- Cooper Howard's story revealed much about the world at large, and how the movers have been shaping this future for centuries. It felt only right to start with him in the first of this three part series where we look at each character's storyline individually and speculate about what comes next. My theory is that Coop doesn't actually need those drugs to keep from becoming feral. He's just addicted. The fact that he still has a purpose in life is what's really keeping him from turning.
Think about the ghoul who was on the submarine in Fallout 4. He surely wold have run out of drugs after 200 years and he wasn't feral.
Oh may, I love this!!
Maybe he got conned into believing they keep him from turning feral.
The series has NEVER been consistent on ghouls but… Billie and Raul seem to confirm this! Their family bond drives them forward towards their goals past the point where others usually would succumb to feralization. Billie didn’t use food, water or even oxygen for those 200 years, he just waited until someone let him out so he could go home to his family who’ve been waiting for him since he left 😭
@@jimcalhoun361 if he got conned so did Dom Pedro because he hooked up Cooper to an IV for years when he kept him prisoner
@@healgoth It would not be the first time that multiple people fell for the same con
Goggins was made for this role. He's absolutely superb as Cooper Howard and he fits in so well with the Fallout universe. As a lifelong Fallout fan I'm grateful for a good series and I cannot wait for the next!!!
I don't think I would've given this show a chance if Goggins didn't have a major role in it.
I've never played the games but I found myself pleasantly surprised with how charming this universe is.
It is a wonderful timeline and I hope the show is given access to explore more!
You’re missing out
Same with me. 😊 I just downloaded the game yesterday. Suddenly I felt some part of my life missing in past decade.
I've thought that a person without game background wouldn't enjoy this series. Glad you like it. :)
No kidding…… Not even Grim Dark !!
I totally believe that Cooper was near Bakersfield when the bombs dropped.
Him and His Daughter flead and were intercepted by a vault tech agent who takes his daughter to his ex wife Barbara and leaves him for dead. He in turn tried to get to his vault in Bakersfield, (where he wanted to move to) where Vault 12 is, which Barbara and Vault Tec made sure never closed.
There is also a scene where he says "like ol Set", who was the overseer of vault 12.
That would make alot of sense
What if his daughter on doomsday was a synth
He was saying that Max drives the suit like a shopping cart, not that a suit of power armor is like driving a shopping cart. It's an insult. Max wasn't trained to use it, so it makes sense he would be essentially fumbling his way around.
That's one of the things I didn't like about Fallouts 4 and 76. In the previous games, you had to be trained how to use power armor, but these two games... you just hop right in and bam, you're an expert.
@@jamesanthony8438 you also served in the 2nd battalion of the 108th infantry division in Anchorage so you probably wore power armor before and possibly wear it better than some of the brotherhood paladins from experience alone
@@Pheg320 That makes sense as far as fallout 4, but what's the excuse for 76?
@@john236613 76 gay and I don't play it
@@Pheg320 true
She's is with the Enclave for sure. They must have special vaults. She is probably with the president's vault.
You're forgetting the very first part. He was born to Todd Howard and his wife in 2025.
😂
I'm so into this franchise now. I kinda slept on the games but the Lore tickles me just the right way. Would love to see more!
Dude, the lore is absolutely worth spending some time just reading highlights of the Fallout Timeline on the wiki. It gets wild.
That’s awesome you’re interested now, but can I ask, why you slept on the games? New Vegas was a huge part of my childhood so I’m just curious why, either way, it’s awesome you’re involved now!
@@Rg-kp4nw Super strict parents. Got me my first console in my 20s. I still only play casually cause I'm obsessed with books and movies😅
Check out the Shoddycast Storyteller series
I remember when I was first tickled by fallout as a young boy… wait
10:59 it’s more likely that he began acting before he entered the service; historically, many famous actors served in WWII, and to a lesser extent, in Korea; it’s what was expected from men in the 40-50’s, and since the FO USA closely mimics 50-60’s US culture…irl stars of the era who didn’t serve, like John Wayne, did everything they could to keep their lack of veteran status out of the public’s mind…and Cooper having been an actual cowboy, a talented working actor, and a war veteran would probably have sky-rocketed him to fame…
To back up your statement, Elvis Presley was drafted into service in the Army from 58-60. He didn't fight in any wars, but he was stationed in West Germany.
