Right now, the macro recorder only supports Google Sheets. But there are tons of great shortcuts for Docs/Slides. Like, have you tried the Paint Format icon? (It's sitting up on the toolbar, next to Print.) Just highlight some formats you like, click that icon, and then click the text you want that format to be "painted" on.
I've been using macros for years and they're a lifesaver, but today something came up that I can't resolve. The "record macro" window pops up over the top of what I need to do and I can't get either dialogue box to move to be able to make my sheet edits while recording. I'm specifically trying to use the "split text to columns" action, but regardless of my window size, the box where I would normally input my custom splitter is behind the record macro button. Any tips would be much appreciated!
Hi.. can you tell me how to create a macro that selects a range of cells in a workbook and then goes to the file menu and gives a print command using google sheets?
I have a long formula to enter, can I copy/paste or do I have to type it all out? Risk of copy/paste from another sheet I will need to create that sheet each time?
Can I make a macro that works with clicks outside of the sheet but still in the drive. An example would be have it create a new folder in the drive when I run the macro and automatically have the folder named per a certain cell?
I need the maco recording to copy the selected cell and past it in the following sheet, in Excel for instance a macro recording copy the selected cell from 1 sheet to another would every time start from difference cells depends where it is selected, however in google sheets it is always copying the same cell where the macro was recorded, how can i solve this problem? thank you
I have a google sheets spreadsheet with 172 email addresses. I want to set up a macro to copy all the emails. Then use that macro to past them into an email. Can this be done
For example, I'm editing a cell, but then I see the formatting and such start to change from you running the macro, but my edit stays pending until I hit enter. If part of your macro depends on the value of a cell (i.e. a formula, or heat-map conditional formatting), it just comes down to whether I hit "enter" on the value before the macro runs, or after.
That's on me. We filmed with his actual work computer (he has a Chromebook), but when I make the screencasts for clarity, I use my iMac. #continuityfail
Yep! For multiple Sheets within the same Spreadsheet File, you can reference cells in a formula with the A1 notation. i.e. =SUM('Other Sheet'!B1:E10). Add the Sheet name in quotes, followed by an exclamation point. To reference another Spreadsheet File entirely, you'll need to use the IMPORTRANGE function. I made a video about that, as well! hi Joanna where can find videos like that but in spanish. thanks
"your macro will not block my edits" But what does a person who is editing see if the macro is run while she's working?
For example, I'm editing a cell, but then I see the formatting and such start to change from you running the macro, but my edit stays pending until I hit enter. If part of your macro depends on the value of a cell (i.e. a formula, or heat-map conditional formatting), it just comes down to whether I hit "enter" on the value before the macro runs, or after.
Thenku...
cool

Extra points for honesty. Thanks for the tutorial Joana!
