if i remember correctly warcraft 3 had an option to hide terrain on minimap
its not a crucial feature, i just think it is easier to see units when they are on a black background, making it easier to spot units on minimap
i wish every rts/moba had this feature, since you probably already know the terrain so it is more important to spot units than having a terrain background

I totally agree, the minimap is a bit messy right now. I'm sure they'll clean it up or give options for players and casters to customize it a bit

If Infernal gets anything that AoE slows or gives a speed buff, the problem will sort itself out pretty quick.

I think a single turret would be sniped pretty quickly, but some stationary defense would certainly help. Problem you're gonna run into is simply that you need that for EVERY base
