Halvorsen 25 Gets a Makeover

- SEA-MIST (1947) is a Halvorsen Standard 25 cruiser and was looking a little tired. Retired shipwright Ian Smith took the boat to the yard of a former colleague Simon Sadubin of Sydney Wooden Boats where they gave her a makeover. They used the Slipaway cradle system to pick up the boat a a standard boat ramp.

I was the 3rd owner of the Sea Mist . I bought it from Bruce Kinamont who was a tug skipper . I bought it from him and rebuilt the cabin . I’m a shipwright / naval architect and we spent quite a few years holidaying on her at Pittwater . The trips from Sydney harbour to Pittwater and back were always pretty exciting . I sold the boat to Warren Beverage and we maintained the boat on our slipway at Greenwich for the next ten odd years. We installed a small yanmar diesel to replace the old BMC petrol engine . Nice to see she is still going .

Beautiful face-lift/paint job. Any timber repair/replacements? It sure looked like there was some rot going on in a few of those pictures. Or was that from the previous work?
Front windscreen frame and a few bits of cabin sides had to be replaced.
Great video, nice narrration, great job. How much does Sea Mist weigh?
I don’t know for sure, but I guess around 2000 kg (2 tons).

Plus the rest I'd say! My 19ft WL x 6ft beam x 2ft draw carvel, full cabin, putt putt "Gentleman's Launch" 😁 with a 10hp Simplex motor surprised me massively on the Akuna Bay forklift scales one day when weighing in at 2.25 tonnes. Add 160kg of fresh water, 60kg of fuel and that's 2.5 tonne. I was seriously shocked. So your Halvo would have to be closer to 3000kg.
BTW, I just spoke to Peter at Slip-a-way. No more cradles around the Sydney region. He's moving to QLD.