Clark gable is another great example.
Jimmy Stewart
I hope we get more Cooper flashbacks in season 2. Like, i would find it cool if Cooper was also a famous war-hero, like that of Audie Murphy or John Basilone of ww2, and that helped his career in Hollywood. Show insight on how he became an actor if he was previously a ranch hand.
yeah I was thinking they got inspiration from Audie Murphys story
If a company describes themselves as a "family".. run
love how far they push this character
Truly, it’s all about seeing his personal code pushed!
No, maximus uses the power armour like pushing a shopping cart because he didn't read the manual or get trained in how to use it.
Love the Vault Boy x Earthbound mashup. Phenomenal video, really enjoyed learning about Vault 12.
Haha, glad you liked that 😁
One thing Walton Goggins does while acting in character is turn up the southern accent when he's ghoulified. I actually think this would make sense, especially if he came from a cowboy background, he likely had a stronger accent when he was young but toned it down while living and working in Hollywood (Mirroring Walton Goggins himself). You can really notice it on the "S" sounds, coming across more like "Sh"s.
I think the S to Sh thing comes from the dental retainers he's wearing over his own teeth
The prosthetics are ridiculously beautiful
Because of his age and his clear fame I think that he was in the Marines for longer than 4 years. He could have already been in way before the war….and then became an instructor or DI….when the first version of the armor came out….Thats why he made the “basic” comment. And then volunteered to go down range to fight in Alaska. Just a thought.
Was thinking the same thing.
remember, Doomsday is Saturday, October 23, 2077. A saturday morning kid's birthday party, the nukes start hitting early that morning, by 10a-11a LA is hit.
You did an amazing job on this, plus the research you put into this was A-MAZING!
I think cooper went to the vault with his daughter but was not let in, due to the divorce. He hid enough to survive the blast but was irradiated into a ghoul. I can’t wait for season 2.
This is a great video concept. Please keep them coming!!
I have a question that I can’t seem to find my answer, unless it’s actually quite simple.. was The Ghoul alive and roaming the wasteland during throughly the video games timelines?
Even though he doesn’t appear in the games, does this mean he was still walking during them though?
This kind of breakdown brought back those Westworld days watching your stuff. Great job man, cant wait for Lucy and Maximus
Very well researched with strong support throughout. This data is valuable for us TTRPG players of the game! Nice work. Thank you for your time and effort with this endeavor
cooper howard reminds me so much of william from westworld, love him
Actually, true. They even made the same scene, but with Cooper shooting someone in a room and then putting on black hat
Wait just noticed he had a white hat at the start
Considering one of the writers worked on the show it's not a big surprise
omg i thought the same thing i miss westworld 😢
Just realized the cowboy outfit he has on for the movie is vault tec colors meaning it vault tech pushing for propaganda
Vault Tec based the vault uniforms off a costume he wore in one of his big movies.
Great video! Great theories!
Great vid did the best filling in i didn't put together of any video yet
Oh, it is so good to hear you theory craft!
Thank you, Erni3K 🙏
Very deep and thorough analysis! 👍🏻
Note: REPCONN was bought out by RobCo before the bombs dropped as per Fallout New Vegas
Oh great note here!!
the best notifications are HaxDogma upload ones! 🎉
Ayyyy, thank you brother!
He probably got her to a vault and wasn’t allowed in himself.
Your investigation seems to be complete!!!
Given power armor is like a personal tank, and that not all soldiers use it, they wouldn't teach you how to use it in basic, that'd be in AIT, Advanced Individual Training, though given the nature of it I think it'd probably be more likely they'd combine basic + AIT like they do with OSUT in the Army for M1 Abrams units, you stay with the same group of individuals to train with the entire time and usually deploy with them. We don't really know though, but, the point I'm trying, and failing to make is, EVERYONE goes to basic, they aren't training EVERYONE on T-45, that'd be a waste of time, so you move that to a MOS specific training course, like your AIT.
Crazy theory, Barb is from the vault that built Shady Sands, vault 15. Max is Cooper’s great, great, whatever grandson. Hank blowing up Shady Sands killed Lucy’s mom, Max’s Mom, and Cooper’s lineage making him the big bad for all three protagonists.
