this is a bit late but, on a slightly depressing note, sound doesn't travel in space, so dj sub sup is hopeless in his crazed quest not to be forgotten. also wouldn't a subatomic supernova not generate a black hole, because only large stars that go supernova tend to do that, while his supernova is "subatomic?"

It’s not just about fighting against EDM; it’s fighting for the cause of fairness.
Zuke and Mayday felt they were being discriminated against for trying to bring back rock, and were set to show Tatiana and the NSR that she was wrong to not treat them equally.
I swear, this soundtrack, every last track, is just phenomenal. This piece especially gives me goosebumps when I hear it. It is just too good to describe.

People show their true colors in art. It's hard to hate someone who made music this resonate and this relatable.
You have to reflect when you made something. When you made music, you have to put the soul into it, and that gives the quality of DJ SS. In comparison to Eve, DJ SS feels more passionate than selfish because he always talks about his music more often than his personal issues. His ego was a mask for his unsatisfied curiosity, an unquenchable thirst for new frontier. It feels more about passion and less of himself when he puts music as a forefront argument than his own issues.
Passion is intoxicating, but ego is when you claim something your ghostwriters made.
The end of NSR? Maybe. The end of funk fiction's music? Highly unlikely.

People say DJ SS is too egotistical, but I really like him as a character, because there is depth and nuance beyond "haha, I am best". His arrogance in his own intellect is born not out of a superiority complex, but a dark nihilistic world view. Everything he does is to try and make some kind of lasting impact in the universe. To be heard and remembered. He struggles to achieve this one thing, even knowing that in the scale of the universe and cosmos, he wouldn't be noticable. He believes himself smarter because he's the only one he's met who understands that come a few generations, everything we know will be forgotten. He desperately wants to make an impact on a reality that will inevitably forget him, and no one else seems to be worried about this. Even his name reflects this. DJ Subatomic Supernova. He sees in himself the power of a supernova, but realizes that if he were put to scale, at most he would be subatomic in size, not even noticable to the naked eye.
TL;DR, I think DJ SS is depressed, and needs therapy.
Now that you say it, basically all the bosses suffer from some form of psychological condition.
The four kids who created Sayu? Basicaly socially awkward kids, teen-angst.
DK West? Massive inferiority complex, with narcistic tendencies.
Yinu? Grief, traumatized by her fathers death and trying to compensate by followong his footsteps in order to feel closer to him.
1010? A symbol for how korean idol bands are crafted and sucked dry, with little regard for the people.
Eve? Probably Borderline. I know, her design hints at shizophrenia, but her behavior is pretty much textbook-borderline.
Tatiana is the onlyone seemingly sane, but even she has OCD-Tendencies.

Th ending is what saves it, but I was like "Do I really gotta beat these people up, I kinda like them..."

You felt more justified slapping his self-centered ego, before you started beating up children, children, veterans, exes, and disillusioned megastars. And then you realize that maybe your cause wasn't really as righteous as you thought it was.
One line that stuck out in my head in the final battle is that Mayday outright yells about nobody in NSR having talent...
...after telling Sayu's team that they're really talented, being impressed with Yinu's piano skills, being woo'd by 1010, and witnessing Eve's reality-bending.

In game, all parts of the theme can change depending on how well the player fights. If the player fights well, the theme changes to a rock version. This is just the base EDM version.

I love how each Artist represents a branch of EDM and Dj Subatomic is clearly House EDM.
Without House music, EDM today wouldn't be like we know it, so it's ironic how Subatomic is seen not only as an unreachable star, requiring a VIP pass to meet, but also as out of this world, both with the name and aesthethic. Almost not human.
Just like how Daft Punk did back then, seems like DJ subatomic skyrocketed EDM.
4:45 sold me on the game back during video previews for the game. Still a soul snatcher. The whole track honestly.
I think what's more impressive then just this great tune here, is that as you perform well against the boss, the beats and melodies get switched out for rock versions of themselves.

Even for someone born in 85, this is easily one of the best tracks that ever graced a video game. It's immersive & inspired, while subtly carrying the traits that most of the best VGM carries, all in one juicy EDM format. Besides the obvious Daft Punk esque sound, I also detect some inspirations from artists like David Wise (DKC), Yasonouri Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger) , and whoever composed Meteor Herd from SA2 (Hunnid-P?). I could be wrong on either of those, but I'm sure that this is a real masterpiece.
Space Trip steps (meteor herd's theme) was composed by Tomoya Ohtani.
Putting funk fiction on this games soundtrack was the best decision they could've possibly made.

Just noticed that the name DJ Subatomic Supernova reflects his nihilistic viewpoint that everyone around him, including himself are specs of dust in the sands of time, and he wants to do something so amazing even if it isn't recognized across history, or is even forgotten. A Supernova on a subatomic level if you will.
The other heroes and villains all have connections to other human beings of some sort... DJ suffers the cosmic horror of realizing how finite and transient life and memory are... He's become fixated to leave something, anything behind that he'll won't be forgotten and be honored for.
