Anodising is an electro chemical process It will not chip or peel (but doesn't last forever does it! Anodising does not resist salty water like in my dishwasher or the sea or sea air.) Anodising is carried out in a sulphuric acid bath, a cathode is mounted to the inside Aluminium acts as anode Loaded on carrier racks - Anodising is a highly controlled form of oxidation. There are 5 stages (8 really counting the rinsing!) 1 Cleaning to remove grease in an alkali bath, and rinse 2 Etching with caustic or acid bath, and rinse (called: de-smutting) 3 Anodising - current releases the oxygen which grows the anodised layer out of the surface - this generates a lot of heat and the electrolyte must be cooled to maintain the correct temperature. Time in the bath regulates the thickness. Following this the anodised product is rinsed in de-ionised water to remove all minerals that could produce spotting in the final steps 4 Colouring. The newly created anodised surface is porous! And dies or pigments can be introduced. 5 Sealing. Finally, the pores must be sealed using a nickel acetate.
I worked for a small company that did anodizing --usually a black color. Sometimes if there was a missed spot o a part, the owner would get out the spray paint and touch it up!
I do this for a living. 5+yrs and we do this on an even slightly larger scale with tanks twice that size. I feel bad for the people that had to clamp all of that on! Those slide clamp bolts were pretty neat though
great content! any Anodizing process that would basically make the substrate Non-Magnetic? in other words, any “Type IV” version that when applied prevents Al-vs-Al interface from conducting electricity?
Hi there. Love your work. I have a question regarding aluminum oxide. What chemicals or oxides can reduce aluminum oxide melting point if you heat them together in a crucible in a furnace? I know this auestion is not in par with the video above but I dont have your email address. I will appreciate your feedback
Hi Siri. When aluminium is anodized the surface is hardened. The result is a high performance, hardcoat surface. Read more here: www.hydro.com/en-us/profiles/aluminum-anodizing/
I dont mean to be offtopic but does any of you know of a way to get back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb forgot the login password. I love any assistance you can give me!
We use well water in our cleaners but RO water in rinses, anodize tanks and seals. This helps eliminate hard water spots due to high iron in well water.
They run it through a filter press after neutralising the initial effluent that filters out the impurities etc leaving a cake that gets thrown into landfill (well that's what they do in the UK atleast)
Romans 10:9 New King James Version 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Thank you
Why we introduce porous to color the aluminum
Beautifully explained. Not just the "How", but also the WHY for each phase! Thank you
Awesome video. Precise, Clear with real visual making it easier to follow and understand. Well done.
Thank you so much for explaining this so clearly with real visuals
I do this for a living in but on a smaller scale. Crazy seeing parts that large being anodized.
What do you do?
I know. Their hoists and tanks are huge. Our operation is something I'm proud of, this is on another level though.

This is not suppose to happen, why do you guys get spot? Bad water?
@@timcheou5649 I'm not sure. Perhaps the surface that was being held by the clip prevented contact with the anodizing solution.
@@timcheou5649 it's due to air trapped under the aluminum sections while in tank. Jig the sections at a good slope and see.

Hello thank you for explaining in depth, please guide how to test anodized thickness.
There's a meter we use at work. I'll check and message back when I get the name of it tomorrow.
We use DFT Meter ( eddy current based) for anodizing thickness cheking..

Great report with a very clear explanation, thank you!
Very well done. I thorough enjoyed this video and your explanation.
Please tell me the anode mode: NaOH concentration, Temperature, H2SO4 concentration and current density. Thank you!
Thanks for coming to Brazil and contaminating our rivers. Nice and clean!
Ya man, all lovely acids and suchlike.
Awesome Video. Its always good to see Anodizing from start to finish. Grip6 has Buckles and Belts that are Anodized.
Thank you for this interesting industrial steps in anodizing. Coloring seem to give very likable appearance. In

Maybe you can help us with some advice.
Good content to help us visualise and appreciate the process ..
What is the purpose of the copper strap running the length of the workbar? Does this improve end to end color variation?
I keep watching your videos
The final thickness becoming 2X that of the base metal after anodizing, is it a standard value Or it varies?

They do not use groundwater for this purpose..... do they? 😢 I hope they are first treating the wastewater and then using it for anodising........
Why do they need to use clean water? For harder finish?
