It was a Qantas ad on the TV, basically saying no matter who you are, or where you are in the world when you come to Australia, you're coming home even though you've never been here before. And 'welcome to Australia'. Qantas took the kids all over the world to film this ad. Seeya Rob
Nah it's about Australians listen to the lyrics " no matter how far I roam I still call Australia home " 🙄 it means no matter where you go Australia is always home 🇭🇲
Love this song. Always gives me goosebumps. It was written and preformed by Peter Allen. It’s a song about no matter where an Australian is around the world there’s always a longing for home. (And QANTAS can get you home of course). Peter Allen was a famous Australian singer/songwriter, musician and entertainer. FYI he was married to Liza Minnelli.
Hearing this played on the aircraft as you come into land, it brings tears to your eyes! I love you are picking up on the Aussie vibe, we look after our mates (the people around us)!
This was a commercial using the classic track I Still Call Australia Home, written by Aussie expatriate entertainer Peter Allen. Sadly, he died of AIDS in 1992. It's a beautiful song, incredibly patriotic and makes me cry every time.
Thanks to the music you play from Australia, I'm beginning to get a sense of our warmth as a nation. You are right when you say you would arrive and feel right at home. This country has so many great songs that say so much about who we are.
Peter Allen was an Aussie singer show man. He wrote “I still call Australia home”. He also wrote an amazing song about his grandfather who made horse saddles for a living. It’s called “Tenterfield Saddler ” he wrote and sang this song out of love and respect for his wonderful Grandad. I think it is by far the best of his songs. 🐎🇦🇺
As an Aussie, that Qantas commercial is absolutely iconic! Travelling home from wherever you’ve been, that advert is spine tingling. Love love love it!
I remember this song played on the plane as I flew over the Sydney opera house after living abroad for a year, and I cried like a baby. It was beautiful. No matter where we go, we come back home to Australia.
Yes it’s a commercial for Qantas. It was written by Peter Allen a famous singer/songwriter who lived overseas (he was married to Liza Minnelli for a bit) and it’s another song every Aussie knows and every time I hear it i feel a surge of love for my country which would welcome you as a mother would her child 💗
I still remember this ad and still enjoy listening to it. Of course there have been many renditions of this Peter Allen masterpiece. The children were from the Australian Girls Chior and the National Boys Chior. The ad first aired on the 10th of September 1998 during the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games. It has been one of the most successful advertising campaigns for Qantas. Note: The big rock at the end is the Kings Canyon in the Northern Territory. There were 220 chior children flown in by helicopter
This particular ad did first air in 1998, but there was an earlier one from 1987, and again in 1994 for the Canadian Commonwealth Games. My vocal coach performed for the 1994 one.
@@treadingtheboards2875 Absolutely correct, I actually didn't remember the earlier ads until going back through them after watching this, it just brought back memories. I guess this one had the biggest impact in my life due to my age at the time. Thank you for the reminder though
I've been to cities that never close down From New York to Rio and old London town But no matter how far Or how wide I roam I still call Australia home. I'm always travelin' And I love bein' free So I keep leavin' the sun and the sea But my heart lies waiting over the foam I still call Australia home. All the sons and daughters spinning 'round the world Away from their families and friends Ah, but as the world gets older and colder It's good to know where your journey ends. And someday we'll all be together once more When all the ships come back to the shore Then I realize something I've always known I still call Australia home. No matter how far Or how wide I roam I still call Australia home.

@D G just checked with my parents, they can’t remember what was and wasn’t covered by QANTAS. I was only 10 at the time and I guess whatever the cost my parents couldn’t justify them.

Same here. Both my sister and I got in, but my mother was a single parent and it was too expensive for her. Still remember they made us sing the national anthem for the audition
Funny story, my aunty was the producer (think it was producer) of this tv commercial. Also my Mum and her cousins used to sing back up for Peter Allen on the radio. Thanks for the blast from the past! ❤
Aussie that grew up with this ad, but I’ve been living in the US for 10 years. Don’t often get homesick but it’s guaranteed I will cry every time I see this commercial or hear this song
That was so cute - and the production so imaginative and slick. Strange thing is that I fly to Australia in 2 weeks time - flying Qantas from London - Directly to Darwin (16 hours flight) then onto Melbourne. Yes I think that Australia is a welcoming place - the people that I met there were very laid back and easy going - maybe you should try going there one day!
