VERY good video guys. Funny thing about Black Cherry; I've cut down trees that were so badly rotted that there wasn't even firewood in the tree. Here you have a fantastic log that's been down for 3 (?) years and almost 100% perfect lumber. Dave
Thanks Dave! Black Cherry seems to go either way for us...I have some cut from the same time that I can stick a finger through the sapwood and others like this one that stay solid. I don't know if it is due to the particular tree or how it was stored, This one was on the bottom of the pile but on cross pieces so it was off the ground.
Thanks! Perhaps I should have titled it the 2 for 1 tree, lumber and firewood 🤣 I tend to leave smaller standing dead cherry in the woods as emergency firewood supply.
Looks like a nice size cherry. The last couple cherry logs I got a hold of had a lot of ring shake in them. I think 8 out of 10 cherry logs we receive have ring shake in them. The grain in that one looks pretty good. Nice job. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Steve. I've been thinking about counting the rings on various logs back to the shake and see if they match with each other and maybe with a big storm event.

Cherry is one of my favorites. Always beautiful
Beautiful and smells better than most!
Good boards and good firewood. Our cherries that are standing dead make good firewood.

Cherry is fun to saw, it always cuts so nice and looks great. Those'll be some pretty boards.
Cherry never disappoints, well, most of the time 😁
A job well done. even with out the firewood you still got some beautiful lumber.
Brent
Thanks Brent, we can always use firewood too but would rather have more nice lumber!
Sure was nice lumber on the outside. The shake sucked, but nice log for 4 years on the ground!
Thanks John! We seem to be finding alot of shake lately but not a whole loss at least.

Do you seal the ends when you let them sit that long?
Yes, they all had AnchorSeal applied when they were originally cut. Nowadays it is applied if we remember 🤣
