Great video. Thanks for the shout out. Personally I like the faster paced more artistic edits. But I know anytime I go that direction people complain. Maybe I should start another channel dedicated to non verbal shorter edits 🤔
Good morning Daniel. The more pointed nib poz tongs are my favourite and when you have perfected them I will certainly buy a pair. Keep up the great work and videos. I have seen them all.
It is interesting to see a striker at work. You make it look easy, but from trying I know it is NOT quite as easy... yet achievable with effort. I did like both the music and negative color cuts. Great idea I think, to have some hammer pick up tong blanks on the Etsy. Less experienced folks could make something decent from a good foundation. Those poz tongs look wonderful to me!
The different effects reminded me of a video game promo. I actually like to see the processes, technics, and results of metal manipulation. The soundtrack, while not really not my favorite, was at a reasonable volume to not distract from the video.
Great video, enjoyed the music, and I still think the tongs came out great. I think you are being hard on your tongs, but I also understand wanting your work to be flawless. But I think Crystal will be very happy with them! 😁⚒💪😉
Crongratulations Greg! Great video, I would like you to explain for what the tongs are made for, I guess that this wide ones are to grab things like stock for hammers, but it would be great to see them in action, grabbing things. The edition was fine, but I like more the music of a hammer striking than actual music.
The editing montage was pretty cool. Nice to mix it up once and while. I'm enjoying your exploration of the Poz tong idea. I like the original nib but liked the way you bent and upset the boss area on the second go round. Like those pincher tongs.
Enjoyed the music the tong making and the chat at the end. O the camera work was good as well. Mind you I'm no movie directer I'm just a back yard hobbyist learing from you . (:
Dan the editing was good overall and if someone dosen't like the music well they have a means to turn it down or off completely. As for myself I'm here to learn and I have learned a tremendous amount here. So the more instructive the videos are the more I like them. Just my thoughts sir.
Poz tongs are my favorite topic. I like your method of squaring up the corner. Two aspects of Poz tongs which set them apart from other tongs are that their 1- jaws have a tapered point and, 2- rectanglish boss area has a near 90 angle to the reigns. An added bonus would be "lips" on the jaws giving them the appearance that they are thicker. Lazer cut blanks? SURE! I would buy them especially if their jaws are pre-offset.
Speaking as a viewer, not an editor. I think the negative fade out is a nice touch, but used more sparingly, perhaps once or twice, not every transition. Also, consider trying to match the hammer strikes (visually) with the workshop sound down further or muted
Been following your channel for a good while. I like the new segment. The music and the switch to negative image are both really cool and different. I would time the negative flash with the last strike of the hammer and use it to transition to the next clip. Keep doing what you want. Its your channel.
My kind of music. Keep up the great work. I have a question, now this is way of topic. Is there a way you can show me how to forge an ashtray. Thank you for the awesome content.
Keep em coming. Weird transitions and funky music or not. Who am I to criticise your choices anyway? I'm now off to trawl through you back catalogue of tong making videos to brush up on the techniques so I can make my own. Was hoping I'd win a set but hey ho...winking smiley face emoji.
Hey Dan nice video mate. I liked the new edit section and music but even if I hadn't, it's your channel and you have the right to artistic development in what ever way you see fit. As long as your usual quality instruction continues you will always have plenty of subs mate. Cheers Andy 👍⚒
Not too keen on the negative or backwards transitions but the music was cool. A craftsman is always hardest on his own work. The tongs look great....when you're finally satisfied with them they will be beautiful. Enjoying the process. Thanks for sharing.
OK, so serious question. I have very little blacksmithing experience but so far the majority of what I have done has been trying to make tools. Does this continue forever? Or do I get to build some cool stuff to?
The music was fine, and the video was good for a change. Maybe not for every video, but an occasional diversion. Experimentation is always fun for spice.
I thought your little side jaunt was cool. I like that music. I like the "parrot fish" mouth on traditional Poz Tongs. This new version sorta leans toward "compact box jaws". I like that look as well.