I remember coming into after our first trip to the States. When the plane turned around and lined up the fly into Sydney you get a real swelling up inside.I recall upon landing everyone clapped and cheered at being safely back home. It's such a great feeling that I'll never forget.
This song always brings a tear to my eye. Remember being on a Qantas flight as a very young 20 year old coming home from Europe and this song playing as we were landing. The flood of tears! Looking around the plane though I realised I wasn't the only one. That was 21 years ago. Look up the original song by Peter Allen, late, great Australian singer and song writer. Also look up other Qantas ads, nowhere near as great as this one, but still very emotional.
Australians are amongst the best traveled people in the world… you could walk into a bar in Timbuktu and go Aussie Aussie Aussie…. And there would be an answering OI…OI…OI back! It makes every Australian all warm and fuzzy!
My daughter was part of the “Australian girls choir” (the girls singing) and they did the Australian boys choir too. As an Australian this song always fills my heart with love. And yes we are welcoming and loving (most of us) xx

This ad came out while I (an Australian) lived overseas for over a decade, and I managed to catch it on trips home and ads. It never failed to bring me to tears and still does now, even though I am back home again.
I’m an Australian and I remember years ago I was leaving Thailand to come home to Sydney onboard a Qantas plane and as I stepped onto the plane to take our seat a stewardess, seeing my Aussie passport, said to me “welcome home”. My friends and I got all emotional and I’ve never forgotten it.
Love this ad. Qantas = Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services = an airline. Originally done by the late Peter Allen, Australian songwriter, singer, performer ( married to Liza Minelli for a while) This is like an Aussie anthem. Se beautiful Australian scenery too.
We Australians are sentimental about our major airline. We all love this ad because it reminds us of home when we are away, and arouses gratefulness when we are home. Using this song, a tender love letter to Australia, written by the late great Peter Allen brings a tear to the eye.
Omg ... My son was in the Australian Youth Choir here in Perth ... they recorded a CD here with Russel Morris & Daryl Cotton ... Such a memorable experience for all choir members being featured on a CD with such legendary Aussie artists..☺ Thank you for sharing this... xx
My African American friend from Cincinnati came with me to Adelaide and she fell in love with it and with our life, culture, diversity and acceptance. She said it was like I pulled back a curtain and showed her a whole new world and way of life she never could’ve imagined and wanted to move here
"Everybody is related..." we get a bit of that in the regional areas but we try to keep mixing up the gene pool 🤣 Honestly bro though get out here sometime, Jimmy Barnes is still playing concerts... you love so much Australian stuff now, you are made for this place. Like if you think we should crowdfund the man a plane (and concert) ticket 👍
Thank you for your lovely words about Australia. We are a welcoming bunch, with a lovely diverse nation of peoples & cultures. I hope one day you come to our shores & we can show you all the hospitality we'd love to give your lovely self.
It was a commercial and it always made me cry! I still call Australia Home, absolutely beautiful song. I think that was the Australian Children’s Choir
This is without question the greatest ad series in Australia. Spine tingles, hair shoots up on the intro before the choir even starts. Everyone associates Qantas with australia before this ad but cemented after, subconsciously everyone picks Qantas flights over anything else if prices are close.
From Wikipedia: ""I Still Call Australia Home" is a song written and performed by Peter Allen in 1980. In it, Allen sings of Australian expatriates' longing for home." Qantas has used it extensively in their advertising and, as you can see in that version, they've used what is essentially a classical cover. As an Australian I can tell you that it's good to see other places but then you come back here and realise that this really is where you belong, where you are at home. That doesn't mean everything about Australia is perfect. I would argue that as we've slid to the right politically we've also gone downhill in regard to human rights. Our record on the environment has not been great. So it's like we're trashing two of our greatest assets recently, our egalitarianism and our natural environment.
I’m a 36 yo male from Australia that has lived here my whole life and I cry every time I watch these ads it hits me when it get to the someday we’ll all be together once more verse

This is a sweet and heart tugging version of the late great composer, singer, dancer and showman Peter Allen. A larger than life super energetic talent. His version of this, his own song, is a real banger as is one of his other hit songs ' I Go To Rio. ' He would always set the audience on fire with his zest for live performance. It was contagious and the audiences loved to join in with his firecracker vibe.
My biggest memories of this song is watching the old Wallabies rugby games back in the day when qantas used to sponser them, always used to come on during half time ads etc. loved it then and love it now!
