They have recently done 2 more versions of this track during the pandemic, both with 2 female vocalists in the lineup (Hester Goodman is back and joins Leisa Rae in the duet part) one version is in the pay for view world service vids on their website (Ben covering for Jonty on bass, due to travel restrictions), the other rendition is part of their series of Lockdown videos filmed in individual isolation, but only released as an extra last (14th) track in the San Francisco Performances Pivot Festival collection of their lockdown videos ruclips.net/video/aA-OnKi93Bg/видео.html
I've seen Mr Bowie 3 times live since 1973. I have heard him sing this live twice. This version is brilliant and brings a little tear. Well done. See you on Sunday at Halifax x
I've had a really shit day ! Then I find this gem, one of my favourite bands, playing one of my favourite songs, by one of my favourite artists. Thanks folks for brightening an otherwise crap day and making it seem as though it will all be right in the end. Much love.
Thank you all! You have created something majestic and moving. For me, it is the best version of "Heroes", and I am grateful to have discovered it. Thank you once more, for something so beautiful and powerful.
It's 12-45am and it's hapend again! I thought I would just listen to Teenage Dirt Bag before I made supper!!!! That was at 10pm! Why do I always end up forgetting what I was going to do when I click on one of their videos????? Oh yes I remember now! It is because The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain are just AMAZING!!!
Yes, I think the comedy is just a device to allow the band to get people to listen to some of the most subversive reinterpetations I have ever heard. Even the ukeleles are really not necessary. Their version of Psycho Killer for instance is so much edgier than the original and their version of Kraftwerk's Das Model is much more interesting than Kraftwerk's. (I'll go and hide from the Talking Heads and Kraftwerk fans now)
I saw a similar thing when Jake Shimabukuro said he was going to play Bohemian Rhapsody on the ukelele at a TED talk at Longbeach California. A lot of giggles went round the hall. Then he absolutely blew them all away and got a standing ovation at the end,
George is taking a well-earned break. Hester rejoined them at The Wycombe Swan Theatre last night. This sounded even better with a more balanced line-up of two women and six men. That is not to decry the skills of those not there or left out, but it just worked so well. It was a fantastic evening.
Very moving. :..) I'll bet David Bowie would have loved it. It was you guys who inspired ne to see the ukulele as a real instrument, not just a toy guitar. I have my own now (after resisting them) and have found that playing it has actually improved my piano and violin playing. Thank you for opening up an unexplored avenue to me. x
Yes, me too.
This is just amazing. I listen to it a lot, and it always makes me smile. I didn't think anyone could equal or improve the original... but I was wrong. 😀👍
6 Years ago I had tickets to see them in royal Albert Hall and could not go. I'm now living in Paris and will take a plane to Hamburg to see them in September. I cannot wait for it this band is purely amazing.
One of my absolute favorites. Saw them in Uppsala Sweden and Helsinki and Tampere Finland a couple of years ago. Great performancies, they made me form my own ukeorchestra. Check Grus Ukulele if Your intrested. Cheers from Finland.
I can't really describe how great this cover is. It's so beautiful that I literally tear-up every time I listen to it. I just heard Bowie's original on Pandora and quick came here to just listen/compare. I can honestly say I don't know which version I prefer.
I absolutely love these videos. Wish I could see these performances live. Of all the musicians no longer living, it's Bowie I find myself thinking of and missing the most.
Saw them live in Munich - every year there at carneval time. They are brilliant and hilarious - musicians and comedians as well. For the bonuses they left the stage, than came back telling us :" We didn't found the door....." 🤣
Over my time here on this earth I have always looked/liked the slightly off bits. This Uke group has been a favorite one off of mine ever since I found them! I see no disrespect to David Bowie at all! I feel that these folks honored him with this rendition.
Fantastic to see you guys in London this week. This version moved me to tears (again) and a well deserved standing ovation. Two hours of sublime enjoyment. Would recommend anyone to grab tickets for the shows - I’m sending relatives in the US to their Wisconsin show next year 😊
OMG!! My inner child wants to go running across the hill with my arms in the air, while looking up at the sky and listening this cover un my headphones. Really love it.
I didn't watch any UOGB videos for several years, and I swear that when I watched the most recent ones I was like: oh too bad Richie is gone, now we got this sexy man in glasses. And I just found it was Richie because he laughs so easily
I believe even Robert Fripp would give this a thumbs up.
Tears in my eyes when the female vocalist kicked in. After DB's own versions this is a new favourite. Thanks RUclips algorithm.
Poignantly, RIP both David and Kitty.