Gotta say, I liked your first attempt at the poz tongs much better. The second round don't have the pointy poz shape that makes them so useful. They are closer to bolt tongs, but not that either as they don't have the clearance behind the jaw. I do think the offset tooling is a good addition and helps make the jaw alignment a lot cleaner. I think the pickup tongs came out great though. It would be interesting to try to create a pair of poz tongs with an adjustable joint like a pair of slip-joint pliers. That would take the small, light advantages of the poz tongs and make them work for multiple stock sizes.
I don't mind the artsy editing at all, there's a lot of it on Alec Steele's channel. But true to how your videos are more instructive I would like some text describing the process you are doing, rather than just a slo-mo beauty shot. (e.g. "5. Upsetting to form a corner")
I think your editing, and your timing with the music is good. Doesn’t feel off. What gets me is the filter effects. Both the lines and the filling to the negative. It doesn’t add to the video, and honestly the negative is jarring. I have actually made a preform poz tong blank, and it works quite well.
Thank you a lot have said about the filter. Just having a play nit really sure what the hell I'm doing hehe. Yeah the poz Tongs will be back but as a profile I believe much easier.
Mate, certainly am impressed with all of your tongs. The Last set however, may have problems with the reins closing like scissors. Could pinch your hands. I think I would prefer the reins closing onto themselves, not closing by their sides. I admire your striving for better articles. Thank you very much. I'm playing with an idea and to be honest I really like it. It's based off if the Brian Brazeal style of tong. However your quality right it's a bit of a finger pincher!

Love the tongs even if you not happy with them but I guess your standards lift with your experience. Thankyou for your chanel and your great videos.
I tried to make a pair of poz tong. Done it wrong but got a reasonable pair of tongs. My jaws I placed half in the vice hot and upset along the jaw making the top fatter, then split them. Made the vee sides a bit thicker which was what I wanted.😊
Constructive criticism re the video edit. • I wasn’t a fan of the transition where the image was in negative. • The music. Even though it wasn’t my cup of tea, it was at a volume where it just sat in the background and wasn’t obnoxious like some videos I’ve seen.
Congratulations Greg!👏👏👏 You know you can send me all your crap I'll throw it away for you 😜.I Love and need some mustache tongs.... What was the name again? Dan is it...?
Is it constructive criticism if you do not criticize? For what it is worth I liked it! The music/ shop noise balance could do with tweaking but the idea is great. The music fit with the "industrial" feel. The use of fade could be a good idea ...... especially for unusual images. The negative is a good idea to show things that are not easily seen on "normal" shots, but takes some getting used to! All in all, a good effort ..... A good job, well done!
My favourite of all your videos Dan.....for a pair of obvious reasons :-) ....’very happy to be the winner of those tongs! I still don’t quite get which part of the second pair of Poz tongs you’re not happy with so I’ll look forward to seeing what you come up with when you are happy with them. The video editing was a nice change and the background music was a good touch, though I must admit that it was a bit of a distraction from trying to follow the work and I ended up having to watch that section again. What’s the go with the drift going in sideways at 8.46? The wobbly camera movement as you moved around the tongs at the end was a little annoying/hard on the eyes, maybe you should shout yourself one of those gimbal/anti-shake mounts.
When putting music to videos i generally try to select music that i don't hate as opposed to my own personal taste, in the hope it will appeal to a wider Audience, in saying that the music in this video wasn't bad
I made tongs like the last one you made. A pincher. The wife said they work perfect for replacing her spool on her weed eater. She told me if I needed one I could make another one.
I think I have same thoughts as most with the edited video, the negative and lines effect was a bit jarring, I liked the music alongside it but if you picked a piece with definitive end you would be able to time it easier with the verses of the music and time the end to finish with the song. Not for everyone but also if you run high speed footage to music you can "fill the areas of song you wish by adjusting the play speed to fit the gaps you create. Nice work 👍
The solarized effect either needs to be longer providing it shows details you can't see in regular color, but the quick transition in and brevity of it feels disjointed. Just my thoughts. Still an enjoyable video. I enjoy all your tong videos anyway so I'm biased in your favor.
