People say DJ SS is too egotistical, but I really like him as a character, because there is depth and nuance beyond "haha, I am best". His arrogance in his own intellect is born not out of a superiority complex, but a dark nihilistic world view. Everything he does is to try and make some kind of lasting impact in the universe. To be heard and remembered. He struggles to achieve this one thing, even knowing that in the scale of the universe and cosmos, he wouldn't be noticable. He believes himself smarter because he's the only one he's met who understands that come a few generations, everything we know will be forgotten. He desperately wants to make an impact on a reality that will inevitably forget him, and no one else seems to be worried about this. Even his name reflects this. DJ Subatomic Supernova. He sees in himself the power of a supernova, but realizes that if he were put to scale, at most he would be subatomic in size, not even noticable to the naked eye. TL;DR, I think DJ SS is depressed, and needs therapy.

I love how the first boss just hurls planets at you. Like "Hi thanks for playing our game, this is an egotistical DJ with a black hole head and he's about to throw Saturn at you."
I love how each Artist represents a branch of EDM and Dj Subatomic is clearly House EDM. Without House music, EDM today wouldn't be like we know it, so it's ironic how Subatomic is seen not only as an unreachable star, requiring a VIP pass to meet, but also as out of this world, both with the name and aesthethic. Almost not human. Just like how Daft Punk did back then, seems like DJ subatomic skyrocketed EDM.
Even for someone born in 85, this is easily one of the best tracks that ever graced a video game. It's immersive & inspired, while subtly carrying the traits that most of the best VGM carries, all in one juicy EDM format. Besides the obvious Daft Punk esque sound, I also detect some inspirations from artists like David Wise (DKC), Yasonouri Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger) , and whoever composed Meteor Herd from SA2 (Hunnid-P?). I could be wrong on either of those, but I'm sure that this is a real masterpiece.
This game is a social critic to overinflated Ego DJ’s, Vocaloid, BTS Boy Bands, Egotistic “I was born in the wrong generation” people, Divas and Idols ala Kimkardashians, and corrupted governments. Yep, definitely a 2020 game I love it
Eve: Finding herself through art as a whole. 1010: Reliving his war days through a boyband. Yinu: Plays to bond with her mother and honor her father. Sayu: A collaboration, turned passion project, turned global sensation. DJ Subsup: "Everybody's an idiot accept for me."
The game's been out for a while and I've been listening to the tracks from it ever since, but I've never come here and paid my respects. This is my favorite song from NSR. I believe that you've made something wonderful. I've listened to this more times than I can count and will, most likely, keep coming back to it for my whole life. Thank you.
I still can’t get over how hard this song goes. It’s so easy to relisten to and sounds amazing in every version. Easily my favorite boss theme. That intro especially is just really really good like wow
I can't immediately think of anything similar to this track - it's sick. If I had to go with something, this is like a sped up combo of Metro Madness Act 1 and Lunar Base Stage 10.

I first heard this song when I started college, now I'm graduating soon. Before my English final I was listening to music on the bus and this song came on. Idk it just gave me a lot of motivation and took me back. Can't believe its been almost 3 years since this game came out.

It’s just so funny that a guy with the ego the size of the entire universe chose a name that basically means “really small galactic explosion”. You heard me right, that’s what subatomic supernova means.
Just noticed that the name DJ Subatomic Supernova reflects his nihilistic viewpoint that everyone around him, including himself are specs of dust in the sands of time, and he wants to do something so amazing even if it isn't recognized across history, or is even forgotten. A Supernova on a subatomic level if you will.