Yep, that’s a commercial for Our Qantas Airlines featuring the Australian Childrens’ Choir, and we all love it! And yes, they took them all around the world to film it.:). The Australian Girls’ Choir and Australian Boys’ Choir often sing at very major events and sometimes together as The Australian Childrens’ Choir. We have our differences, but at our core there is something about being Australian that is like being a part of a huge family. I once visited SF, Ca, and went out to Alcatraz. On shore the Alcatraz Park rangers(?) herded all visitors together to give an introduction and a little history of Alcatraz. One asked what countries people were from, with people putting up there hands for being from this country our that. Then he said to the crowd “Ah Australia. Did you know all Aussies wherever they are, anywhere in the world, no matter how big or small a crowd or on a street, or somewhere else can be can find each other easily. And asked 1 Aussie to demonstrate. So he did, and we found each other essily! It’s a call and response chant led by the first person to call it out loudly. The older “coooeee” is still there for the same reason, that helped find people in the bush etc, but younger generations mostly use the chant now. And every Aussie anywhere will join in.
Yes a commercial. One of my children was in that choir and they flew them all around the world filming it. Was epic. And yes there were over 60 children involved. They were treated like princes and princesses everywhere they went. Incredible. Was many years ago. My son is now in his mid 30’s with young children of his own.
I really like how you genuinely seem to love our beautiful country, and that you seem to ‘know us’, our way of life, and the kind of people we are, even though you’ve never been here. You really would feel “at home” if you came here. I think “I Still Call Australia Home” should be our nation anthem. I get goosebumps, and a bit teary, every time I hear it, especially when I’m overseas. Thankyou for appreciating this amazing country of ours. 🇦🇺🐨🇦🇺🦘🇦🇺

As an Aussie I can say this song holds a special place in the heart of any Australian. Whenever you hear it you can't help but stop what your doing and really listen and start appreciating everything we have and love about our country and yes it does make many an Aussie very emotional
I live in Japan, and no matter when I hear this song, I get emotional. I may live overseas but my heart always remains in Australia.
It was a Qantas ad on the TV, basically saying no matter who you are, or where you are in the world when you come to Australia, you're coming home even though you've never been here before. And 'welcome to Australia'. Qantas took the kids all over the world to film this ad. Seeya Rob
Oh wow that's beautiful thank you for this back story
Nah it's about Australians listen to the lyrics " no matter how far I roam I still call Australia home " 🙄 it means no matter where you go Australia is always home 🇭🇲
@@ThatSingerReactions written by an Aussie icon. Peter Allen wrote it to remind him of his grounding when overseas.
@@ThatSingerReactions and shipmate and I would sing this at 0300 or 0400 when on watch at sea when we were away, helped keep us awake.
Me too! I get emotional as I love our country so much. We are extremely lucky here.
Ditto
This song always gives me goosies. Us Aussies love to travel and see amazing places around the world, but there's no place like Australia 🥰
Thanks to the music you play from Australia, I'm beginning to get a sense of our warmth as a nation. You are right when you say you would arrive and feel right at home. This country has so many great songs that say so much about who we are.
Theres not much Australians like more than foreigners that like Australia. It gets us all giddey.
NOTHING! Beats the feeling an Australian feels, flying back home, and hearing this song.
As an Aussie, that Qantas commercial is absolutely iconic! Travelling home from wherever you’ve been, that advert is spine tingling.
Love love love it!
Hey, Aussie here. That song brings me to tears every time.
Early 2000s, flying back into Australia on Qantas and they'd fire this song up as we're landing. Cutting onions.
This was my favourite ad when I was a kid! It makes me cry every time!
We would all welcome you Nick with open arms 😀
Awww thank you :)
Absolutely 😊
I’m Australian this was released as an ad but quickly became iconic in our culture. I cry ever time I hear it. It’s amazing isn’t it!
I've been to cities that never close down
From New York to Rio and old London town
But no matter how far
Or how wide I roam
I still call Australia home.
I'm always travelin'
And I love bein' free
So I keep leavin' the sun and the sea
But my heart lies waiting over the foam
I still call Australia home.
All the sons and daughters spinning 'round the world
Away from their families and friends
Ah, but as the world gets older and colder
It's good to know where your journey ends.
And someday we'll all be together once more
When all the ships come back to the shore
Then I realize something I've always known
I still call Australia home.
No matter how far
Or how wide I roam
I still call Australia home.
This ad is like, peak nationalism for Australia. No one can watch this without crying.
Yep it’s a commercial and arguably the most epic one ever made. 35 years later and it’s still working. Not just a commercial but an Aussie icon.
