Good kits for beginners

- This is a subscriber requested video about which kits I would recommend for beginners and why. Please understand that this is strictly my opinion. I also would like to apologize for not recommending any car kits because I have no knowledge of what would or would not be good in that category.
Today, was my first day of scale modelling adventure,I started making T34 85 from Revell,I payed exactly 11€ euro, but building those tracks is bloody hard ! Wish me luck
One of the most important things is it should be something you want to build, whether it's the Cutty Sark or the Millennium Falcon, a supermarine spitfire or an F-16, a mark III male landship or a T-90 tank. Just let it be something you can afford and something you love.
about the lack of swastikas.. Swastikas are illegal in Germany, so I'd always assumed that kit manufacturers don't want to have to make a different kit just for the German market (though that would only mean a different decal set).
Im sure you can download tiny Stickers
hobbyboss have swasikas in 2 part decals. they're not present on the box illustration though , normally a black diamond
Some tamiya kits have swastikas, like the 1/72 fw190a3 from their warbird series, which comes with 4.
Commies killed 100 million and still counting, but red stars, hammers & sickles etc are halal
But it's not historical correct!
Agreed.. :) There's only one downside to the Tamiya 1/72 scale kits, as far as beginners are concerned.. they're not cheap! I'd like to add the 1/72 Revell P-47 D and M kits, they go together a treat and are cheap, so perfect for beginners.. :) That's why I love them, myself, I'm building one right now.. using after market decals for a post-war Iranian Air Force version...
Rob BasicModelling in hobbycraft they are selling 1/35 kits for £10
How Much Would These Be At A Local Hobby Store?
PokeCollector in Britain they usually sell for 10 pounds or cheaper
@@highlightbuzz3127 tamiya waterline 1/700
Thanks for all the great reviews of those kits!!!
This video is still relevant today as I am gonna try and take up this hobby see if I'm any good at it. Iv ordered the airfix 1:72 hawker hurricane and some starter supplies and hope to see it pan out into something great. Thanks for taking the time to make this video
Great video and thank you for replying to the request mate :) I've put the panzer 3 and 1.48 Messerschmitt at the top of my next kits to buy list. I think the airfix 1.72 kits are great for beginners, I also plan on keeping doing these smaller kits even when I become more advanced as I think they're a great stop gap between bigger builds. Thanks again :)
Thanks very helpful after 50 years away from the hobby, cheers.
This vid is ideal to watch for those that want to start the hobby, and because of the really good features for the quality of the kits, it makes them a lot easier for them to maintain their skills so therefore they can get away from it easily, also personally the 1/72 spitfire from airfix would also be a really good start as well.
Thank you very much for the kind words and yes I could not agree more the Airfix new tool 1/72 kits are superb for beginners.
I guess I am kinda randomly asking but does anyone know a good site to stream new series online?
@Emery Marcus I dunno try flixportal. you can find it by googling:P -zahir
@Zahir August thanks, I went there and it seems like a nice service :D Appreciate it!!
@Emery Marcus Happy to help :)
Tamiya's 1:35th scale panzer II is about the simplest and easiest kit in existence to build...
I ruined a good number of kits in my youth but in my fourth decade of sentient existence I started back up with very small cheap kits (1/100 aircraft, 1/72-1/48 land vehicles, armour etc.) to hone my skills then slowly move up to the ones that really interest me. I don't like to stick with one particular type of model, I mix it up with mobile artllery, aircraft, miniatures, I'm really starting to love the Tamiya 1/48 scale armour and 1/72 scale warbirds collection: the latter being an excellent value for Tamiya level precision.
Those Airdix 109s... they r amazing... the fit is perfect.. your right... the 109 was welded on the top and a line was seen on top and bottom... the tamyia SDKFZ is also a very good and fun kit... with tamyia armour is all about building and painting... all fun... they r fast (those at least are) and a lot of fun to build
Thanks for stopping by Alex yes I could not agree more!
AlexModeling I am watching your videos
I have a 109 g6 and it just arrived and there's more flash than I've ever seen on an airfix kit b4... Not that there's much anyway
Thanks for sharing Andy! Your numbers are really taking off! :)
I am not sure why either Guido! I am very grateful for everyone's support especially yours!
Great list of Kits! I think the only thing that I may have added to the list of Good beginner aircraft is the 1/72 scale Academy Kits. I have personally built a few of them and love the way they go together. Plus in most kits come with a 1/72 vehicle so you get 2 for the price of 1. Plus the detail is amazing on the kits.
