  • The new Lion King movie called “Mufasa” is coming out in December. I saw the trailer, and it filled me with so much discontent that I made this video. Enjoy!

I miss those fairytale movies. It feels like nowadays they are super focused on realism as an art style to an unhealthy degree.
I would love to see more fairytale adaptations with lesser known fairytales. ❤️. I really like your video! :D.

I agree. Stories like Aida and Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters would look amazing animated. I miss the hand drawn style.

The thing about a world of only "safe bets" (continuations or adaptations of what they already had) is that they are not actually safe. They take something that already succeeded and then risk tarnishing it. Nobody doing this can keep a perfect score so it is a surefire way to decay over time or fund their own gradual downfall. Even before they get anywhere near financial ruin there will come a point where their name and reputation is deemed worthless. Problem is that people responsible for this path are probably gonna jump ship or deem this a side hustle to invest in things short term and just care about their immediate gain without any care.

This is a very good observation regarding the current path that major studios are on. Thanks for sharing!

Walt always said, “Keep moving forward.” Unfortunately Iger is sending it backwards. 🥺 Disney has truly lost its magic since Iger took over.

@@thed3projectyou know what Disney should’ve done right after Disney moved on to the next life is doing a massive overhaul and rebranding of the entire company that includes the renaming of Walt Disney studios and Disney animation studios to Buena Vista Studios and steamboat studios respectively and also expanding into more adult entertainment and foreign media!

@@thed3project it would probably result in Disney’s first r-rated movies being an adaptation of a Robert E. Howard short story and a modernized loose adaptation of the epic of Gilgamesh that is in a somewhat similar vein to Oh brother, where art thou.

6:28 I do have a minor issue of making Areil black but please hear me out because It's not what you think. See I'm one of those people that thinks "too much" about movie things, and my issue is...why would an underwater creature need to have a skin pigmentation that protects them from the sun? Putting aside the fact she is a mermaid, doesn't see live on the ocean floor, not a lot of sun raises reach down there.

    • @tadakuniyasuda8214
      @tadakuniyasuda8214 Месяц назад +3

That is a good point. Maybe some mermaids do swim near the surface, so they need protections(?)

I think this train of thought isn't "too much" at all! To be honest, I think this could lead to some really interesting creative explorations. Like, what if there was an adaptation of The Little Mermaid where Ariel is more of a humanoid deep sea creature? Perhaps it could be something like the Guillermo Del Toro Pinocchio!?
All of this to say, I think thoughts like this can lead to more creative approaches to things... plus, you aren't even complaining about the political aspect of it haha. Essentially, thanks for sharing!

The live action Lion King felt sooo unnecessary. What is the point of remaking an animated classic when they’re just going to animate it in CGI. Not only that but because they’re real animals now, it removes their emotional and facial characteristics that only the animated movie could capture. When Live Action Simba saw the horde of Wilderbeest, there was barely any emotion compared to the cartoon counterpart.
Overall this was a great video and I honestly believe you deserve more subscribers!

As I said in my video, “those are just lions.” lol
There is so much cool technology they developed for Lion King 2019, I just wish they used it for a more meaningful project…
And thanks for the kind words!!

glad to stumble upon more videos that break down the core issue . it always struck me as strange that there was a point many years ago when disney could adapt live action films and they werent necessarily great but they were unique enough to stand as something people could tell wasnt trying to mimic. one of the few times ive seen it work out was the 1996 adaption of 101 Dalmatians . fact weirdly enough up until the more modern version of the live action remake the whole franchise consistently felt like it was trying to put effort in.
i was pretty upset to find that instead of playing with the 2020s version of the Dalmatian reboot (101 street ) for the cruella movie that they instead decided to take the direction they did. there was protentional in that new movie sure but they missed the mark so much and disney itself seemingly did everything in its power to push the reboot out of public view.
what hurts even more is knowing that every time they try to adapt a story now they supress the value of the original film and the milestones each created for the industry.
i remember hearing about the anniversary remake of Pinocchio and before seeing it finding myself engaged with the idea that this piece of media which was and still is a technical marvel could actually be done interestingly in live action. but only if the directors realized the value of holding the things that needed to be animated to the same level of respect.
for a while there was rumours that the puppet would actually be handmade and employ a mix of classic puppet techniques and animatronics . fact i even briefly heard they were consisting employing Jim Henson's Creature Workshop work with the imagineers .
and to me that made sense . disney as a company pioneered and revolutionized the audio animatronic industry . why not remind the public that they can do something like this on their live action sets for something that isnt a super hero film ?
imagine for a minute if they adapted and adjusted the story in such a way that everything looked suspiciously live action except Pinocchio up until we get to the circus tent . imagine if honest john was in that very hyper realistic style we see in lion king and moved like a regular fox only changing to be more human-esk in stance when alone with Pinocchio . but what i really would have loved is if the whale scene was the only time everything changed to something like a mix of 2d and stop motion .
like if theyre gonna celebrate a milestone movie that have the passion and guts to make it a love letter to animation as a whole instead of the awful remake we ended up with.
it was in production during the SFX strike so the look of the film itself isnt entirely the fault of the production direction. but the fact it was allowed to release in that state and with the awful script adjustments is tragic in of itself.
