5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe hammers through Dorridge at full speed! | Shakespeare Express | 7/4/24

- Today's video is of the first Shakespeare Express of 2024, hauled by GWR Castle Class 4-6-0 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe! The Shakespeare Express is two round trips from Birmingham Snow Hill to Stratford, tender first outward via Henley and smokebox first along the Chiltern Mainline via Dorridge and Solihull back to Birmingham. This weekend however both the outward and return runs were via the Chiltern Mainline due to engineering works near Whitlocks End on the North Warwicks Line. The Shakespeare Express usually operates on Sundays over the summer only, however Vintage trains have recently started running one-off services at other times of the year to coincide with public holidays!
With a bit of uncertainty surrounding which locomotive would be operating today, I set off first to Dorridge Station for the first run. Expecting a flyer, it was sadly not to be as the signallers didn't close the crossing at Bentley Heath until 5043 had passed a signal at double yellow. With the crew expecting a single yellow aspect just behind me, the brakes had been firmly applied and by the time she got to me she only opened up close to the camera. After this, I met @harnettyrailways and we had a chat whilst waiting for 5043's second return. For this we went to Bentley Heath Crossing, where she absolutely flew through 9 minutes early in the high sixties, in a performance that more than made up for earlier.

I have the Shakespeare Express Train Set, Bachmann Style, in 00 gauge model form. The engine included isn't Earl of Mount Edgcumbe, but Rood Ashton Hall with a Manor-sized tender. Top that if you can.
I’ll top that. I brought that exact set just for the bus. I Put the hall and the carriages in the bin. It would be better if the bus was dcc sound fitted so I could hear the kickdown when I’m pushing it along the dining table but luckily I have my bus channel that I can play for background sounds.
@@JayStimbo-nf6qp Excuse me, Mister, Rood Ashton Hall is a new favourite steamy of mine. I'm not throwing her or the carriages away, thankyou very much. I love her and she's part of my model engine collection. I'm a fan of God's Wonderful Railway, and it's never going to change.

@@JayStimbo-nf6qp Beg your pardon, I misread. But why throw away an engine as beautiful as Rood Ashton Hall, who is preserved in real life? Rood Ashton Hall is the best part in my book, she's music to my ears. I've seen videos of her on other channels. Have you no love in your heart for Great Western steam engines?
@@kellyashfordtrains2642 I like trains but I just love buses. I love the sound when the gearbox changes on a voith gearbox. I like the GWR. Especially IETs
The whistle look like I watched Earl running on the mainline in 2013 and 2014

I'm not sure the two tours are linked operationally, but the team at Tyseley have most definitely been preparing for Z48. We all really look forward to it! Regards, Dan
