I remember being in this youth group/summer camp type thing as a preteen and our group leader borrowed a top of the line 2000 Ford Excursion from a friend for the week. Our 7-8 person group went everywhere in that thing and I couldn't believe just how massive it was. Must've been the biggest vehicle I'd ever seen at that point in time.
I have a 2000 with the V10. It's great for camping trips, taking a bunch of people to concerts, and loading 50 sheets of drywall completely inside. She's a bit thirsty though.
I was very interested in the Excursion with the 7.3L diesel when we had four kids, a dog, and all their gear to haul around. The only reason I didn't pull the trigger was because I was concerned about being able to park it some places. It was big, beautiful, and the interior was light years nicer than a Suburban.
I've driven 4 fords over the years, only owned 1- the 92 bronco (2002 250, 2007 150, 350) and they drove like boxes, and were slugs, and the 2000 Suburban had a very nice interior.
I started working for a Ford dealership in 2008. We had an Eddie Bauer edition come onto our used lot. Even listed at retail new pricing as a used car the phone was ringing off the hook for it.
I’ve been fortunate enough to have taken road trips in Mercedes S classes (to include a W220 S600), a Cadillac Deville, Lexus LS430, a couple of Lincoln Navigators, and several Grand Marquis. By far and away, the Excursion I took a road trip in was the most comfortable and least fatiguing of them all. Amazing vehicles in their own right.
If Ford reintroduced the Excursion today, they wouldn’t be able to keep them on the lot. Just the fact that so many of these are still on the road all these years after the last Excursion rolled off the factory floor shows how much people love them and how much demand is there.
Yes another EV Platform that weighs more than the original without it's True capabilities!! Just shove in More weight, Less distance, Batteries Don't like Cold or Heat! It's Good for the environment because when you drive These EV $ 85K + trucks?!?! Your helping the environment!
Fun Fact: these were the exact same length and width as a regular cab long box F-250. They could have made one with 4 rows based on the crew cab long box.
Interesting. I just commented on the main thread here that I once saw a King Ranch trim Excursion that had three sets of doors, four total seating rows. I assume that this is part of the KR package, but it may have been a custom job unrelated to the KR trim. I have seen others since then on the road, but not close enough to know if they also have the KR badging and upgrades. If I had the money (including for fuel and repairs) and opportunity I’d certainly buy one like that. It was/is the longest non-commercial vehicle I have ever seen.

As a kid I wanted a big dually truck and a big SUV for road trips. Suburban never offered a duramax version. So I just wanted a diesel Excursion. If I could afford a DuraBurb I'd buy one!
I've had two of them - a 2000 with a 7.3 & a 2005 with a 6.0. Both well equipped, and served as a family vehicle while allowing me to tow for work as needed. I replaced the last one with a F-350 crew cab with 6.7. I had good luck with both Excursions, and would not hesitate to buy another. Did a better job towing than the Suburban the 2000 replaced.
My friend has an 04 Excursion with the 6.0. He lifted it 6 inches, put 35s on it and had some engine upgrades. I'd take it on long trips, it would get 15 mpg which for the size I'd say thats pretty good for what it is. My friend would race anything on the road with it and keep up most of the time.
5-6 years ago I realized I needed a huge SUV 4x4 and I preferred Ford flavor. I'm more into late 60s-mid 80s cars so really wasn't sure what was out there. I fell in love with the Lincoln Navigator specifically 1st gen and ended up with a black and tan 99 4x4 Navigator. This beast is perfect ....and then I saw an Excursion. 😱 THATS what I really needed but after watching several vids on them I've realized what little cargo space my Gator lacks that the Excursion can provide it compensates for in handling and comfort that the Excursion can't give me. I love my Gator and have no plans to ever part with it but that's not to say I wouldn't own an Excursion along with it if the price was right. I know where there's one right now on the cheap but some of its wear and tear raises red flags but still.

17/22 MPG with the V10 is a hard pill to swallow. I've heard owners talk about single digits around town, 12ish on the highway and 6-7 pulling trailer.
I recall the naming being more based on the fact that the explorer was for short exploration trips the expedition for mild expeditions. And the excursion for long excursions. Or that’s what the sales men used to say
Here in Texas I occasionally see the “King Ranch” version of the Ford Excursion. In addition to the KR fancy leather and other stuff that the trucks get, the Excursion gets an extra row of seating complete with a third set of doors. I can’t imagine how stiff that ride is. But it looks cool 😎.

Part of it was that, compared to the Suburban, the Excursion seemed less refined for the money. The engines were horrid gas-guzzlers with the V8 and especially the V10 lucky to hit 10 mpg. They were unwieldy in most handling tests. And soon after this came out, the Middle East war(s) started, oil prices were all over the place and being a massive guzzler wasn't the best image, and there were far more smaller cars on the road then and the Excursion looked like it would crush them. Did Ford came up with something similar to the Excursion, like a four door SUV Bronco in the late 80s early 90s? I saw few examples on the streets but it wasn't a Excursion name. They even had it in the late 70s early 80s versions as well.
its a conversion
i think one of the conversion companies that did this was centurion
We had an one with four children. It was perfect
Nice.
Thing looks so bad ass
Have you done a thunderbird turbo coupe ?
❤❤❤ I love a Ford Excursion have more room for everyone like first class. Have a best in class passenger of cargo have power for towing. Have a big fuel tank go long range. ❤❤❤ I love this suv from day one.
Honestly it would probably do amazingly well today
Woah the naming convention was NOT "EX". The naming convention was length or size of a trip and actually started with Escape then Explorer, Expedition, and finally Excursion.
