I think you are my favorite mini painter. Your style is clearly influenced by Frazetta and sword and sorcery. It's gorgeous. Thank you.

I'm honored, thank you! That era of art and in particular, Frazetta, found me at an early age.

Easily the most inspiring painter. Thank you for all the content.
Whenever I feel like I hit a rut I watch a Sam Lenz video (or on Insta) and I get motivated to paint!

I've never seen an example of feathering or heard it explained in a way that I could grasp. You have done it Sam! 🐐

I’ve been going back to this one. I love your demo on the black cardboard - it is really helpful for me, as it has helped me connect some things I’ve learned about water control in working with watercolour to the way I approach mini painting. I haven’t been punished noticeably by it when I do acrylics on canvas or paper, but you’ve helped me understand how to solve some issues when I paint minis.
I need to really dial up my focus on minis being absolutely non-absorbent, which seems really obvious, but I think because I’ve spent so many hours with watercolours, my instincts are more skewed than I realised before watching this.
I thank you, Horse Lord, for this important insight.

Super helpful video, thanks Sam! Another thing I have always struggled with is understanding where to place highlights on a model, understanding the volumes etc. Any videos you could make on that topic would be great to see!

I do not normally leave comments but I felt I had to say how helpful this video was. The camera angle and your description and teaching style was the most effective I've ever seen on RUclips. Thank you for this video it has helped me with motivation issues I've had with my painting

Great explanation. I also like that you show that you don't necessarily need to use a tiny brush. I think people make painting harder on themselves because they use too small of a brush.

Another one?? Your blending tutorials are probably the best around youtube! :D
THe yellow paint in the black plastic card is a reaaaally good way of showing us how to do it!
However, the part of you applying the yellow on the miniature was veeeery difficult to see on the video. The transitions are not really clear, probably because it is such a bright color. Unfortunate.
But I'll be coming back to this video and definitely getting some plastic card to practice technique on!
    Thank you Master!

Sam, love your videos! I’ve been painting for about 8 years. I’m really hit and miss on selling the nmn effect on curved surfaces….like a scythe or an axe or large armor pieces. I think my light placement is off or the distribution isn’t right. Can you do a deep dive on this subject?
My blends are good and I have the contrast there. I even do pretty good edge highlights and I distribute small volumes of dents with edge highlights to help with mind confusion. The effect just isn’t there.
I can do swords and straight surfaces pretty convincingly….but curves are a pain. Please help.