The "Funk Fiction" name has never been so accurate.
I love how preparing for boss fights is just listening to the soundtrack.
It's one of the most fun ways ever!
The one boss that doesn't directly fight you because he's convinced his music alone is more than enough
I researched DJ subatomic supernova voice actor and his voice actor IS AMAZING LOOKHIM UP!!
Who is he?
@Ernst Schmidt thanks
Honestly when I first heard him he sounded like internet historian lmfao
Sany that’s what they were going for, glad to know they succeeded.
Yep this is a epic party
Thanks for 1 million plays everyone! We did it! 🙏🔵🎧✨
Here's to hoping the game wins something at TGA. The game is as much of a gem as the soundtrack!
After listening to this, I would eat a whole box of Mr.Dodo ice pops

Even if it's all melted tho?
VGF80 Someone would fetch me some fresh Mr.Dodo ice pops
are you gonna eat just the ice pops or the whole box in one go?
@@arianneangelieballug2628 depends how yummy IT Looks, with some strawberries and sugar/erythrit, then with The package
Such a silly little game. . . .
I WANT IT
It's so dam great
Okay hol up bruh. Why are you doing this to my ears? I've never felt such musical pleasure
I mean this Feeling also comes, when you're fighting against Sayu (DEFINITELY) and Eve (For all WHO Like her past-Version)......
I read that with DJ SS' voice.
I need help staying away from the soundtrack until release.
For real. Why is every song such a banger. Lmao
This it's just impossible
Sorry you're on your own mate 😆
They got it on iTunes
Impossible, Impossible, IMPOSSIBLE
So this is a game where the main villain is the Sonic ATS soundtrack? Sign me up!
Groove - the greatest of Goliaths - and funk, your fiercest fiend.
Just wondering, what does the ATS part in the Sonic title mean?
@@louised2818 Curious myself, I did a quick google search, and unless I'm mistaken, it means "After The Sequel". By the looks of it, it's a well put together fan game taking place between Sonic 2 and 3!
@@davisprater4731 you're correct, and it's worth playing! and needless to say, it's soundtrack is as amazing as this song!
DJ Subatomic Supernova is only the first boss
I think what's more impressive then just this great tune here, is that as you perform well against the boss, the beats and melodies get switched out for rock versions of themselves.
Really impressive work you all did here.
Good stuff as usual
That's actually another remix done by Andy Tunstall, which will be included in the full OST!
I love how DJ SS is just like "Fuck you guys, fuck NSR, my music *SLAPS.*
IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!
I mean, it _is_ , but...
Hugh, can someone fetch me some fresh Mr. Dodo Ice Pop ? This one is all melted !
@@NIHIL_EGO SIMPLETON
@@Arxiuz2 Your intellect is strikingly shallow, as everyone else's is.
@@NIHIL_EGO My music will ripple to the rims of the universe and back.
great. what else should probably go wrong today?
4:45 sold me on the game back during video previews for the game. Still a soul snatcher. The whole track honestly.
I love how the first boss just hurls planets at you.
Like
"Hi thanks for playing our game, this is an egotistical DJ with a black hole head and he's about to throw Saturn at you."
DJ Subatomic Supernova definitely passed the vibe check. The amount of vibes from this song is palpable.
Your discography is a 10/10
Pun intended
1010 mentioned
" For my music will ripple to the rims of the universe and back "
Even for someone born in 85, this is easily one of the best tracks that ever graced a video game.
Space Trip steps (meteor herd's theme) was composed by Tomoya Ohtani.
Da funk is real with this theme, you killed it with the sonic ats soundtrack and now you’re out here killing it for no straight roads
You crazy son of the god. You did it again!
This game is a social critic to overinflated Ego DJ’s, Vocaloid, BTS Boy Bands, Egotistic “I was born in the wrong generation” people, Divas and Idols ala Kimkardashians, and corrupted governments.
Yep, definitely a 2020 game
I love it
this was copypasta from the 1010 one isn't it?
@@ThatFedoraGuyyy ye
Isn't Vocaloid lowkey dying tho? 😂😂😂 at first, I thought Sayu was a homage to Vtubers ( specifically Hololive ) but Vocaloid does suit her more.
Philip Miguel Polves
Well it was my own comment so yeah
Its actually vtube not vocaloid vtube is a group of people that controls the virtual character while vocaloid isnt live but prerecorded

