Seeing how he is easily swayed by a simple rumor means he's very insecure of himself. Insecure, arrogant, and selfish

Soulmates can come in many forms. It can be the friendship similar to that of Ling Yunche and Empress. Emperor and Empress were childhood lovers, the end was too pitiful. It was entirely his fault that everything collapsed in the end; if he wasn’t suspicious or insecure, he would of never even opened his ears.
Emperor husband is a real jerk chasing groundless rumors and expecting Ruyi to accommodate him ALL the time even after she loses a child and he's not there to comfort her. What's his problem? Also ridiculous is he can have hundreds of women, yet he gets so jealous over rumors.

As the films have been cut a lot scene so you can't watch her end. However, in the original novel, Maoqian will be then punished to become a nun in Pagoda, and never can have a comfortable life again.

@@makomermaid4200 The films in Chinese named "Ruyizhuan" （如懿傳）literally means "the story of Ruyi" and its original novel named "Hougong: Ruyizhuan" （后宮 • 如懿傳）means "The Inner palace: Ruyi' story". I don't sure If there's an English version for the novel or not.

When you’ve been told consistently that you are always right because you are the son of heaven (aka the emperor), and everyone is too afraid to tell you your constantly making mistakes for fear of death, you’ll begin to truly believe you are infallible. He feels alone and has to constantly be on his guard against schemes from both outside and inside the palace. It’s reasonable to become paranoid, especially while on drugs. Too many birds chirping in his ears.
But don’t get me wrong.....he’s a real POS selfish scumbag. I guess this is why in a lot of the c-dramas and k-dramas I’ve watched, the emperor usually is being slowly poisoned. The women just can’t take his shit anymore.
Just don’t know how to handle a confident woman,Ruyi is very strong I am in awe of her and her strength! Him on the other hand he’s not yet a man and whoever raised him did a horrible job because he thinks of no one but himself with all the insecurities and hang ups he has I would seriously reject being his concubine consort or any other thing he wanted! I look at this in a very different way, what if Ruyi was the Queen and there were no Emperors?, now that’s some kind of serious drama

I always find what happens is extremely unrealistic. Qianlong is paranoid but not perverted enough to torment someone who really save his son and wife in front of everyone. I rather if the story said he simply banishes Ling and ban him from stepping into the palace to get rid of the rumours. Sometimes these dramas and the original novel actually do those emperors bad in order to beautify the court women.
He already did that when the guy was framed for taking an undergarment. He returned when he saved her and the son. He has spare women and kids. Does it even matter?

Wow , the empress is thorough, she even logged in the dates in her life that she cannot forget including the day he slapped her because consort Rong was rendered infertile but that was her wish not the empress. So, he accused her of ignoring him and distant, who would not be after all the treatment that she received from him. Why can he go to his other woman that he professed to love and be comforted by them. Nobody comforted the empress when her son died, you are not even around.
