  • As promised, here's the dev commentary! Admittedly I kinda stumbled over my words a bit (as per usual, but I think I did it a bit more here since I'm not used to talking about my own level design). Any other notes and facts that I didn't bring up will be listed in a pinned comment below.

Some stuff I wanted to mention but didn't have time to in the video:
    - At least one enemy from each MM game from 1 to 6 is in this level.
    - The layout for the part that introduces the Suzies in Nitro Man's section is almost directly ripped from a previously scrapped stage I was working on before I settled on Identity Crisis (it was a desert theme'd stage that didn't get far into development, but some of the graphics for it were re-used for the "Sandstorm Base" mini-level I submitted to the Pit of Pits).
    - The palette for the Vacuum Fiend (the green fan-fiend) is actually taken from Quint's palette, since the original Fan Fiend's palette was the same as Mega Man's.
    - There was originally going to be two different variants of water in the final segment that would have had different effects on you, but I scrapped it after figuring the level had enough core gimmicks as it was (that, and it was getting close to the deadline).
Also, since I didn't get the chance to bring this up fully in the previous video, I wanted to address what I'll be doing to avoid burn-out when it comes time for MaGMML3: I'll be taking a similar approach to what Ace was initially going to do. That is to say, recording my initial runs and thoughts while judging the entry levels (then giving my full/complete thoughts after taking some more time to analyze the levels). Depending on how many submissions there are though, it could go on for a while. At the very least though, I'll have far more incentive to finish it.

Man, you added lots of Coltons! Some may say it's bringing a gun to a blaster duel but this robot enemy has personality!

I'll be honest, I thought your level was pretty good, but not first place material. Tier 1 material for sure though. I agree with you about Quarantine Woman, it would have been my pick for first. It was atmospheric, and some of the things the judges slammed it for I felt were qualities (such as leaking bio fluid that WASN'T in the way, it added to the atmosphere of a Quarantine breech) and the MagMML2 Robot Master theme was extremely appropriate for her fight, re-enforcing the level's crisis theme.

What's sad is the original sheet for yellow droid has been replaced. Now we'll never see his original unmodified sheet!

I really liked the idea, it was a creative take on things and felt like sort-of puzzle platforming done well. You're a good designer! Good luck getting away from that burnout!

I'm glad this one won. That 2nd place level, though... ugh...

I think the dinosaurs were like a cross between a Gallimimus and a Parasaurolophus.

Wow man, congratulations! You can think whatever you like about your level, but to say it's not great, creative and all-around fun would not be true.

Wait, you weren't happy with the adhering suzy's part of your original idea?

I honesty wonder what being In that level would be like.

I’ll be honest, I was kind of angry when I saw this came in first place. After being completely and utterly blown away by TSNAF, this much more simplistic level just felt underwhelming. Looking back, I appreciate this level for the good use of its gimmick and overall solid level design, but don’t entirely understand why it came out on top of TSNAF. Although, that level had a couple of mediocre rooms whereas this level was generally well designed all around.

I've had a great idea for a level! It has enemies everywhere, unannounced gimmicks, and even crazy music!
