- I sat down with one of the nicest and most passionate people on earth, Matt Mercer. Matt is a very talented actor and voice actor doing voices such as McCree from Overwatch, Levi Ackerman in Attack On Titan and Leon Kennedy in Resident Evil to name a few. He is also the Dungeon Master for the extremely successful and popular D&D group Critical Role. He's also just a super nice guy and I enjoy chatting with him

It brings me so much unexpected happiness hearing him say "my wife" now instead of just Marisha or "my girlfriend". He says it as much as he acceptably can, in interviews, on the shows, all of it and you can tell he's genuinely so stoked to be married to her everyday and it's so pure

Jack is a real natural interviewer. This seems really genuine and cool. he should definitely make this a once a month episode thing. "Jabbering With Jack" is a cute name for it
It's not really an interview, if you ask me. It's more of a conversation between a couple of entertainers about life, the universe, and everything.

I couldn't disagree with Matt Mercer more, he was my favorite voice actor even before Critical Role was even a thing. I noticed after a while that a lot of my favorite characters sounded similar. Turns out they were LITERALLY all Matt Mercer.
Same dude, I had this feeling of "Oh my god all these people are Matt Mercer" and than I learned about his whole deal with Critical Role
Ngl I watched all the Blizzard shorts before I ever watched Critical Role and McCree was definitely my favorite. Might have been the apple pie lol
Im on the opposite end of the spectrum. Same with Travis voice. Im not the kind of person to look up actors, voice actors etc. But after watching crit role and then going back or playing new games I can immediately point them out now, even if its a far stretch from their normal voice. I was watching attack on titan at one point and it hadnt clicked until about 8 eps in that Matt is levi.
Matt is one of the rare ones that can do so many unique voices that he wears them like others wear hats.
While the rest are skilled AF he is something else. Watching him be 3 npc’s talking to eachother is amazing

Yes. PLEASE. If he can just get the chance to hang with them all for a few hours before show, not come flight-to-set. Just, have talked a bit.
I think that's been a big thing with *all* guests, imo, that the ones who know the group make for better guests (I think from the guests' perspective, too - it's pretty dang hard to just be in someone's game suddenly and not feel like you're intruding).
I worry Jack might, if not comfortable, either really tone it down and take a step back to where he might even come off as shy (as he's said people soemtimes tell him irl after only having seen his videos) and not play much;
or he might, on the other side of the scale, come off as taking up too much space - to the annoyance of Critters who don't know or like him.
Which would be sad, because I think he could have some great chemistry with the cast and that it could be a top-notch episode everyone could enjoy! :3

I think Jack's too hard on himself about voice acting. One of my favorite videos of his, that I go back and watch every so often, is the end of Night in the Woods, when Mae has this little monologue. It's a cold read, Jack's never seen that dialogue before, but he puts so much heart into it and he knows Mae so well from doing her voice throughout the game, that I cry every time I watch. I don't think that game would've made such an impact on me without his voices, and I always read the dialogue in my head with the voices he chose.

I'd love to see Jack as a potential CR guest -- but AFAIK he's never explicitly talked about this kind of thing aside from a tangential interest in DnD?
Regardless, Sumalee Montano was my favorite CR guest of all time and her DnD experience was very limited prior to being on the show. CR knows what they're doing. I'm down with the hype!

Sumalee's experience was not limited. She never even played before her guest appearance and only heard about the game from Matt and other voice actors who play.
Matt talked about this in his Q&A that he did in Stockholm Comic Con.

The fact that Matt rememberers his role as Kiritsugu Emiya just shows how well done the character was as a whole. A character that you acted and just teaches you about yourself is a great character. And Fate/Zero is great btw go watch it
Wait- WHAT?! HE PLAYED KIRITSUGU!? Well dang! And to think I’ve watched Fate Zero like, 3 times already. Iskandar, Kiritsugu, and the master of Berserker (his name is slipping my mind atm) are easily my top 3 characters of that show. So now knowing Mr. Mercer voices one of them is definitely more appreciation for the dubbing he did. I’ll have to see what else he dubbed that I enjoy, and which ones he’s in that I havent seen yet.

Matthew Mercer is just such an amazing voice actor, and seems like a really laid back and chill person. It just amazes me how much you can do with your voice, and just how talented these voice actors are. I have such a huge amount of respect for voice actors and all the hard work they pour into their projects.
Yeah, I don't think people realize voice actors are still actors. This is why some screen actors can be serviceable voice actors, too.
Although being a VA is more of a limitation because you can ONLY use your voice to alter your character. The really, really good ones stand out among the rest because they make the characters come alive more than any other facet of the character.

Man, I recently dicovered Critical Role during one of the rougher times in my life; just like Sean they all seem to be so genuinely nice, talented and open people and have made me laugh so many times just during the 20+ episodes I've watched! At this point in my life I can handle my hardships and am already starting to feel better but having something to lighten your mood or take your mind of things is really helpful. This video coincided nicely with regards to this and I look forward to all the hundreds of episodes I've got ahead of me!
Also, I feel Sean is really improving at this kind of format and getting more and more comfortable with every interview and it's always great to see!

I was in the same boat you're in around this time last year. Found their show, felt weird at first watching it but found it was cause hiding what I loved from myself(acting, roleplay, theater).

I’m glad Matt made time for this interview in between recording lines for one piece English dub of punk hazard and his busy life of other recordings, video games, and such, his voice is really like honey and I love him as a voice actor. Jack is slowly becoming a journalist and this is something I didn’t know I wanted until now.
I’ve never wanted to hug someone and tell them they’re doing a great job more than when Matt Mercer looks sad for even a moment.
