Eric Slick - Talking About Mental Health

boxofstars.org Box of Stars is a 501c 3 non profit organization that raises mental health awareness through music to reduce stigma, promote recovery and save lives.
Our friend Eric Slick, is drummer for the band Dr. Dog and a member of The Adrian Belew Power trio. Having struggled with anxiety and attention deficit disorder in his own life, he volunteered to share his story with us to encourage others to speak out about their issues and to help us in our quest to alleviate the stigma surrounding mental illness.
We all need to be part of creating this new conversation about mental health, so please pass this message along.
• We all have mental health. When we have "good" mental health we are more able to cope with stress, are more productive, and feel good about ourselves. When we are in "poor" mental health, it is more difficult to cope, to achieve, and to feel happy and satisfied.
• Mental illness is not shameful. It is not a sign of personal weakness.
• Its okay to talk about how you are feeling.
• Its okay to get help.
• If you think a friend or family member is struggling with their mental health it is okay to talk to them about it. Ask them how they are doing. Reach out to those around you with compassion, empathy and understanding and never be afraid to offer your support.
