Nice!!! Can't wait to see the finished results....I've also used a clearcoat spray to seal the tape edges before applying the paint. It's a great technique, with beautiful results....Thank you for sharing this Derek!
Great tips on the masking. Pity the rain - which I agree, we desperately need - put a pause on the build. Looking forward to seeing how it all turns out!
Just got my hands on these files from Whitey's Wicked Workshop! I've never awaited a filament order so anxiously. Can't wait for your premiere brother.
Love you, Mr Vanoakypropiepoos. I'm going to do a Ghostbusters frozen Empire power box next. You glued sandpaper to tongue depressers, but why not use emery boards?
It’s not the screen time that is important. It is the plot importance. Because their use (and destruction) drive the action, they are important. More so than say a background droid or panel.
I think my colors are a bit more blue green than the originals, but I'm happy with them. One of these days I'll get my hands on a real Paterson Trident slide viewer and will figure out what it actually should be.
Looking good so far! Do you have a link to the spring clip paint stand you use? I’ve not been able to find one with clamps this large- it looks super useful!
@VanOaksProps, if you haven't already, I'm pretty sure that EBay allows you to put an alert for an item. (You might even be able to put in a price range !?) You'll get an email when one is posted. You may want to include the term "LOT", in your search as often you can get several pieces, in various state of disrepair, for a fraction of the "new" cost. Since you don't need working pieces, just the housing, you may have better luck on a lower price ! P.s. lots of great tips in your videos !
Such a great piece! Dug the detailed breakdown of techniques.
Thanks, glad you liked it!

Thanks! I'm looking forward to finishing it up.
I will definitely try the dusting layer technique the next time I spray paint.
Happy you slipt this in a multi part…. This is one I’ve been wanting to do… now I’m going to have to try it

Thanks, Brian!

Hahaha. I didn’t have any emery boards on hand so I made them. Plus 120 grit is more aggressive than most nail files.
@@VanOaksProps Ah, fair play. You can get quite agressive emeryboards, but I see your point. Looking forward to part 2.
@@VanOaksProps Just had a look at emery boards - have 120/240 grit, plus 180/100. So, they will go as rough as you like :)
@ good to know
Thank god you are okay. Stay safe out there
Thank you!

Coming out great. Cant wait to see the finished product! How do the paints compare? On screen they look pretty dead on to the original.

Thanks! The stand is something I made in another video. Here’s a link:

Great Job!! Do you have a link for the rechargeable air duster that you use? Thanks.
Thanks! Links to everything can be found in the video description.
Thanks. Will click and buy.
@ I appreciate it!
"Sanding. Why did it have to be sanding?..."
The bane of my existence.
I have one of these slide viewers
That's awesome! I'm still on the hunt for one, even with this prop nearly finished.
@VanOaksProps I'm in the uk I'm afraid or I would have done it for what I paid which was only £25