You are welcome. Thank you for stopping by and watching and commenting.
There is the initial decision as to whether you wish to simply build a representative kit, perhaps rather than a scale replica. Some of the newer Revell seem to be in more pieces than you'd assume necessarily and the new Airfix, fine that they are, can be a challenge. But Tamiya armour is always 'do-able' and for beginners the Hobby-Boss kits are to my mind very good for beginners in terms of price, ease of assembly and practising your painting skills.
I'm not a beginner but I'm stuck on what to buy thanks for the video
those are indeed great beginner kits, you have my full approval :) the best tank model to start with is most likely the tamiya panzer II F because it is so damn cheap.
Thank you Michael yes I agree with that one I just don't have one. I have the newer Pz.Kpfw. II model from Tamiya
haha! my first kit was the Panzer II F! :)
TacticalJackalope Someone bought the Stug III Ausf G Fruhe Version and and heard that it was pretty high priced, especially for a beginner. And yes german airplanes are in my opinion are beautiful.
That is why I always recommend that people buy these kits from an Asian dealer. Much like the Hong Kong or Tokyo shops I buy from. I bought this example for about $25
TacticalJackalope from what I've seen the shipping is like 11 bucks but the prices aren't bad.
Great video! Stay safe and God bless!
I believe that these videos are very useful to any one that wants to start scale modelling, and the kits you recommend are suitable for a novice modeler.
Thank you Alexander I hope you well!
Haha great vid! As one of my first kits, I received the Revell 1/48 PT-17 but it was the old tool version. Absolutely HORRIBLE! I don't know how the new tool is, or if there is one (I'm pretty certain though) but don't buy the old one. Especially for a beginner.
Thanks I don't know what kit to buy my brother for Christmas as his first model he likes tanks any ideas?
I ended up building 2 ships the Iowa and Midway, I'm quite new to building this stuff so I havent painted them nor put the flags and stickers that go with it
I am a beginner and i have built 3 kits. The first one was the tamiya 1/48 me-262 A-1a than for christmas i got an older kit hawk 1/72 scale bf-109g and spitfire mk9. Not a lot of detail on it. And also an airfix he-111 p-2 1/72. The he-111 was easier that the me-262. I am I'm working in the monogram (now know as revell) 59 Cadillac eldorado.
Nice video !
German WW2 aircraft are not a good choice for beginners. Most of them have ludicrously difficult paint schemes, many simple cannot be done properly without airbrush (and a good one, too). It's a much better idea to get e.g. some Soviet WW2 airplane (most are painted with only two colors - olive for top and blue for bottom). Or some US Navy aircraft which come in one or two shades of blue.
Bare metal planes are also a no-no, since doing a good paintjob with those also requires some practice.
My first kit (built as an adult, properly, with painting etc) was 1:72 F-117A Nighthawk (I'm more into modern stuff). Which is basically all black - it's hard to imagine a more simple paint scheme.
In general, for a first kit, choose something small, with low number of parts and easy paint scheme. You want to build armor in 1:35 scale? Don't start with King Tiger, get a Kubelwagen or something like this. Forget about building a B-17 Flying Fortress for a while, get yourself a P-40 Warhawk first.
But get a good quality kit, from respected manufacturer. Nothing will put you off the hobby like some crap kit where nothing fits, instructions are unclear or non-existent. Or only in Japanese :P
Very nice video mate. May I ask which camera are you using?
Cheers
Alex
So i want to start to get into making models and im not sure what i need to get started.
Nice video buddy ! keep them coming !
You bet Norm! How have you been? I haven't seen a new vid from you in a while come to think of it. I always love your videos btw.
Should be one soon buddy! as you know...Video making takes away from Bench time ! Editing and Compiling... but I have one due shortly for sure !
You won't want to miss it ! LOL
german colour patterns are always difficult.
I also concur about the 90's Tamiya kits. Super easy builds.
Thank you Adam how are your projects going?
very slowly moving forward on the Dangerous Cats jagdpanther. Been very busy at work.
The problem with me AS a befinner is What kits have paint and What kind of paint or spray or whatecer I need.