Checkmate, simpleton.
I could legit listen to this man's voice for forever.
3:19 Shh....I'm charging my laser.
I love how 4th phase is literally you fighting him in a singularity/black hole while this master piece is blasting in your ears 4:38
He just wanted to vibe, and let the entire universe vibe with him
Putting funk fiction on this games soundtrack was the best decision they could've possibly made.
I can't immediately think of anything similar to this track - it's sick. If I had to go with something, this is like a sped up combo of Metro Madness Act 1 and Lunar Base Stage 10.
Seriously, you could've gone wild on Sonic Mania's soundtrack.
@@DrSwazz Hahaha Your right
Try Titanic Tower Act 1 and Wolf Rayet, both songs have parts that sound almost the same as this song.
@@leevkop8229 I can definitely see Wolf Rayet.
Sped up............U genius!!! Imma play it in x2 speed!
Edit: I am glad sound doesn't travel in space. That legit sounded awful.
I kid you not, I just discovered this game through boss fight showcases and as soon as I heard this my only two thoughts were "this sounds like Funk Fiction" and "Ok, this HAS to be Funk"
My jaw dropped when I was right
Outstanding work dude, I've been following your work through Freperd's games and it's good to see your talents in other titles too!
I first heard this song when I started college, now I'm graduating soon. Before my English final I was listening to music on the bus and this song came on. Idk it just gave me a lot of motivation and took me back. Can't believe its been almost 3 years since this game came out.
what if you
wanted to go to heaven
but DJ Subtonic Supernova said:
"My music will reach the Furthest Corners of the galaxy.. what have YOU done today?.. Simpletons!"
I can’t stop playing this song in my head
Soundtrack is straight flames my god
So Funky! Makes me wanna dance to it!
5:14 this is the part that I LOVE
OMG I didn't know you worked on this game, HYPE I AM GETTING THIS GAME
this track is absolutely bonkers, holy crap that intro
Absolute banger. Had heard this back when it was uploaded on the NSR channel and I still love it just as much! Really can't wait to hear what else you made for this game.
3:22 hands down THE drop
I get goosebumps out of pure extacy on 4:45
Same, honestly.
I don't care if I am writing this 6 months later, SAME

DJ subsup is my favorite boss in this game he probably is my favorite overall even if his story isn't emotionalnor tragic I just really like him and his ego makes him somehow really charismatic and fun
I’m feeling the funk, more than ever before! Keep it up FF!
An 8D audio version of this would be stellar omg

Also, Hell yeah, I'm playing this at a dance party.
NGL they did an amazing job having your track be the first boss

This song literally lives up and straight up defines Funk Fiction's name
*"Funk so great it comes from Fiction."*
It’s just so funny that a guy with the ego the size of the entire universe chose a name that basically means “really small galactic explosion”. You heard me right, that’s what subatomic supernova means.
Gotta love the Funk Fiction lick at 0:45! Still just as awesome as when I first heard it in Sonic BTS!
Out of the mini soundtrack this is by far my favorite! I can't wait to play the game and listen to the whole entire soundtrack!!!
This is the result of years of hard work. I hope you grow in popularity, you really deserve it. You did a great job there, Funk Fiction.
The other heroes and villains all have connections to other human beings of some sort... DJ suffers the cosmic horror of realizing how finite and transient life and memory are... He's become fixated to leave something, anything behind that he'll won't be forgotten and be honored for.
i love this song
A mix of deep disco and synthwave? Yeah, that's my jam! Get that DJ up, man!
NSR OST are legit amazing
And also DJ ssn boss fight theme is literally future jazz or something
I’ve been a fan of your work for years now I’m glad other people are starting to notice too
OH? This sounds so good!! I'm absolutely pumped for the games official release! Absolutely love the disco funk motif this guy has... DJ Subatomic Supernova!
