- Serie A, also called Serie A TIM due to sponsorship by Telecom Italia, is a professional league competition for football clubs located at the top of the Italian football league system and has been operating for over eighty years since the 1929-30 season. It had been organized by Lega Calcio until 2010, but a new league, the Lega Serie A, was created for the 2010-11 season. Serie A is regarded as one of the best football leagues in the world and it is often depicted as the most tactical national league. Serie A is the world's second strongest national league according to IFFHS and has produced the highest number of European Cup finalists: Italian clubs have reached the final of the competition on a record twenty-six different occasions, winning the title twelve times. Serie A is ranked 4th among European leagues according to UEFA's league coefficient behind La Liga, Premier League and the Bundesliga, which is based on the performance of Italian clubs in the Champions League and the Europa League during the last five years. Serie A led the UEFA ranking from 1986 until 1999.

I was searching for the last one.. Finally found it.. Good old days.. Used to watch Serie A - highlights regularly as a young boy here in South Africa..
OMG... Finally found it. The 2nd song was the best intro I've heard. 90's was the best era for Serie A. Team such as Juventus...Lazio... Sampdoria... AC Milan... Inter Milan... Napoli. Every team have the best player. Jaw dropping goals.... Interesting Sunday for me. Always treasure it. From Malaysia.

I came here after the Italy win Euro 2020 final. Italy was a very stylish country in the 1980s and 1990s and their football reflected that. The Music, fashion,food,culture just brilliant. Wish I could go back to the early 1990s again. With Serie A was the best league in the world.

The first intro was from late 80s until end of '91 season. Second was from 91 until end of 93 season. Third was from 94 season, I think it was only played for one year.
My favourite is the first one, closely followed by the second. I never saw these shows (we never had satellite TV, which we would have needed in England to see Italian football before 1992), but the music is typical of programmes of the era and I love it.
The second one used to be on RTE2 in Ireland on Monday nights - took me so long to find it, just magic, thank you
3rd intro was when I started watching Serie A.Loved Batigol and his fearsome shots.

I have been looking for these series A intro especially the 1989 to 1991. Nobody posted that until this came so thank you very much! Brings back great memories and not forgetting Italia 90. Fabulous time of top class football played with passion. It's all about the money these days.

Those were the days when every player across Europe and South America left their home leagues and headed for Italy.
You could hardly see foreign players signing for Manchester United,Liverpool or Arsenal in those days.Being a United fan,I was wondering in my teenage years back in the 90s on why Italian clubs or to a lesser extent Spanish clubs were dominating all European competitions while English clubs did not do well in Europe until after 1999.

First intro is my favorite. I grew up watching it in the 80s where Platini and Maradona were the kings in Italy. Forza Juve!!!!
The best intro was the 1987-88 season when Ian Rush was at Juventus I still ave a video of the Napoli v Milan game when Milan came away with a win even though Maradona scored a cracking free kick

That first opening when Maradona, Gullit, Van Basten all graced the Serie A. I used to watch it every Sunday in Hong Kong in the late 80s.
The 2nd one brings back memories and for years I didn't know what it was as I was mid teens back then, not very cultured or worldly. Some years later I heard a busker playing Pachelbel's Canon and I finally knew the song name. I have never found this version of canon though, would love to get my hands on a full copy.

The days of Batigol , Baggio, Pepe Signori, Conte, The German Trio of Klinsmann Mattheus Brehme, Rudi Voller, The dutch trio, Gullit Rijkard Van Basten, Dario Hubner, Igor Protti, Daniel Fonseca, Rubin Sosa with those free kicks. Sunday Mornings and that music was what Sunday was all about, Sunday morning Football recorded on VHS, to watch right after mass, Mamma''s Sunday Roast and arvo Gelati , that music that intro thanks for the trip down memory lane Guys , the Roma Lazio Derbies, The Milan Derbies when they meant something.
Nicely said, Sunday mornings were awesome with Serie A.

The most intro I remember for serie A.
The 3rd intro in this video is the intro of the season I started following Serie A. It brought back memories, especially the Asprilla dance, bittersweet memories 😍😍😍

+Nicholas Milano Thanks guys appreciate it, they were great times for me as well. I'm a big fan of Gianluca Vialli so I've managed to get the full Serie A seasons of 90/91 and 94/95 when he won the championship with Sampdoria and Juve respectively.

However makes me wish I hadn't thrown away all my old VHS tapes with my Serie A recordings on them! I am a massive Napoli and Maradona fan and I had so many of these games on tape :-(
Does anyone have the great review of Italia 90 SBS did, narrated by Les Murray? That was awesome. They also showed this really great documentary on the 78 WC in the run up to the 90WC; I've been searching for it ever since but to no avail. That doco had the running theme of "the billion dollar show", and had lots of references to the Junta.
I've been searching for this for such a long time. Wish I still had those VHS tapes, I used to record every week. Specially the highlights package in the end with commentary and this music playing in the background. Are those highlights available anywhere at all?

SBS salls itself "The World Game" nowadays, but it's whored itself over to the epl completely now.
Not sure why it's still called The World Game when 90% of what they show comes from one country.
The Italians had a superb league in the 1980s and 1990s all the best foreign players of the era were playing in it. Then it was overtaken by the over hyped English Premier League. I was gutted when this happened. The football played in Italy in the 1980s and 1990s was far better than anything played in England in the last 23 years with the EPL. I would rather fly to Italy and watch a game of Serie a than watch an EPL game in England.

I will find myself humming the tune of the third intro when I play football video games at times.
Love the various scenes during the different seasons of the 1990s when they used the third intro eg Vialli being sent tumbling at the touchline and the scenes in the third intro.

Italian football is terrible now but boy how good were the 80s and 90s. Watched this in Ireland in the 80s, What players graced the division and my hero - Diego Maradona was king and absolutely walked Napoli from a team of nothing to the best in the land, such was his greatness. The 2019 film is well worth watching, his fall from grace after Argentina beat Italy in the Sao Paulo of all places in Italia 1990 was odd, what did the Italians expect? Maradona to throw a sickie and stay home?! His words while getting booed at the anthem at the start were funny.. 'sons of bitc***' he mouths to the packed stadium. Class player and a fantastic time for football - unlike now with pigba, Neymar and other idiots ..and obese agents like Riola.