Yeah I’ve always LOVED this commercial. It IS a bit of an anthem for us Aussies!
Every Aussie knows this song, brings a tear to our eyes when we hear this song & we're away from home. There's no place Australia.
definitely one of the best ever commercials ever made about Australia...never get sick of hearing it, unlike a lot of other commercials that just don't stack up.... glad ya liked it..
Best add ever made I reckon, still love it all these year's later. Just beautiful.
I actually got accepted into this choir in about '91 or '92... We couldn't afford the fees though.. 😩
Same thing happened to me in ‘99. My sister and I got accepted to be on the ad but we also couldn’t afford it. 👍👍
@@PeterAtkinson I would have thought at least Qantas footed the travel and accomodation bills? That’s quite shocking if they didn’t 😮
@D G just checked with my parents, they can’t remember what was and wasn’t covered by QANTAS. I was only 10 at the time and I guess whatever the cost my parents couldn’t justify them.
@@aries898 I did the Italy, Sth Africa, Thailand, China, NZ and Australian legs of the project. Can confirm we didn't get paid, but there were no costs to the families except for things like vaccinations, suitcases/personal effects and spending money. Incredible experience, and one I'm very grateful for to this day.
Same here. Both my sister and I got in, but my mother was a single parent and it was too expensive for her. Still remember they made us sing the national anthem for the audition
South Australian here! Every time I hear this song, especially Peter Allen’s I get full body goosebumps and teary 🥲 🇦🇺
Funny story, my aunty was the producer (think it was producer) of this tv commercial. Also my Mum and her cousins used to sing back up for Peter Allen on the radio.
Thanks for the blast from the past! ❤
It was a commercial for Qantas Nick. Soon to become a greeting to all from around the world.
One of THE BEST commercials ever produced. Brings a tear to my eye whenever I hear it.
Peter Allen wrote such a beautiful ode to his homeland.
Whenever I'm overseas, Qantas ads always make me cry
Home, another Aussie living overseas and i also cry every time i hear this song
Australians are amongst the best traveled people in the world… you could walk into a bar in Timbuktu and go Aussie Aussie Aussie…. And there would be an answering OI…OI…OI back!
It makes every Australian all warm and fuzzy!
My daughter was part of the “Australian girls choir” (the girls singing) and they did the Australian boys choir too. As an Australian this song always fills my heart with love.
And yes we are welcoming and loving (most of us) xx
Thankyou so much for sharing, I’d never seen the full length ad here in Aus, I was so moved, & particularly overwhelmed at the host’s honest reaction KEEP IT UP
We will welcome you any time.Your appreciation for australian music, especially Farnsy and Barnesy, don't go unnoticed😁Good love to you and your family 😁Steve
My gosh I love your comments about Australia! I am a proud Aussie, and you are so wonderful about our country.
“That’s a lot of kids… on a mountain” haha. Makes me tear up every time I hear this song. Gorgeous.
Goosebumps, every time you come home as an Aussie, I think of this song & it tears me up 🥲🇦🇺
This ad came out while I (an Australian) lived overseas for over a decade, and I managed to catch it on trips home and ads.
She said it was like I pulled back a curtain and showed her a whole new world and way of life she never could’ve imagined and wanted to move here
Still one of the most awesome advertisements.
Edit: nice work requesting this one Kate. 👍
I lived in New Zealand for a while but eventually came home to Australia. I've always loved this song, gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it
"Everybody is related..." we get a bit of that in the regional areas but we try to keep mixing up the gene pool 🤣 Honestly bro though get out here sometime, Jimmy Barnes is still playing concerts... you love so much Australian stuff now, you are made for this place. Like if you think we should crowdfund the man a plane (and concert) ticket 👍
🤣 Everybody is related got me 😂😂😂
@@LD-kl7hc Tasmania? 🤣😂
Thank you for your lovely words about Australia. We are a welcoming bunch, with a lovely diverse nation of peoples & cultures. You get the odd dickhead, but most of us believe in kindness & looking out for each other. I hope one day you come to our shores & we can show you all the hospitality we'd love to give your lovely self.
It was a commercial and it always made me cry! I still call Australia Home, absolutely beautiful song. I think that was the Australian Children’s Choir
It's a Qantas commercial about travelling and Qantas brining us home...
In it, Allen sings of Australian expatriates' longing for home."
Qantas has used it extensively in their advertising and, as you can see in that version, they've used what is essentially a classical cover.
This song always hits my heartstrings.
