I am ever so grateful now that the community that raised us did the way they did. Because heritage and culture as been instilled by them to pass on. Remember every time this song came on it immediately transformed any Trinidadian in earshot suddenly one of two things happened the knees were either bent and a bounce began to happen ..or the stiff straight leg happened. Then the the shoulder roll shrug combo. The sway of the hips …and then the shuffle March in one place and whatever they were doing turned into a piece of the percussion (I was taught how to play a good car keys on rum bottle ting tick tick ting to this song) by the middle of this song everyone is dancing and movement everywhere in harmony. ❤ mom in apron cooking something or prepping something dad mixing drinks with the random uncles and aunties and just loud laughter and telling stories that is what it was to be A Trinidadian. I am proud of my heritage… and so grateful for music and this song. To as I am 43 now that a song over 30 years only can make me feel like a kid again. And seeing all the relatives I guess they were my age wow… perspective..
