    This is an effective and inspirational way to learn to play one of Lightfoot's magic in melody. You're an excellent teacher who gets the essential point to the player to get a feel for the rhythm and tone while pegging the strumming technique. Thanks for this amazing lesson.

    Thank you for this wonderful lesson! You have such a relaxed and clear teaching style. The one thing my ear is hearing differently on the verse is that rather than a regular D major, it sounds like a D Major 7 (open D string and bar the G, B and high E strings at the second fret (technically the 4th fret, but second fret up from the capo), and then rather than followed by a D Minor, it sounds to me like D Minor 7 (just like a regular four-string F Major chord, except with the D string played open).

    Amaj7 then Am7 not Fmaj7/A. And Dmaj7’s instead of some of the Ds (followed by Dm7 not Dm)

  • @paulbridges7306
    @paulbridges7306 5 лет назад +13

    I think there is a small error. The Fmaj7/A(+2capo) is OK in the intro and outro, but if you sing the melody, you'll find that chord doesn't work in the verse. The G natural in the Gmaj7/B chord clashes with the Gb and G# in the melody line. Instead, an Am7 (+2capo) works in the verses. So the verse chords (capo'd) alternate between AMaj7 and Am7.
    Note also that a Dm7 (+2capo) sounds nicely jazzy rather than the Dm (capo+2), but either is good. At any rate, a really nice tutorial. Thanks.

    Awsome sauce.....been playing this for years. Interesting story.....this is one of my favs. I played this at a friends wedding. A marriage we all knew wouldn't last. It didn't. The upshot is I wasted this song on his wedding instead of playing it at my own, a few years later. What a putz I am...lol. Reading this, I realize...it's not that interesting. Anyway, Happy, healthy, prosperous New Year Shane my man.

    Try A Minor 7 as your second chord for the lyrics only, instead of F Major 7. Use F Major 7 for the intros.
    Also, I love to up string strum (1st to 5th) sort of like arpeggio and then pick up on the down, down, up routine. I do this on the first and second intro chords.

    Great job on this song! Very informative for sure! Revisiting a few of Gordon's Gold for myself, hopefully for playing out with soon again. I may play BASS on it, which I just nailed down easily. Gonna' put the guitar parts in the arsenal now so I can do either. The bass is so cool. Having such a ball with it, don't know which instrument to grab first!!
    THANKS for your videos! Great job! I'll be back for more.
