I was 21 in 1991, and bought a gold turbo 2 w/ 20k miles. Put every paycheck into it for 3yrs straight. Intercooler. Exhaust. Chip. Turbo. Bigger Fuel Injectors....suspension...etc etc. Best car I ever owned - wish I had saved it these past 30 yrs. Thanks for taking me back!!! This car was waaaay ahead of its time back then. It has aluminum susp arms, aluminum spare tire, and aluminum JACK from the factory. Throw in the all mighty rotary and its a wrap. I devoured MANY cars back then. The best was a hopped up GN built for dragging. And the RX7 can corner too. As for rotary reliability goes, I sold mine with 170k and she ran factory that day. xoxox PS Beastie Boys was usually in the deck - CD's were new at this time but waaaay to expensive. hahahaha (sidenote > pay attention to fuel injectors in these, dont wanna run lean in a rotary.)
I owned a 79 FB in yellow about 6 years ago but got rid of it because I felt I couldn't care for it properly. 2 years ago I picked up a white S5 FC vert with black interior 5-speed that was in questionable condition and have spent what little money I have here and there to try and restore it back to factory original. Leaks, electrical issues, runs rough and more. Just had the trans rebuilt and some engine work done as step one and I have faith that I can restore this car to its former glory. I picked up a second red vert that had been sitting for $250 with a still running engine and plan to restore that one as well. I love and respect these cars. So much so that one day I got fed up and tried to sell them only to find myself beginning to cry when I got an offer and promptly took the listing down. Wonderful machines that deserve mad amounts of respect.
That's cool, I have a 90' FC in Harbor Blue with the Mazdaspeed MS01 LMs. So far haven't seen anyone else in the Dallas, Texas area with the same wheels. Keep up the good work and great find my friend

I got a S5 turbo II myself that I've dailied for 2 years since I got it. Rotaries are forgiving with stalling. I've stalled and only put the clutch all the way down quickly to have the engine restart itself.
I bought one of these long ago with 5000klms on it from Newcastle Mazda. Brakes failed on it one time, a few months later it caught on fire, had to put it out with a fire extinguisher at a fuel station. When it ran it was good......
Two years later this popped up to the top of my feed just after watching you drift that green and orange FC. Was wondering if you would end the video with jaa mata back in those days and so glad when it came.
@@ch00pii84 .I didn't mention how I am starting a RUclips channel making back to stock .It needs to be repainted and the guy before didn't know how to assemble the engine correctly.

awesome!! this is great content Sammit! I can't wait to see what you have in store for us back in Japan. I love RX7's and rotary. I cant wait to see you drive a Supra.
Might be something with the brake booster check valve causing spongy brakes. I know when I built mine I did not have a check valve in and the brakes would not kick until boost was drained, which was hella sketchy.
I hope we get some daily S15 driving in Japan? To get friendly with it before you destroy it in drifting. Or are you going to get a project / track only / already drifted / not road legal car?
There’s an fc that’s in an overgrown driveway just sitting and I want it soo bad but I’m 14 and my parents probably won’t let me buy it until i get my licencse in about 1.5 years 🥲
It was done by bullet. Australian build then they switched to a v8. To my knowledge fitting a 13bt is a fairly straight forward job, as far as conversions go. Have future plans for a mx5 13bt hard top once kids are grown and moved out. So about 15yrs time.
@@blyndrotor Nice! I'll look that up. I thought about this afterwards and realized to do this you'd likely go from a reliable car that you can beat on without worries to a more expensive car (the motor) that you might end up babying more. If that's accurate at all it no surprise this isn't more common.
@@humboldtef If memory serves me correctly the great thing about that conversion is that on the fab side of things it is simply a matter of swapping the engine mounts from left to right etc, tail shaft length, I think minimal work for shifter pos and that being a lighter car the engine is less stressed so just swap all electrics, loom etc. Buy a front cut from a s4/5 turbo and you have pretty much all you need except little things.

You don't need a clutch like that in a Rotary.. Mine makes more power with just a heavy duty single that has stock feel, holds the power and takes the abuse.
my original clutch literally went up in smoke when i turned up the boost and put HKS exhausts on it..one run thru the gears and it was slipping like a knife on buttered bread..the cabin was filled with smoke from the burning clutch... mine definitely needed an aftermarket clutch to handle the extra boost
