    I've used lizard skin (sound) for many parts of my project.
    Best advice I can pass along is DO NOT use blue painters tape, it's a mess to get off, use 3m yellow painters tape or their green bodywork tape.
    Ive left the tape on thru the first coat,let it cure, and when I spray the 2nd coat as soon as it's sprayed ,start removing your masking tape.
    Came right off alot easier because it's still wet and softens the tape up a little.

    You can use the blue tape, you just have to take it off before it dries. Like any paint job. All n all came out awesome

    So its been about 5 years how are you liking the Lizard Skin liner? Worth the time and effort? Would you do it over again?

    I hope that long term this works out for you. I did my antique car resto in 2005 with lizard skin, and sold that car a couple of years ago. The guy who bought it made some changes, and he said the lizard skin came off in sheets. I hope it's because I did something wrong in prep, and not a failing of the product.

    Maybe silicon plugs for powder coating, drinking straws, and coffee stirrers will work well to keep the holes open.

    I am going to use this inside my 1969 plymouth GTX. Good product and much less than dynamat sound deadner.

    How is the product holding up ?

    Looks great man! I’m getting ready to lizardskin sound then heat spray my 54 pickup interior. I did Dynamat Xtreme in the hidden spots but my handmade firewall, trans tunnel, and inside roof all show and dynamat is ugly. I’m going to leave the textured lizard ceramic finish showing but yours looks awesome painted. I appreciate the way you showed the (tiny) flaws in your results. When I do mine I’ll have to pull the foil or tape after each process starts to set up so it doesn’t stick or tear.
    Thanks!

      The rep for Lizardskin was pretty clear that his product should be covered with a clear coat such as their TopCoat. Would hate to go to all that work and have it start deteriorating due to lack of protection.

      Interesting. Mine won’t be outside or really see feet or cargo like yours but I’ll look into a topcoat. Thansk!

    I too was wondering what top coat you used. I'm not a painter, at all, so it's a bit intimidating. LS uses urethane. I gather no primer was used on top of the LS? The guys at my local paint shop are giving me the stink eye when I try to describe what I want to do. Have all four coats in my Land Cruiser FJ40 and am waiting on full cure. Any good words appreciated. Thx.

    Looks awesome. Did you say you used epoxy paint for top coat? The lizard skin scratches easy, so I am thinking about spraying color match bed liner on top, but I really like the way your top coat looks. Can you let me know what type of top coat you used. Thank you!

      Would bed liner deaden the sound as well? Just skip the Lizard skin?

    Did you use primer on the van before spraying the Lizard skin on and if so what primer did you use and why did you choose it? I was going to use Por15 but read some bad reviews and that it isn't the best if you plan on topcoating, which I plan on using Lizard Skin. TIA

      I used a 2 part primer. The actual can and type are covered in the Video I did on Ospho and Painting plans. I did little research on it and just trusted the recomendation of the paint supply shop. I did not use Por15 at all. I used Ospho for what little rust I had. I felt converting it with Ospho and primering it was better than encapsulating is with Por15. ruclips.net/video/a-8Bp0nIi_4/видео.html

    I wonder about using that tape with the hot wire in it that they us for bed liner

  • @seymoarsalvage

    A tip; immediately start peeling the tape right after the final coat of LZ.

    Looking good! do you happen to have your paint code? Is it Peacock Blue? We are about to paint our family's 74' and we want Peacock Blue but the PPG color is too green. Thanks!

    Did you paint and clear coat the paint? Or is that just top coat with no sealant?

    • @risingphoenixbronco5328
      @risingphoenixbronco5328  3 года назад +1

      I sprayed it with the same body paint the Bronco came with in 1968. It is a single stage enamel. No top coat. No sealant. Most is covered with carpet, etc. what is visible looks just a good as the day I painted. No degradation so far. ;)

    Sorry if I didn’t see it in this or your other videos, but how or what did you spray for color match on top of the lizard skin?

    • @risingphoenixbronco5328
      @risingphoenixbronco5328  5 лет назад

      I used the same gun for primer and color. Devilbiss Finish Line 4 - FLG670.

      So you’re able to just spray color directly over the top of the Lizzard Skin? Not like when they color match bed liner and mix it with the product?

    • @risingphoenixbronco5328
      @risingphoenixbronco5328  5 лет назад

      whittaker727 The Folks at Lizardskin said I could top coat directly. Just need to make sure it is fully dry and clean. See my other Lizardskin videos on drying times.

      I sprayed lizard skin on the exterior of my van. Now I have to sand the bumps off because I’m going with paint on top to look like a ordinary van

      Not without some protection maybe an undercoat. It deadens the sound and insulates but road debris will damage.

  • @monkeyearcheese420

    Did you mean 8 mils

    • @MrTheHillfolk
      @MrTheHillfolk Год назад

      Supposed to do 20mils per coat, and they say to do 2 coats.
      So 40mils for the sound deadening total, and if you're spraying the heat barrier,that's 2 coats of 20mils each.
      That would total 80mils when using both products.
      After doing the sound deadening ,my whole shop sounded different and the radio sounds better.
      It's like I dragged a big area rug into a tiled bathroom.
