I was fortunate to hear this conducted by the composer with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra at the Meadowbrook Music Festival, and in addition he gave a lecture about film composing at the Detroit Main Library following a showing of Laura. Never seen a double mute before. Your Tallis Fantasia is unsurpassed.
It's actually an extract which comes from Raksin's own "Laura Suite: Theme and Variations." Presumably this is derived from the entire score he wrote for the movie. Anyway, you can hear all 27 minutes of it in a 1944 recording conducted by Alfred Newman via this link ... ruclips.net/video/-F9JnxrhdPM/видео.html
One of the best film noirs with a haunting score. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it

❤
Is this his own re-orchestration?

It follows the Gerhardt RCA recording as far as I can tell
It’s a suite that Raksin himself made for his New Philharmonia recording from the ‘70s