@@zoe_blackmore Thanks!
Probably the best version of any song on ukulele in the universe
Probably one of the best versions of one of the best human being written and performed songs, music in the universe...
Damn they're good
I've not come across a bad version of Heroes as yet but this...this is brilliant..take a bow.
Somewhere, David Bowie is smiling and tapping his foot.
Put a smile on my face! I really needed that!
I thought exactly the same.
I bet he'd love this.
I agree 👍
I totally agree
Might I add: This is the most beautiful, sensitive & respectful rendition of D.B's epic, EVER!
i guess I'm kinda off topic but does anybody know of a good place to stream new tv shows online ?
@Israel Anthony meh I use flixportal. you can find it thru google:D -zyaire
@Zyaire Lian Thank you, signed up and it seems like a nice service :) Appreciate it !
@Israel Anthony no problem xD

Possibly the favourite cover of any song that I’ve ever heard and I’ve heard a lot.
Thank you all!

the pain is real, my friend.
Take heart for you're NOT alone!
Thank God for discovering you all, guys!!! Great...simply great as Great Britain!!!!!!!!!!!
The giggles soon stopped when it got real.

Why do they giggle? This was strong, powerful. And I was thinking that Kitty was providing the counter point. She is still there.
@@lawrencetaylor4101 I think you missed the comedic variation on David Bowie's original lyrics. "I will be King", "no, you will be Queen"
Yes I wondered why the audience was laughing. It was beautiful!
I saw a similar thing when Jake Shimabukuro said he was going to play Bohemian Rhapsody on the ukelele at a TED talk at Longbeach California. A lot of giggles went round the hall. Then he absolutely blew them all away and got a standing ovation at the end,
Big thumbs up to the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain for this. It put a smile on my face.
Great to see the Ukes back on the tube again, but very strange to see a line-up without George and Hester, and, of course, we all miss Kitty.
Andy Giles yes its so sad :(

oh, now I've got to watch teenage dirt bag again!
May Kitty's memory be a blessing. x
what happened to them? i watch their vids and love the music, but i dont get news on them
Had the absolute privilege of seeing them live twice and I cannot recommend it enough. Such an amazing and beautiful group of hilarious individuals.
I just stumbled upon these guys today and I am just blown away! I would pay good money to watch these people. So good All of their songs
The world without Kitty and Bowie... thank God for memory!
How can 51 people not love this ? It’s superb !
Banjo playing perverts.
@@decam5329 They can be zeroes!

Yeah! They've been doing this for over 30 years, and I just discovered them this week! 😱
Better late than never...! 😉

The more I listen to this the more I love it. Seen them loads of times they’re absolutely brilliant
Gotta love Dave and Jonty’s harmony vocal near the first of the song! Amazing talent and just pure pleasure!
I just saw them perform this song in Belfast Ulster hall Sunday 29th sept Just sublime , superb best £52 me and my wife have spent all 2019.
❤Greetfull! THANKS
This is just amazing. I listen to it a lot, and it always makes me smile. I didn't think anyone could equal or improve the original... but I was wrong. 😀👍
The laughter from the audience detracted from a near flawless performance. I think that Bowie would have been pleased. Bravo Zulu!
Ian MacVicar.
Just another undesirable American tasteless import.
Jazz solos get applause during the number but it's brief, tasteful and screamless
Didn't detract at all!
No, not at all. The laughter is welcome for their performance.
im coming back again and again listening to this .... its so good ... its perfect
The fact that my country came up not only with Bowie, but also the Motorhead live version, and this, makes me very happy

Every now and again something comes along that I just play over and over. Saw these guys finish with this last week and it took the roof off!
THIS is music! Great performance.

I was searching for a ukulele cover of this song... This is one of my favorite. Just wow
kitty lux i miss you madam..love you so much!!! RIP!!!
A lockdown version of this as a tribute to key workers would be great.
I agree!!
@@eba44 It has to be done -with a change of lyrics to suit the NHS - come on UOGB - do it!!!!!!
Why? We get paid
OMG, So powerful, outstanding, Jonty on bass so steady, the red fish was served a gourmet dish.
How can anyone not like this version? It was great