So.. what is the BEST BEST scale for beginners?
im the only one in 2020 currently watching this
Nope
Nope i got bored and started buying model kits since june because i was bored
Nope
Nope I'm just looking for good kits to get as I'm semi new but have done a few models (9)
no and please dont say things like this
I am thinking about the Tamiya version
Yeah, Tamiya has such a great fit!
for aircraft id suggest a hobbyboss he-162 salamander
Thanks for the video it really helped me as I am a beginner i am hesitating about purchasing the Messerschmitt, do you think that is a good idea?
Which one? The larger Airfix kit or the Tamiya 1/72 scale one both are excellent choices for beginners.
I want to start my model kit hobby with these kits and one day getting some gunpla dioramas
@@TacticalJackalope the Airfix 1/72 E3 is a gorgeous little kit.
Goes together easily, even features a rudimentary engine
I'm thinking of buying the tamayi Matilda III/IV I've never build a kit before is that a good idea or no?
Most of the Tamiya kits are relatively straight forward but if you have not built a kit before I suggest you start with something smaller like their old Panzer II F/G kit.
I gotta admit I almost inhaled some pepsi when you mentioned the Dragon Stug, but then I noticed it's not the 1/35 scale one that costs like 50 euros. Dragon's rubber band tracks are called DS tracks.
I've been thinking about buying a Revell 1/72nd scale Me 262 from my local supermarket since they only cost about...6 euros, I think, and I want to build one in any scale really, but then 1/72nd scale feels a bit...small. and it's Revell.
For my two cents on starter sets, I'd say any of the Tamiya's early 1/35th scale armor kits, I've recently built their Panzer IV Ausf. D, Walker Bulldog and a T-34 ChTZ and they cost around 10-15 euros. Really great value even with the motorization holes.
Nice video!
No,I would never recommend one of their full size 1/35 kits for a beginner! That's what those tracks are called I don't believe I forgot...Dragon Styrene or DS.
TacticalJackalope
Right, DS comes from Dragon Styrene, I should have known!
And I know, I built their Stug IV W/ Zimmerit as my second or third kit ever and I actually got nauseous during the build. Not very fun at all.
Good Kits for Beginners I've got well over 150 kits and with those kits I have got over 74 Airfix kits, I know about WW2 Aircraft.
That's great! Thank you for stopping by!
Graham Stobbs I just fully assembled my first kit, which is a Ban Dai Star Wars 1/48th scale AT-ST. I love history and WW2/1, have any recommendations for some armor?
I'd also add in any HG Gunpla kit
I paint with brushes so I'm kinda skeered of aircraft larger than 1/72, I just cannot justify the expenditure a decent airbrush involves and there is not a lot of info out there on how to paint large surfaces well without the assistance of air.
I’m just worried about painting them, is it hard? And is it ok to use acrylics?
Most model paints are acrylic
I got my first one it was a flocke wulf
I gived to try
Just found this - and subbed.
Strange hearing you mention you're close to 700 subscribers and now you have almost 11k.
Isn't the omission of the Swastikas so they can be sold in Germany - where the Swastika symbol is banned and not anything to do with being politically correct?
Good starter kits shown for beginners.
really tks
I have never ever built a model plane. Not even a model car. For a model aircraft, what or where would be a good section or part of the aircraft that would be the best start off point
Hi there, I've been watching a few vids over the past few weeks and from what I can discern, most guys start off with the cockpit, and I do believe I heard one say "as always, we start off with the cockpit".
Hope that helps buddy ?
regards,
Paz.
PS. take a look at Scale-a-tons' or PLASMOS' vids
I would recommend some kits from zvezda ,pathway are basically the Russian version of tamiya they are often looked down upon because their 1/100 kits which are horrible the kit I would recommend is the 1/35 t 34 because you dont need to fill in gaps and there’s no sanding also it’s a very easy kit
Number 2 Panzer III built it great kit
Im a kid and i love ww1 or ww2 plane
I am a REAL BEGINNER with zero idea or experiences....Where can I buy them?
At a hobby store either online or brick and mortar.
1 / 32nd. scale is best for me....big parts...big model.......easier to work with !.....tho I WILL say, I should have chosen 1 / 48 so that I can get more models on display !...............................too late now tho because I refuse to mix sizes !
wish model kits weren't just military and Gundam
Try czech Směr it is very cheap and easy
Ships maybe
1/700 USS Alabama by Trumpeter was my first ship, its a bit complex and pricey but a good starter build
Polikarpov I 16 academy is good very easy
Personally I don’t like anything 1/72 and smaller
is it just me or is his hand shaking a lot
Dragon kits are too expensive for beginners.
jklkjk
Lol