Terrific video. The only video that I have found that makes justice to this amazing first season
Ayyyy, thank you so much!
at the end of the series Cooper what looking for his Family which means they made it.. one plot twist i think that most people miss... cooper didnt join them not in protest but he exchanged himself for his Dog
Haven't been this excited for upcoming seasons since Game of Thrones. Loved everything about season 1. The attention to details, acting and story are so well done and enough mystery to keep you craving more.
Your speculation of barb and fault tech having a long term plan to create the face of their ad campaign for the end of the world is fascinating. Wonder if after 200 years whether or not the goul has become aware of that mindfuck.
The Giddyup Buttercup lawsuit was brought by the creator of Atomotoys after the factory was converted from making toys to making weapons. Check Fallout 3 lore regarding Atomatoys - it's pretty in-depth.
Anyone think he’s the mysterious stranger
Hearing Cooper Howard talk about the T-45s and how bad they were really makes you respect Lyons brotherhood more as they held their own against countless super mutant hordes and the enclave with t-45
IF we go with the theory that Vault-Tec arranges marriages (as in the vaults) then I can see that Barb was told to go after Coop and bring him into the "family". Coop aka The Ghould always gave me Outlaw Josey Wales vibes.
Can’t wait for the Severance breakdown!
Great video
amazing work and realy and nice format for telling the story
Thank you Namen!
Excellent recap of Cooper
Cooper Howard being the vault boy was cool to me
Truly such a great reveal!
This is a big day today, and this was a great bump to this already amazing day.
Glad I could add to your day friend 😁
This is a great analysis.
I've not looked at ypir channel but I bet its pretty lit.
You've a great eye for details
I think it’s pretty cool haha
Thank you Friendly!
The date at time stamp 17:45 looks like a M on the first word a J on the second and then 4 and the last digits look like 77. My idea is it says Monday January 4, 2077.
Would that date work out at all??
February 4th, but you're right
it says january, trust me
im so glad im finding videos with deeper analysis for this show!
I know it’s alternate history but I can’t believe that pre-nuclear apocalypse 2077 still looks like the 1950’s
It's mainly because the fallout series was designed after visions of the future in the 1950s (basically the Jetsons). The fallout devs basically took the aesthetic of it and basically corrupted it into what it would look like in a mad max-esque post apocalyptic wasteland. So that's why everything looks like the 50s, because it's meant to be the future as imagined by people from the 50s.
@@boxylemons7961 if it’s down to a narrative choice, it is what it is; but it’s hard to imagine society/culture stagnating for over 100 years w/o some sort of explanation. Like maybe their version of the Gilded Age was 100 years late
@@AzureRook one of the main divergences in the FO universe to our own is transistors did not became as popular, with vacuum tubes continuing to be the dominant building block of electronics into the 21st century, the term "chip" typically (but not always) refers to processing units using vacuum tubes, such as the water chip
@@healgoth still, it’s not like advancements in technology was responsible all the cultural changes from the 50’s to 70’s; you’d figure at least the music would evolve in line w/ real world history
Oh yes! I love that you’re making videos about this show!
Her line about him going to war and her waiting is so selfish. Did she think he was partying during war. Oh no she's sitting at home and he's facing bullets. What a self centered woman
Yea I really want to know more about it her story arc. For her to be that high up she must have been working for them for a long time, probably the whole time he was at war.
You stole my heart with your intro 😝 this is glorious, you are glorious, enjoying overthinking this Amazon show about a video game 😂
Aweee, thank you so much!! Just subscribed to you as well, Lindsay. :D
Power Armor training would be more likely reserved for branch and specialty training subsequent to basic training ... cavalry, infantry, 75th RR, SF, etc.
17:45 For the Capital Post date, I think it says "Morning, January 4 2077" with the G and Y being capitalized but pushed into a lowercase format to not break the perceived underline. You have to remember back in the days when Newspapers were king, the big ones would print Morning, Noon and Late/Evening editions. Since it takes time to transport newspapers across the country, it makes sense that a Morning Edition of the Capital Post wouldn't be sold in California until mid-late afternoon, maybe early evening.
Keep up the good work! 👍 Idk how this only has 161 likes
Thank you friend 🙏
Came across the ghoul on accident watching a few shorts now just watched this entire video 😂🎉❤ might have to download this. Seems good
The whole meeting of the CEOs had a very strong Dr. Strangelove vibe. It makes Fallout kind of a sequel.
