  • As requested by BKDBrian2, here is another early Golden Book Video Classic making its RUclips debut: "Peter Rabbit and Other Tales," AKA "3 Amye Rosenberg Stories."
    The first story is an adaptation of the Beatrix Potter classic, "The Tale of Peter Rabbit." Watch as the disobedient Peter (with that familiar "little boy" voice heard in many other Golden Book Videos) breaks into Mr. McGregor's garden and makes some mischief!
    Special thanks to doughnutser256 for supplying the tape.

      @@jojo_hedgehog2021 I know Peter didn't say he ate his supper in Mr. McGregor's garden, it was just a funny thing I made up because it would seem like Peter was already full enough from eating a lot of vegetables in Mr. McGregor's garden as seen from 3:48-4:11 which shows that Peter already ate his supper. Then starting at 4:12 it showed that he was already full of his supper but couldn't show how full he was after seeing Mr. McGregor and constantly being chased. Overall, his mom was serving bread, milk, and blackberries for supper as seen from 9:42-9:46 since they were berry picking from 1:08-1:20. Perhaps Peter would have told his mom that he's already full but she saw him looking sick.

    This is probably why I have anxiety. Glad I’m not the only one who found this scary and disconcerting as a kid. It ends with Peter sad, naked, and exhausted from running from his life an nearly getting chopped in half. And listen to that creepy music as they show Peter’s poor jacket in Mr McGregor’s garden stuffed on a spike as a warning to the rabbits.

  • @pamelaschonour1707
    @pamelaschonour1707 9 лет назад +7

    Poor Peter Rabbit. It's sad when he loses his coat and shoes. I feel sorry for him even if he doesn't listen to his mom. There is one story called Benjamin Bunny and in that story Peter gets his coat and shoes back.

    • @afriendofbean
      @afriendofbean 9 лет назад +4

      +Pamela Schonour I agree. It's sad that Peter lost his jacket and shoes where Mr. Mcgregor used them as a scarecrow. However, I'm sure Peter felt sad too but, I'm sure he felt safe to be back home not injured while in bed with Mr. Mcgregor not living anywhere close to them (Mr. Mcgregor wouldn't even be interested in trying to catch them even if he lived next door) as Peter said from 9:47-9:58.

    That's true that his wife killed the father and of course, nobody would like pests in their garden. (I remember seeing a rabbit eating spinach in my garden). Plus, with the mom being scared about Mr. Mcgregor was feeling like he can run faster than rabbits when rabbits are faster than humans. If Mr. and Mrs. Mcgregor killed the father with a knife or axe (as you mentioned) or with a gun, Peter was lucky that Mr. Mcgregor didn't have one of them with him instead just having a lid at 5:18).

    Here's an idea for a YTP of this, when showing the rabbits at the beginning, at Mopsy 0:48, have a character shout 'No you're not' and show the original illustrations of Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit book, showing Mopsy being a girl bunny. In fact you can make a lot of references of how inaccuate this adaptation is.

      Yeah, several stories do tend to share narrators. I'm reminded of how the British narrator in the Richard Scarry "The Gingerbread Man" story also narrated "The Emperor's New Clothes" in the Hans Christian Andersen video, and the guy that voiced Diddly in "Herbert the Timid Dragon" also narrated the Richard Scarry version of "The Wolf and the Kids."

    Maybe the face of the scarecrow looked scary as the narrator mentioned at 8:15 that Peter took a look at the garden (I don't know how Peter saw the garden since it didn't look like he could see that high over a tall gate) along with getting the fear of being chased by Mr. Mcgregor along with almost getting put in a pie by Mr. Mcgregor.

    Sorry for sounding gross but, it's a good thing that Peter never threw up ever starting at 4:37 since he had the fear of being seen by Mr. Mcgregor, and the fear of being chased, and the fear of thinking he was going to die, and for having a full stomach since Peter mentioned that his stomach is full after eating a lot and with the narrator mentioning that Peter was going to lie down which all happened from 4:12-4:32. (Definately, if Peter slowed down from being full, he would have been caught)

    From 8:07-8:09, what did Mr. Mcgregor say after he said "pop you in a pie?" It sounds like he said "and teach you to swim in gravy" but, I'm not sure what he said. Does that mean he will cut Peter up and make his body parts float in gravy (if he did say "gravy?") However, I think a "pie" and "gravy" don't make a good combination together.

      The music that is playing at the end of the Golden Book Video version of "The Tale of Peter Rabbit" is "Ghostly Footsteps" by David Snell. However, the one version of that tune that plays at the end of this video is the alternate ending version of this tune. The original version of "Ghostly Footsteps" in that video is heard from 6:11 to 6:26. From the moment I first watched the Golden Book Video version of "The Tale of Peter Rabbit" at my female baby-sitter's house as a little girl, I recognized that exact same eerie tune that also was used in the "Show Me a Story: Beatrix Potter Vol. 1" and its version of "The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher." That's one of the things I most enjoy about these different video versions of "The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher" (S.M.A.S., 1986) and "The Tale of Peter Rabbit" (G.B.V., 1985).

      fiddleremma
      By the way, if you're curious about what other kids' story from any source I like to associate with "Ghostly Footsteps" by David Snell, I enjoy associating both versions of that tune with "The Case of the Galling Stones" episode of "Mathnet" on Square One TV, which is the episode where Sargeant Pat (Patti) Tuesday gets falsely accused and punished for the disappearance of a brunette haired woman's silvery bracelet with a dodecahedron on it. Imaginatively, I associate the original version of that eerie David Snell tune with the part where Captain Joe Grecco, Pat's boss discovers that bracelet in her coat pocket at her house, she still reports to Mathnet, and gets falsely charged and punished for it by her boss. Conversely, I associate the alternate ending version of "Ghostly Footsteps" where Benny Pill, Pat's and George Frankly's undercover cop really arrests the lady who set Pat up twice and framed her for a missing gem too. Lastly, I can hear and imagine that eerie tune score being played during the "Mathnet" primetime credits version on PBS many years back.

    Could you possibly do a comparison? This is very different from the book which I don't think was ever even published by Golden Books or illustrated by Amye Rosenburg (Though the likelyhood of the latter may be higher)

      I've been trying to figure that out myself. But it wasn't until a few days ago when I finally did. The song is called "Dreamland" and it is composed by Paddy Kingsland: ruclips.net/video/eDN6xzx_bJc/видео.html

    Such an odd choice of music they chose for the end credits. It's like something out of Treehouse of Horror lol.

      Yeah. But come to think of it, that's also the same song (or at the very least, sound familiar to) that played when Mr. Jeremy-Fisher felt a water beetle tweak his galoshes by the toes and noticed a water rat before moving a way a bit and went fishing in this video below at 34:29 (meant for Tales of Beatrix Potter (1992 Family Home Entertainment VHS)).

      @@ZakWolf Thank you again for your kindness. To return the favor, I'll share something I have recently learned. I have identified two of the other AMP songs used in this video. They are called "Dreamland" composed by Paddy Kingsland (0:41-1:07), and "At Play" composed by Jim Lawless (3:48-4:11). They have just been listed on the Golden Book Video page on the AMP Music Cue wiki.
      Also, I want to share a list on the APM Music Cue wiki thats just been made recently for Show Me A Story Beatrix Potter Volume 1 and Volumes 2 and 3 as well: apmmusic.fandom.com/wiki/Show_Me_A_Story_Tales_Of_Beatrix_Potter_VHS_Series
