I was there, standing in the gallery on the right side near the stairs. My best friend Florian took me there - I haven't heard of FUGAZI before. It opened a whole new world to me.
Unfortunately Florian passed away last December aged only 53 and now I cherish this video even more

Fugazi was SO Punk Rock, they make damn near every other band who calls themselves Punk rock, pale in comparison. Had their own label, $5 shows, set cd, tape, vinyl, & now download prices. Never made videos. Never needed to market. Bare minimum promotion. They were, and still are, music's best kept secret. And having been in bands not knowing what we were doing AT ALL as a band, I've watched much bigger bands before & since them become slaves to their labels and contracts. Fugazi thought outside the box and set forth a blue print of how to do it all yourself, by yourself, for yourself. And their live shows were the stuff of legend. Even here, feeling under weather, Ian MacKaye was untouchable. Better than most artists, live, on a good day.
    All Hail Fugazi!!!

I’d never heard of them until that movie Mud and I randomly went down the Wikipedia rabbit hole. I’d known minor threat but was more a youth of today kid but the fact they never made any merch and that fugazi shirt in mud is just a fan made one off eBay, I ended up getting my own style fugazi shirt. Wore it for the first time in years and (I work in an office) the most random office workers who you’d never expect to listen to fugazi, will just blow your socks off with knowledge. The comment section is always so good on a fugazi video

Man, I remember in high school my older brother was heading off to college and I wanted to stay (I was in love with a girl at the time) home but my dad made me go. I had recently bought steady diet of nothing (this was 92 I think?) and also small parts isolated and destroyed (Nomeansno). I sat in that motor home for a hundred hours, listening to those two albums and watching the Idaho, Washington, and Montana landscapes whip by. I was just learning to play guitar and later covered a song from repeater. 30 years later and the emotions of sitting gazing out the window still come back. Such an important time of life.

saw them at the Dom Polski centre in adelaide, sth australia. After the gig, ears ringing, something made me wander backstage. There is ian, lookng through his notebook. I say hi, do you remember . He gives me that curious, sideways, ian mckaye look. Yeah I remember G. Then a pause. I remember you, Stuart's friend, right... I'm amazed, but not. I ask him what is in the book. Lyrics to old songs, new songs, borrowed songs, blue songs. He says no. Its people's names, fans he has met in each city. Thats what is important to this dude, not his own brilliant ego, but the folks he meets. Am I in the book? I ask. No, he says, I remember you because you're an aussie. Don't meet many of those. We say goodbye. Then he turns, and says, 'you were at a minor threat gig, too'. I said that I was, I admit that I had forgotten. Hardcore days.

Guy said that, at the beginning of Fugazi, he was listening to a lot of hip hop, Public Enemy in particular. His vocal style, i.e. backing Ian from time to time (and, perhaps, his dancing on stage, especially before picking up the second guitar), was actually similar to the one of Flavor Flav in PE. I'm one of the lucky ones who caught 'em twice. And they really were as amazing as legend has it. Even on the nights where they were sloppy and had some missed cues going from one song into another, they would make up for it by just rocking the hell out of those songs and by turning them into slightly looser jams that would get tweaked with extra noises or rearranged rhythms and pauses. That shit was exciting! They really weren't afraid to take risks live and get adventurous.

The other thing I like about this era is cameras were cool but nobody really had one. So having one person film it was like just a random cherry on top. You were already so happy being there in the moment that to see NO CAMERAS is amazing. Mad props to the crowd. Anyone else feel the same? Like a chore was sorta alleviated if one person just filmed it for the rest of us?

It was Nov 1994 and they played Black Cat. Next Sunday I told a friend:
"Ian's command of micro and macro dynamics is masterful. He has become an incredible guitarist."
My friend said that if anyone other than me would have said that he would have called b.s..
These guys (friends of my friends) had become, in 7 years, one of THE greatest Rock n Roll bands on planet earth.
Top 10 of Rock Era, easy.

    Words
    Words and expressions
All these confessions of where we stand
How I see you and you see me
    Dedications of symmetry
    Together we will be forever
    Promises are shit
We speak the way we breathe
Present air will have to do
    Rearrange and see us through
    Stupid fucking words
They tangle us in our desires
Free me from this give and take
Free me from this great debate
Here were no truer words than when spoken
Let that stand as it should
There was nothing left when broken
We grab anything when we fall
    Promises are shit
We speak the way we breathe
Present air will have to do
    Rearrange and see us through
    Stupid fucking words
They tangle us in our desires
Free me from this give and take
Free me from this great debate
You will do what you do
I will do what I do
We will do what we do
    Rearrange and see it through
Go where you think you want to go
Do everything you were sent here for
Fire at will if you hear that call
Touch your hand to the wall at night
    Promises
    Words

After they shook off all residual punk leanings in their music, they just began jamming and "doodleing", but in the arguably best, most intricate and craftful way possible - and always with an eye on catchy melodies.