I'm estimating Thursday, September 16th, 2077 for the date that is on that newspaper. I could clearly see the 77 in 2077
Vaultec being behind coopers success the whole time is mad interesting i hope they go further on that
Interested to know how much time you put into this, beautifully done. 👏
I love the variety of different companies of Vault Tech
Fantastic video mate. This is definitely a second watcher as well. Very well done 👏
Thank you so much, glad people are enjoying it 🔥
We've already seen "good vaults" several times in lore. They're called "control vaults," and they don't have experiments, unlike the other vaults. There are only about 13-17 control vaults across the entirety of the US.
I think you’re underestimating the scope of this story. It’s not about being in a control vault, it’s about ending the world to have a life better than the one that currently existed. That’s the good vault we have yet to see 🔥
But this is true, there were a good number of control vaults used!
@@HaxDogma I'm just a lore autist who's not big into looking for hidden or double meanings, so "good vault" just means "vault with no experiments" to me.
@nodaerT felt brother! I appreciate your perspective 😁
@HaxDogma And I appreciate your responding brother! I really enjoyed your analysis of my new favorite onscreen cowpoke. I hope to see you grow.🙏
when you zoomed in on the newspaper you can see the last digit is a 7
Interesting , Thank You for the reminder of how much I missed
Watching Now so Far So good and lookin forward 2 Severance that show was made for u brother lol
Hell yeah man, Severance is one of the best ❤️🔥
Mark my words the ghoul gonna end up bein the mysterious stranger
It adds up
At 21:05 …..it looks like on the map there is possibly 1 vault in Canada and one in Mexico as well
I heard that one of VA for F4 said that they're might be a Fallout 5 in the works
Baby Ruth = Candy Bar
Babe Ruth = Baseball Player
Baby Ruth was the infant version of Babe Ruth, lesser known fun fact!
Goggins has done such an amazing job with this character. Just 10/10 acting chops. I have always thought he was underated ever since i saw him in major league 3 back to the minors (the best major league movie btw).
Bravo 👏
@38:59 its also possible ,his daughter is dead, he never got her to a vault, and he has forgotten, blanked out the truth as its is too painful to remember.
Oh snap, this would be pretty great too!
Really wonder if we going to get a scene like that, he finally tracks his wife down, after asking her about his where his daughter is, she reply's, she was never with me, she was with you at the time the bombs fell?..truth dawns on cooper@@HaxDogma
Finally someone calling him by his name instead of calling him "the ghoul" it's the same as calling maximus " the black guy" sounds stupid.
Not really... Cooper is pre bombs. The ghoul is post bombs.
The alternate name distinguishes and separates the two. As they are VASTLY different characters.
There is a reason why his story in episode 1 was titled The Ghoul.
It's just the good the bad and the ugly to represent different play styles.
I agree I think the point of ghouls are to be a proxy for disability so it is like missing the point to just call him that
Yeah it's really stupid. It would be like calling the protagonist of the games "The Chosen One" or "The Lone Wonderer" or "The Courier", that would never work.
@@MagickalDistruction there’s plenty of other ghouls out there, only one of them is THE Ghoul though…
There’s a bunch of couriers, sole survivors and vault dwellers in the series but only the player ever gets to be The Courier, The Sole Survivor or The Vault Dweller though… there’s really only one of them that’s actually important to the plot so it gets a special title
Also don’t look too deeply for a parallel because it’s its own thing, it may take inspiration from neurological disorders or chemical addictions and whatever else but ghoulification is just what happens to the poor souls unfortunate enough to actually live through immense nuclear radiation instead of dying to it,
TLDR; ghouls are vessels for all kinds of stories (racism, found family, conquest, civilization building, etc.) it’s not a 1:1 of any one thing that exists on earth so it can act as a representation of any number of issues, Cooper is just representing himself not any of the other ghouls seen in the series who don’t have the distinction of being The (our) Ghoul
The world of fallout does not have snowflakes. By being called that, it is more like he is “The Goul” and not just the goul. Like THE GOUL. I LOVE being THE COURIER.
When you do Maxium. A theory I read sounds interesting is Dane potentially being a double agent or has ulterior motives considering how they manipulate Maximus it seems to Knighthood
Oh interesting!