Happy to be back home in oz, its always emotional coming home.
I’m a 36 yo male from Australia that has lived here my whole life and I cry every time I watch these ads it hits me when it get to the someday we’ll all be together once more verse
Good luck figuring out all those wires Dominic! Yeh it’s a tv commercial for Qantas. This song was also sung by Hugh Jackman, Keith Urban, Nicole Kidman and Russel Crowe when Oprah Winfrey came to Australia! It’s a song every Aussie knows. First performed and written by Peter Allen in 1980.
Oh yes, now we need some Peter Allen reactions.
Oh wow that's amazing I was given this without any context lol
@@ThatSingerReactions Yeh gottoo do some peter allen, our Elton john in a way
@@ThatSingerReactions some people overseas I’ve spoken to think it was written for the commercial. It wasn’t. Peter Allen just wrote what was in his head and heart at the time. I still get teary and emotional every time I hear it and I’m home here in Australia.
This song holds a special place for any homesick Australian. Can’t lie, brings me to tears every time.
I am sitting in my lounge room in a tiny country Victorian town and this song makes me cry every time l hear it … Thank you Peter Allen for such a beautiful song !!
This song just gives me shivers. It makes me homesick when I leave. Such an amazing song.

My son in law was one of these kids! It was an amazing experience for him and this ad always gives me goosebumps.
This is one of the most beautiful odes to Australia and as Qantas is the national airline it really tugs at the heartstrings showing some of the highlights but the childrens choir voices are just angelic and yes it does make me teary when I hear it
We love thing song so did my dad.. he was a travelling man took us all to see the world family and friends ..We played this song at his funeral....it's such a great song does not matter who you are my dad was Italian migrated here ..he called Australia home.....there's been a few commericals and Qantas does amazing commerical reflects on our country and this song.....thanks for sharing brings a year to my eye.
you have discovered the spirit of our nation. God bless you
This song always gives me goosebumps & makes me feel warm & fuzzy inside. Also “You’re the Voice” by John Farnham ❤️🇦🇺
I love this, I remember watching this ad in 98 then 99, etc.. the song is one I love and makes me proud to be Aussie..
It times of crisis we come together and support one another like recently during the horrid floods...
That is the best Qantas commercial ever, based on Peter Allen’s song ”I still call Australia home”. Yes, you would be most welcome to come & visit us. Best wishes from Adelaide; South Australia🇦🇺💐
That was the Australian Youth Choir ! They are the most fantastic ads. The latest ones for 2022 are even better
This is Anthem from Qantas differently woke me up after a long long flight ✈️ and when I was flying from Germany 🇩🇪.
Back home 🏡 too Australia 🇦🇺 then you knew you’re back home . This song just touch’s our hearts 💕 thank you 🙏 for you’re reaction on this beautiful song which Peter Allan actually had written for another great reaction
It’s always iconic when I touched down in Sydney airport every years to see my friends and home....hearing this songs.... for 8 years back and forth during my teenager years.Tearing up... Cos I never get any enough PR points, to live in Australia again. Especially 3 years absent from returning due to pandemic.
I loved seeing this on tv every single time it came on!!
My other favourite song of his is Tenterfield Saddler
My biggest memories of this song is watching the old Wallabies rugby games back in the day when qantas used to sponser them, always used to come on during half time ads etc. loved it then and love it now!
This song and this particular video is ingrained in my mind I loved this song
"I feel like everybody is just related" - That would be Tasmania...
Hahaha…😂
The most iconic QANTAS ad ever. They hit a home run with this
Yep, that’s a commercial for Our Qantas Airlines featuring the Australian Childrens’ Choir, and we all love it!
Such a tear jerker this song. As an Australian this song brings to my eyes, did when Qantas ran it does now
Yes a commercial. One of my children was in that choir and they flew them all around the world filming it. Was epic. And yes there were over 60 children involved. They were treated like princes and princesses everywhere they went. Incredible. Was many years ago. My son is now in his mid 30’s with young children of his own.
You know you’re an honorary Aussie now, right 😊🐨
I really like how you genuinely seem to love our beautiful country, and that you seem to ‘know us’, our way of life, and the kind of people we are, even though you’ve never been here. You really would feel “at home” if you came here. I think “I Still Call Australia Home” should be our nation anthem. I get goosebumps, and a bit teary, every time I hear it, especially when I’m overseas. Thankyou for appreciating this amazing country of ours. 🇦🇺🐨🇦🇺🦘🇦🇺
