OH MY GOD! Thank you for listening to my upload! For sure one of my favorite tracks from them, your lyrics are what really drew me into this song. Fantastic!
The words seem to fit the sound so well, but I’m having a hard time to decipher them. Could you give me a small hint on what the meaning behind them was?

Anyway, once I heard the first sounds/music, I immediately heard/saw something sinking/dying/sad. This is a story about a submarine sadly slowly sinking, and all those on board not surviving...hope this helps a little.

The sparse & "sparkly" crackling early synth stuff like this & mid 70s Kraftwerk doesn't age if u ask me & u didn't. I think it sounds more real than the newer more advanced synths.
I experienced them live first on the Tyranny for You-tour and right after Covid. Both here in Gothenburg. Only Laibach has come close to the experience!
The panning between the speakers, space between sound and precision with thought and provoking words. Throughout the decades, this one gets called up and revisited far more than most :)
This is the first 242 Song I ever listened to. I got a mixtape from a friend without any track list and the intensity of the song blew me away. However, it drove me crazy as nobody knew the song and who performed it. Plus, there was no Shazam in the late 80s either. At one point, somebody told me that "Don't crash" was a Ministry song, so I started to listen to their albums in the record store. It took me months to finally discover that this was a song by Front 242. What moment of triumph that was. It is still one of my favorite songs of all times.
This is definitely one of my favorites from them for sure and I'm pretty sure it was the first 242 song I heard as well. I was fortunate one of the clubs I used to go to played this and a friend of mine knew who this was. Definitely sparked a long time love affair with their music.

Probably my favourite Front 242 song because of the imagery it evokes.
"We will always be dismembered", is a chilling line that always stood out.
The defeated, mystical tone of acceptance in the guy's voice saying it as the other voices fade out to focus on the lead line and drum beat.
It's as if though he knows he'll soon find release from the suffocating nightmare and duty, but that will mean death. Painful, brutal death.
Just gives me this vision of a load of faceless corpses being pulverised / mangled from the pressure in the submarine as it plunges deeper into the murky dark depths of watery hell.
In the words of Skinny Puppy:
"Play this music loud, or not at all!"

I wouldn't say simplicity, Daniel B. had a custom sw sequencer made, because he wanted to change oscillator shape per note, which retail sequencers at the time couldn't do, even though the synths were capable of it. So, while the music might sound simple to someone, the ways to achieve the sound weren't. What i can do now with a click of a mouse button, required a full custom SW suite and cc/sysex programming in the 80s. :-)
it's hard for me to describe how grateful i'm to front 242 for releasing this masterpiece exactly like this. If my soul could only take 10 songs to death, for all eternity, this one was one of them

This song is hard to describe how good it is. My love for it started with being in my local record store and listening to Depeche Mode on headphones as they did at the time when the clerk said - Have you heard the Front 242 group?
I bought this record and then I was stuck it was 34 years ago.

Actually, I've just blasted this out on my monitors (Pro-Ac Tablette 2000), the same ones 242 use and it blew my mind. The depth and clarity of this mix is exemplified in this recording from vinyl.

@@horizonbrave1533 Yeah, I wonder too. I read someone say that it was inspired by the film "Das Boot" about being on a submarine during WW II. Not sure if that's true or not though.
@@CuttoothsRoom I always interpreted it as being about soldiers on drugs/steroids to enhance their performance (a common practice in WW2 and Vietnam) and the "Don't Crash" is referring to how they should keep the rage going so the drugs don't wear off but they do and then the soldiers realize the damage done to their bodies and the lives they've taken away

Thanks for posting this version. It's so hard to find, as almost anything in F242's catalogue that's been released after this version came out features the version with more remix work. Don't get me wrong -- I like the more accessible 're-mixed' recording as well, but the one posted here has a cleaner sound and has all the depth and feel of the more accessible version without resorting to more studio mixing effects.

Ugh, my 80's OCD is killing me seeing the cartridge mounting screws installed upside down.
I definitely hear ya. I wanted to mount the screws in the other direction but problem was the nuts that this cartridge came with (those big ones you see) wouldn't fit underneath so I had to mount it opposite. Strangely the instructions the cartridge came with also said to mount in this direction.
It's on a different headshell now and I have proper smaller nuts so can have the screws in the other direction. Thanks for taking a listen, though and the comment as well.

Cuttooth's Room interesting! also one of the 1st 242 songs I heard in a short lived niteclub in Melbourne, Florida called Altered States. I went there one night and I was 18, this was 1990, so I was backtracking a bit. didn't start listening to industrial until 1989-1990. before that was Smiths, Cure, Dead Kennedys, Erasure, Depeche Mode, PSB.. etc. then I got into the more darker stuff goth and Industrial.
They also played Sisters Of Mercy's "Marian" that night in the club and then I fell in love with them as well as Front 242 that night

Definitely some good memories from back then, right? I'm not sure which club I first heard them at, it was either Pink Cadillac or Wave Waikiki, both great clubs. All those bands II used listen to a lot, I was heavily into goth and industrial as well as the mod scene back then. I just wish I had my Sisters of Mercy vinyl still, but happily still have all my Dead Can Dance albums.
Cuttooth's Room I discovered DCD later, around 1992, and searched *in vain* (LOL) for their LPs, but at that time (maybe closer to '94) only found their new album "Into The Labyrinth", then to my surprise, as I'm sure you know, they at that time re-released ALL their early 4ad releases. lucky you for having the vinyl tho.

This is a scene from the second part. His comrade did not want to shoot the Hitler Youth. Because they are children. And went out with a white flag. And the kids shot him. The Soviet army opened fire and eventually the German detachment surrendered. They found an adult SS man among the teenagers. They took him out and shot him (this is a shot of the shooting scene).
I watched only one film in which this actor played. The film was called "Ascent"("Восхождение" 1976). This movie is on RUclips with English subtitles.
Pretty good movie. Also about the Great Patriotic War (Eastern Front of World War II). About the moral dilemmas that a person faces if he wants to survive in captivity by the Nazis.
