cream and terrier like your example which is my favorite. I'll keep working on him and see if you can get it down to the 60 or 65 mark. Thank you for your video and it was fun seeing you have fun in this little throw back to the 80s/ 90s. I remember being in high school in the 80s looking at magazines, Yes we had magazines at that time and not smart phones, And just drooling over this car. I still think it looks beautiful and I love the strakes on the side. It just screams classic Ferrari and it's hard to mistake it for anything else. I love everything about it especially the raw driving experience that you can't find any more in new cars. Thanks again!
Nythil Doug seriously made me appreciate the Aztec a bit more. I thought it was just a downright terrible vehicle. At least now I think it's got some interesting "quirks and features"
The orange gauge faces and font are part of the nice thing with these years though! The 80's were wild times really, and a lot of fun. .Anyone familiar with late 70's through 90's sports cars has probably come across lowering parking brake levers, too. This looks like a pretty nice car, and having driven a few Ferrari's when working on them, I have gained an appreciation of their quirks. I'd love to be able to afford a 348, that is if I fit in it well! Hell, I'd be happy with a late 70's Dino 2+2!

The 348 is by far my most favorite Ferrari of all time. It came out just a few months after my birth, but it's so modern looking compared to any other car that came out in the late 80s. I always felt that, compared to other Ferrari models of that period, the design was facing more towards the future instead of just resembling what was cool back then. Lamborghini did a similar approach with the Diablo, but I think the 348 still wins the competition!
DavidoggL In the automotive service world, whenever you refer to the side of a car or a component placement in a car, you always refer to it as if you're sitting down from the drivers seat of the car. So rather than saying something like, the driver side headlight. You would say, the left headlight. See the problem here is that you don't know if the car is LHD or RHD. If the car were RHD but you were assuming it's LHD because you're in North America, then you would be talking about the wrong headlight. Same thing goes for when a car goes in to get its tires rotated. But if you're sitting in the driver seat and your perspective of the car is from that point, it doesn't matter if the car is LHD or RHD. The Left headlight is always the Front Left. The exact same thing applies if you are looking at a car in a video. You can't reliably relay the correct information about which side you're talking about because, are you looking at the car from the front of the car or the rear of the car? Are you pointed forwards or are you pointed backwards? So it is universally accepted that components of the car are always referred to as if you're sitting down in the drivers seat since you are always looking forward in the car.
I saw a feature on the F40 some time ago which, if I can remember correctly, needed new suspension units every couple of years costing about £4,000 per corner. I tell you, I nearly spurted my absinthe...
I had automatic belts on my 1988 Mazda 626, but they were on the upper part of the door. I’ve never seen any on a track on the floor before, pretty cool!
A HUGE part of the appeal of Ferraris are their gorgeous Pininfarina bodies, which make them rolling works of art. The 348 is a nice looking sports car, but it's no museum piece.
Back in 90s for pretty much the same prize you Could buy an Alfa Romeo SZ. A very rare car that only few people know. IMO it looked absolutely gorgeous (aaand it has an aspirated 3.0 Busso V6 making more than 200 hp on a very light chassis).
Finally dude! Was getting tired of you bashing cars like the F355 and 360 Modena (one you owned). Yes, I am 348TB owner, everything you said was accurate.

MD4ProductionsMD4 LOL!!
It's from the car. Old Ferraris have a black coating on interior trim pieces that over time turns into this tar-like substance. It gets everywhere. I was working on a 1995 348 last week. had to deal with it. Also it's ancient engine management systems.
You hit the engine latch while driving for more downforce!

It's a dynamic rear wing, too! It's spring loaded so the faster you go, the shallower the angle, so you always get the same amount of downforce regardless of how fast you're driving!

This and the 355 were beautiful designs
Very i like both
Also the 550 and 575. Those 90s Ferrari’s were so choice
It's what you call a sleek design, something very hard to see today.
Absolutely!
I prefer this one, the 355 looks like a microwaved 348
Waiting for Doug to review a Lamborghini Countach

He can review my Poontach. It has VTEC

So... used 348 prices started going up today 👍
6th Gear Garage Serious? Or a joke lol
Joke, but I wouldn't be surprised if these cars are ever this cheap again.
6th Gear Garage I hope you're right!

doktorbimmer What if we told you, we dont care?
My uncle owned a 1992 Ferrari 512 TR, which I drove a few times. The one thing that I absolutely fell in love with was the gated manual shifter. I described it to my friends as "cocking a shotgun" because of the satisfying clicking feeling and sound as you changed gears. Good to know they made a "baby" 512 TR. I will be looking in the classified section for one of these to go for sale in my area. Thank you, Doug, and keep up the good work!
Nicolas Hernandez That’s one of my all time favourite Ferraris!

Yeah, very clever to compare a 40 years old car with a new one
@@NSixtyFour I'm seeing 5.8s for the 2018 Camry V6. Also, run both cars around a track and see who gets back first. It won't be close.
@@HollywoodF1nah thx im good
"The Ferrari 348, in tb and ts forms, made its debut at the 1989 Frankfurt Auto Show. “To many, it was Best in Show,” said Road & Track. “Free of Testarossa excess -- in width, overhang, styling -- this 3.4-liter V-8 is compact, quicker on the track ... ideal.”
But the Ferrari 348 proved not so ideal in the real world.
Todd Simone true... true...
Hey, I'll happily take a 348 or a 355. I love both of those, they were the pinnacle of classic Ferrari design in my opinion. Working on them isn't terribly hard either, you just need to have a bit of time and patience.
Does Italy still stock parts ?
Doug: Doesn't this car deserve a better reputation?
Doug score: nope.
Every video of Doug's I've seen so far the car got a 50 or so out of 100.

Doug the type to stub his toe and shout darn it.
Jeffrey B Cool, someone who can actually purchase the cars Doug talks about
Gtcracker Lol. I saved for years and years! And my other car is 16 years old!
The $4K you save on servicing, you'll lose at the other end when you sell.
Jeffrey B " Only 10 thousand" Jk lol don't kill me.
Doug did a video about his own Ferrari needing a minor repair. He took it to the dealer so no one freaks out because the car was serviced at "Joe's garage". Apparently this greatly affects resale value.

Doug, the horn on these older Ferraris sound absolutely perfect! The best ever.

A woman driving a 348? She must be a fucking viking
I was waiting for the part of the story where you banged his mom...
The bloody truth is that Ferrari customers are not real drivers anymore.
They all moved to Porsche Cayman's... even the 911 has lost its "real driver" fanbase and moved into the "status symbol" class.

(I later found out that as a customer, I shouldn't have been given this kit as it was supposed to have been fitted by the dealer!)
That's enough for now, but I think this was the last car without stability control and probably the last made of steel.
Love the vids Doug but those Jeep wheels are absolutely nothing like the 348 wheels!

The wheels are directional. Two of the wheels are on backwards. Left Rear and one of the wheels on the right side need to be interchanged.
Patrick Chung lol I thought about that too. But isnt left rear right?
Patrick Chung Well spotted👍