For future videos could you get Spielberg to direct and possibly Lloyd Webber for music and maybe Tom Hardy to play you now that would bump up the subscriptions until that happens you have a loyal subs base that watch for your content keep it going hope to see a collaborative video one day with Joshua not jus a foodie 😊
😖 oh I know - it’s sometimes harder than it looks, right? I’m going from commercial photog/designer to blacksmithing and fabrication. Shaking the rust off my welding chops and gearing up. We should exchange brains for a couple weeks. 😎 I think you did pretty well. Keep at it and try to think of the finished product you’re looking for as you shoot the content. Keeps the footage from getting out of hand somewhat.
@@danielmoss2089 you mentioned laser cutting as part of the tong manufacture I was not aware of this being available outside large foundries and only for thin metal. Aware of plasma and water jet cutting so was interested in what you meant
@@sibat777 I have a couple of local companies that offer a lazer cutting service. Aluminium, copper, steel, stainless and more. It's amazing what they can do. The company near me can up upto 40mm think with there lazer. Pretty cool.
@@danielmoss2089 thanks Dan would be great if they let you take a camera, I watched Fireball Tool cutting out his blacksmith vice components with a water jet that was pretty amazing. Did you see that build?
Firstly, another great video. I think your Poz tongs have something good going for them but the second pair is moving away from the Poz tong profile and heading towards a pair of bolt jaws - the ends are square instead of tapered down almost to a point and the bit between the nibs and boss is defenitly getting bigger. I will say that I do like them, but not sure they fit the name any more. Your music video section is interesting. The problem is that you're following in the footsteps of Alec Steele and Jamie a bit. If you want to go that style you need to play with slowing down and speeding up the video's so that the beat hits on the hammer blow. With songs with a slightly more complex beat that can prove tricky. Also, you're probably going to need help with editing the video's. If you are making AND editing the videos to that extent you will burn yourself out big time. The beauty of Alec and Jamie's setup is that there's one person to each job, they aren't constantly burning the candle at both ends and a few places in the middle so they have more time to get it spot on. I did enjoy the music video bit, but I would have enjoyed it if it was a bit longer and a little cleaner. It's still an AWESOME first go and let's face it, blacksmiths very rarely get a bran new project perfect first time.... well, most of us don't get it right first time and I'm talking about the whole human race!! I really like that you're always pushing for the next level with everything. Keep up the good work 👍
Tongs look great. I just wish you took a few seconds to demonstrate there use. Grabbing and holding rather than just sitting on the anvil. Other than that great video.
Creative feedback: I liked it,however, rough and ready is just as good for me. So long as you show real blacksmithing and not sell out to, all demascus knives, ill be a sub. I stopped watching Alec when it went all knives. His channel blew up but it was no longer blacksmithing but cinema.
I liked the edit. The negative could've lasted a half to a full second longer. The music was a comfortable level and didn't overpower what was being seen. Overall, nice change of pace. On the jaws of the Poz, I'm not sure how deep you're cutting in with the cutoff wheel. I've always hot chiseled in the cut. Possibly you're removing too much material and that's why they are coming out a bit thin?? Just spit balling.
The music is absolute garbage. U going to rotte your brain. U must have already done it because those tongs are awesome they look great. Your skills are way above average. I would be proud to have and use them.
Stick to your normal style of video making please. You are a wonderful instructor, however fancy reveal shots do 0 for education and also dont provide much thrill. Really just makes me anxious and wanna skip ahead which i skip too far then end up accidently backing out of video ect.

The Tongs I made for myself will be used in other videos. Ie the pickup Tongs. However its a fair point which I will bare in mid. Thank you
Creative feedback: I liked it,however, rough and ready is just as good for me. So long as you show real blacksmithing and not sell out to, all demascus knives, ill be a sub. I stopped watching Alec when it went all knives. His channel blew up but it was no longer blacksmithing but cinema.
I very much doubt I'll sell out like that lol. I might make crazy thing and do the odd Damascus or knife but I won't do an alec. Promise.
