@@kippys1 I dont know her, but its in the real book and in the repertoir of many jazz singers. So if this song was called on a jam session a singer would sing it more or less spontaneously, as in without preparing specifically for it. And this song in particular is not too hard melodically, especially compared to many bebop heads. Edit: she sings it very well, obviously. I just dont find it that surprising that she can sing this song spontaneously. Professional singers have hundreds of songs they can sing immediately.
@@gregorgiebel1377Well, basically you're not wrong (better clarify that first, right? 🙂). That said, I'm not sure it's relevant to see her as an usual professional singer. She is self-taught in singing and piano, starting at an early age (6 years old) and trying alone to reproduce the classical music she has listened to or heard. Then she started to compose her own melodies and then added texts. She didn't really sing in a band or in public until the year she was "discovered" (at 17, I believe), so I'm not sure she has a large repertoire of "famous songs ", (she cited Bob Dylan and Leonhard Cohen as inspirations, so I guess she knows a lot of their songs?). But since she writes her own lyrics, composes her own music (both for a long time) and co-produces her songs in the studio, she has been using her own original repertoire since the beginning of her career, with covers as well (I think she has about 15 covers, some of them having been made in the form of radio challenges, with only 1 hour between the discovery of the song and its recording). This song is part of the covers she does, so yes she knows it well and must be able to sing it in a cafe if you ask her, I guess (with a good beer, maybe?😀). All of this doesn't go against what you wrote, it's just your first and last sentences that triggered something in my brain I guess.😀 The real thing is how open and free she can be with her audience. She never takes herself too seriously, or tries to really show off or to appear the best in this or that, when she is really good when she performs live. And I'm mainly metal, on paper I shouldn't like her that much... but live, whatever genre she sings, she really has something. Something raw and genuine, I would say.
@@Josian-ps7fb Certain artists have SOMETHING that appeals to us metalheads... I'm 47 and been mostly metal for the last 35 years (unless AC/DC, Van Halen and Kiss count... if so make it about 40 years). Anyway, I know plenty of metalheads that appreciate Aurora, Beastie Boys, and Eminem... to name a few that seem to appeal to a wide audience. PJ Harvey gets a pass from me (at least for the 2 songs I know)... as does Portishead. My lovely lady listened to Jewel a lot back when she made her debut, I wasn't impressed... BUT, after watching her live set at Woodstock and another live one, she's another that I truly appreciate! Granted, most of these artists I don't make a habit of listening to, just when the mood strikes. Oh, and everything you said. I agree and I agree for the most part with Greg as well. Aurora is a natural, she was born to make music. I've also seen a little behind the scenes with her producing and how particular she is that everything is exactly how she wants it to be. Personally, I like her live stuff more than the produced.

I’ve only discovered Aurora is recent times. She’s quirky, genuine & so very likeable & she’s really got a beautiful, ethereal tone to her voice. She’s a real artist & a thoroughly lovely, DTE lady. She’s gorgeous! 💕
i got goosebumps. she was playing in my city a couple years ago but i couldn’t go, i really wish i had cancelled my plans and went to see her perform instead. she’s beautiful.
I went to 6 of her shows this year 🥺 I love her so much. Me and my ex used to listen to her songs together, I'd been holding it all in but at each of those shows I cried so much ♥️ it was sad but also nice.
This is so amazing- this song has long haunted me before I had ever heard it officially I KNEW it. I was humming it over and over ❤ i love how cute she is and her amazing rendition of this song - the reverb makes it glorious and dreamy - ethereal perfection
My two cats came walking in the room. Looking for the sound and really curious. Wow, an amazing moment. They most recognize an angels voice... I guess 🙂
I love it when Celine Dion sing this song but hearing this, feels like it comes from another world. Feels like I am in some fairy world. Marvelous. ❤❤❤
Aurora is the best. She is beautiful. Comical. Her soul is beautiful she has a beautiful voice. Amazing music. Like...what else could you ask for. I want to see her live but I am broke so ..someone pay for me lol 😆😭😆 amazing
I remember this song from my childhood in the 1950’s with Nat King Cole singing it. Aurora accepts an audience request and says,”I can do it a cappella” like it’s no big deal. An amazing voice. She seems to have a sense of humour too.👍👍🇨🇦
Not convinced in what way? Aurora is a human with things she care for. Aurora never wanted to be an artist until her mother convinced her that it can speak for and heal people. And taking that to an account, her older era did not really do anything. They were just young and generic themes compared to her new ones. In case of genras and sounds. The audience are like children asking their mother to sing a song for them. And the mother is Aurora. 🌿
personality.....xx
Yet she's very child-like and playful as well! Great entertainer!
She is All Encompassing😮 Such a special gift to us all.❤❤❤
She is so likeable, and funny, and her voice is angelical, I love her.
Tell me, how many artists sing a song asked by a person in the audience.... just like that!!
Actually a lot, lol
Maybe my taste is too good, now i think about it, maybe not too many do, but I sure know quite a few
