My theory with that convoy is the president (or body double possibly?) got a warning that nuclear bombs were on the way and got an emergency airlift with just enough room to fit everyone but the poor limousine driver.
I bet the body near the limousine is the newly elected president Di, the one impeached for jaywalking and hiding for months probably to hide from threats. And the previous president and Enclave member being Bagman still giving orders like he is still president. The newspaper thinking the president is at the oil rig is probably due to members of the Enclave considering and treating the former president as the real president, which is why he was able to give orders despite Di being the elected president. The Enclave are the type to subvert the whole government considering their past actions.

Funny thing about that is that they completely forgot to make the white house and it was 1 week away from shipping so they just made the white house a hole in the ground
What I find interesting about this is that it shows that the Enclave wasn't this omnipotent force that played everyone like a damn fiddle. People where onto them, to the point that they might have had to set their plans into motion prematurely or didn't have enough time to prepair completely. Maybe the people investigating the Enclave before the bombs fell, while failing in the short term, actually lead to the Enclaves downfall some hundreads years later.
@ltdbob the limo had a military escort and is simply carried by a White House aide. Which is more than can be said about the time President Clinton left the aide holding the football behind at a NATO summit and the aide had to walk back to the White House. Or the time President Ford's aides lost the nuclear football at a summit in Paris. Or the time Clinton lost the codes to use the nuclear football for months.
My personal theory is that Zeus was the final American president, and Bagman was the Enclave’s chosen president. So there were two presidents, and the Enclave orchestrated the assassination to remove the opposition/avoid a potential power struggle. They wanted their chosen President to be solely in power.
Yep this is my takeaway as well. My only further takeaway is that Bagman was probably someone very high in power in the standard government as well. I think he is likely the VP and as you said chosen leader of the Enclave. The president being killed would also give him nuclear authority and make him both the Enclave and American President upon his successful Coup which would tie up that potential loose end. His name also suggests he "brings the money" as "Bagman". So he is ether a paid off corrupt official or a very powerful businessman who also has political power.
But people like Eddie Winter found out about the bombs ahead of time because of contacts. There's no way the actual president would have been completely clueless.
I'd love to watch Nate play through the games, even on an easy difficulty, and just explain the lore as he encounters it, discovers new things, and goes over connections. Even if Nate then still made these videos to go in depth over new details because in the moment you can only recall so much
I assume it's wordplay on a few levels. In British slang, a Bagman is the runner who carries an illicit purchase from the supplier to the buyer. But following from that, we have a more American phrase, "caught holding the bag." So if the last politician chosen by the Enclave is left with a really shitty job, I think either figurative use of the term works well.
A popular codename for the Whitehouse is Olympus...where Zeus and the other gods lived. I think it's a safe bet that they're alluding to Zeus being the President and Bagman tasked Mr Osborne with taking him out.
Edit: I take it back, the Vice President is also given a nuclear football and biscuit, to be used if something happens to the President. So it is possible VP Bagman had the President shot and then had to use the nukes. But we haven't received much of any indication before now of that and that is an extremely small window. The problem with that is that Bagman sends the launch orders and codes, something he would need both the nuclear football and the nuclear biscuit for. And the biscuit is kept on the President's person at all times. Of course that is presuming it is the actual nuclear football and not a fake that was swapped in by Bagman. But even then the executive order would be coming from the president, not the VP and the terminals would be giving the President's name not the VP's.
The British Prime Minister being at Rapidan Camp when the bombs fell is a pretty major revelation since it implies quite a few things. First, that the UK at this point had not devolved into anarchy as a result of the resource wars, and was a functioning nation, perhaps even a regional or global power. Second, that it's possible that pre-war the Enclave were looking to recruit politicians from other nations into the organisation, perhaps giving the Enclave global ambitions post-war, the reconquering of America being only the first step towards global domination.
If the UK was still a major power and assuming that both the UK and Canada still have the monarchy wouldn't the UK be super angry at the US annexation of Canada could they realistically do anything about it? No, additionally the implication that the UK is a sovran entity outside the European Commonwealth could imply that Brexit is cannon in the fallout universe
@@thebrittaniondragon6183 Actually, the fallout 1 intro states *"the European Commonwealth would dissolve into quarreling, bickering nation-states, bent on controlling the last remaining resources on Earth."* So it's possible the UK was part of the EC until the end, however by 2077 the EC has disbanded and thus would be back to individual sovereign entities
@@thebrittaniondragon6183 I don't see why the UK would be especially upset compared to any other nation by the annexation of Canada, the monarch's position as head of state is purely ceremonial in Canada, it's not the same as it is in Britain where the Prime Minister draws his legitimacy from the monarch, the Canadian PM doesn't have to ask the monarch to establish or dissolve parliament. Also by 2077 I imagine most international organisations such as the Commonwealth of Nations would have dissolved.
I have a theory that Bagman is actually the Vice President. He probably acted as the president’s (Zeus) bagman receiving and distributing the illicit funds for the Enclave project hence the code name. This might have caused him to be in closer contact with other Enclave members than the president which allowed him to seamlessly take command when he ordered for the sniper to take out Zeus leaving him in charge regardless because of chain of command. I also find it interesting that the VP is the only member to have a “message sent” notification for the early warning system.
This is my view. Bagman can be slang for a corrupt politician who takes bribes, such as one working with the Enclave. Zeus would more than likely be the President (White House has been codenamed Olympus by presidential security). My theory is the President knew nothing about the Enclave, and was a patsy while VP was the true power broker.
@Cthulhuvong or in classic Enclave fashion the VP turned on thr President because he wanted power or they disagreed about something remember Autumn vs Eden in the Capital Wasteland
Did you ever talk to the vice president in fallout 2? His stat sheet must have featured 1 intelligence. 😂 I dont think he was capable of anything besides walking and breathing. Look up a video of his conversations with the chosen one.