@@HaxDogma A lot of the stuff they do by letting Maximus be sent into the wild, knighting him, showing him the power armour could be read as Dane twisting the person they want into power. Wither they are doing it for their own plan or working for another group. It's interesting
He could have been doing movies possibly right before the war.
I just hope we get some flash backs in future seasons showing Howard behind the scenes of fallout 1 and 2. Maybe he was friends of herold or was in necropolis when the master came. Or he helped protect new Reno from enclave while the chosen one invaded the oil rig end that scene with the enclave retreating after the oil rig blows up. Maybe he just gets in a gunfight with Frank and survives
Love how they just change harward Coopers cowboy and just switched it to Cooper Howard same life and movies he's fallouts Howard cooper
I assume the "good vault" means one of the control vaults, where no experiments were being conducted. Since early on Vault Tec did plan out which vaults get experimented on and which were the control vaults, as in vualts that recevie no special treatment in an experiment, and exist as a means to compare to.
What a welllll thought out video boss!
"one of the good vaults" probably means the control vaults
This was better than the actual show. I tried watching it but I can’t do the silly humor. Great job
Appreciate that, you weren’t a fan of Goosy?! 😹
I've noticed that many people seem to overlook the character of Barb in Episode 2. In this episode, there's an older woman named Ma John with an assistant who smokes all the time and is referred to as Barb or Barv. This has led me to think maybe this Barb might actually be the same Barb who is Cooper's wife.
Given that Barb worked for Vault-Tec and had a significant role in their operations, it makes sense that she could have adopted a new identity. The hints are subtle, but considering the series' tendency to drop clues and create twists, it wouldn't be surprising if this turned out to be a major reveal later on.
Has anyone else picked up on this, or am I reading too much into it? I think it's worth discussing as it might explain some of the gaps in the storyline regarding Barb's whereabouts.
I’m glad Goggins is getting a cool lead role like this. He’s made for this kinda role. Glad it’s not as the villain this time even though they spun it as such at the beginning until you see more of his backstory. I wish they would’ve shown what happened when he rode off with his daughter on that horse. I’ve never played the games but now kinda wish I had.
This is something I noticed when i watched the show but when Barb mentioned how hard she was working to get them in a 'good vault', Cooper kinda got offended, like his money and/or status wouldn't be enough to get them into a good one, obviously not knowing that 'good' meant 'control'. She obviously couldn't tell him that there were literal vaults made just to screw with people, like the one man, a box of puppets vault. She was hell bent, quite literally in the grand scheme of things, to make sure they wouldn't be subjected to horrible experimentation.
Hax orange again from your guild. Great job on the video. You caught a lot of little Easter eggs I didn’t notice the first time watching the show. Fantastic job on the video. By the way. We all miss ya at glorious purpose, and would be fun to play some sod with ya again. 🤙🏻
My boy! ❤️🔥
Yessir!💪🏻
Never thought I'd be riding with a ghoul in this show v which was unexpected and it just works, right...?
Absolutely! It’s a great pov 🔥
Personally, I wonder if Barb started off with good intentions, becoming so high up in vault tech, because she wanted the best for her family and ultimately was corrupted by the influences around her
john wayne at the first thanksgiving 😂
would it be possible for cooper to know the sole survivor? idk abt Nora since she's a lawyer (maybe they met in the vet reunions) but if Nate's the canonical character... would that be possible?
Nate was in the Army, and seemingly active duty until about a year prior to the Great War, while Cooper served in the Marines. So...probably only limited contact at best, since they'd be serving in different units while fighting in Alaska.
We need the next fallout to feature the Lawyer Vault
This would be glorious lmao
17:50 Looks like either Wednesday, January (i couldent make out the date) 2077, or Wednesday, December (Couldent make out the date) 2077
It is 100% early 2077, that much is sure. So the bombs drop several months from this point.
The timing of movie where he needed to go against his code and the "opening" of the position of being Vault-Tech's spokesman is a bit too convenient. You at least have that as a motivation to sway him over to the Vault-Tech company.
It’s “The Govermint” not Government
I liked to see the process of how he became a ghoul
lots of questions mostly answered. Such as.. the Enclave.. where are they operating?.. killing puppies and making ultimate weapons