Putting an Enclave base in Norfolk (spesifically the Norfolk Naval Base) makes a lot of sense considering how military-centric Norfolk is in real life. Driving around while having a military drone flying overhead watching for traffic violations every day was a surreal experience that took some getting used to.
the entire east of coast of Virginia, especially closer to the south near the mouth of the Chesapeake bay would be a perfect spot for a fallout game. NASA, Langley, the naval weapons station, the Atlantic fleet headquarters, Oceania, old Yorktown, the battlefield, the shipyard. it is one of the most defended and staffed areas of the United states, and would definitely be a perfect fallout location.

I like to think that ‘Bagman’ was the vice president, and he had called out a hit on the president (Zeus). Sadly, Harry Osborne messed up and killed Bagman by mistake (the skeleton with the bag…). That would explain why messages were sent to the president and VP, but there’s no confirmation the VP had received his (he was dead) Perhaps, as the VP rushed to safety while the bombs fell, he had been hit in the chest by Osborne’s first shot. While the soldier got the med-kit, the VP desperately launched nukes at China, only for Osborne’s second attempt to be a head shot

50:20 You mention that the President and VP aren't properly addressed in the entry on screen but it definitely shows the President got the message and proceeded to PR_002 but that it was the Vice President whose message was never confirmed.
yeah, it clearly says "Pres" and "V Pres" I had to rewatch that part a few times trying to figure out where it said Pres a 2nd time until I figured it out.
Exactly, and saying that it might be the vice president but probably not because he's "not properly addressed"? When all other positions are also not in full? What does "V" mean in his mind? Is he high?
I can't seem to get enough of these Fallout videos. They're so captivating and immersive, like stepping into a whole new world. The attention to detail and the storytelling in this franchise are just incredible. I could spend hours watching these videos and still not get tired of it. It's like falling in love with a game all over again, every time!\
Fallout Canada would be interesting. Think of all the vicious animals - moose, bears, wolves, wolverines, Canadian geese, geese wake up every day and choose violence. Imagine an irradiated mutated Canadian goose.
I love how in the games, most of the buildings that have the statues and the surrounding buildings too are granted protection from the bombs that caused the destruction
It looks like the Enclave was using the order of succession to stage a coup, but still have a legitimate rule. An order to take out Zeus, Zeus being the head of the Greek pantheon most like was the president. The VP not receiving the early warning. Members of Congress and certain cabinet members being removed from the early warning. Assuming the current succession order applies, Bagman is either the Secretary of the Treasury (above Sec of Def and Att Gen), or Secretary of the Interior (below Sec of Def and Att Gen, but above Sec of Agriculture).
The fact that the president was travelling to West Virginia, potentially on the day the bombs fell and due to arrive at 4PM when the bombs fell around 9-10AM suggests he may have been mid transit meaning he could be at another location like NORAD
I'm slightly inclined to believe that Zues May have been Fallout's Sec Def. Especially if he wasn't replaced as the Enclave was starting to take over. The SecDef being the highest in the chain of command (second to only the Commander in Chief) would likely be one of the first people Armed Forces Survivors would rally behind if they did not have contact with the President and it would make sense to take him out so that any Armed Forces Survivors would fall in with the Enclave or whoever was deemed "in charge"? Of course now we know that didn't quite work out as a portion of the survivors created the BOS.
Thank you Nate, its clear how hard you and everyone worked on this one. I've always felt like the pre-war government was like a cross between a snake eating its own tail and a hydra. It's why the Enclave can keep going even after we kill the current "leader." They're always scheming and shifting the hierarchy, and you never know if you're really finishing the job or just making it easier for someone else to take their turn on the throne
Clearly not that hard, if they don't read the actual text, to see that *it is clearly marked that the "No confirmation" warning message was sent to the vice president* and then proceeds to make a completely incorrect speculation, predicated on not actually reading the terminal.
My theory: Zeus was the current president. Bagman was either a former president or perhaps the Vice President. The way that the guy on the tower, when questioned, immediately defended his patriotism implies that he wasn't in fact a patriot, and was either a chinese agent or some insurgent placed to take out Zeus so that Bagman could take over. The black suitcase was probably the football and upon Zeus' death, control of the nukes fell to Bagman. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that the Enclave was already preparing for life after the war, and felt that the current president was no longer needed after his usefulness expired (using government funds to lay the groundwork of the organization).
I think that "Zeus" is the Vice President. The Cabinet Nuclear Alarm Logs say that the VP was sent an early warning, but he never responded to the message. The President himself was already at the Poseidon Oil Rig, so I think its likely he sent his VP to the Camp to meet with the Prime Minister in his stead, as he recognized how close the world was to nuclear war. The President, acting as "Bagman", had an assassin kill the VP on his way to the Camp, preventing him from responding to the early nuclear warning, because the VP was likely a powerful figure in the Enclave, given his contact was kept in the Cabinet Alarm system. I think that the rest of the Enclave leadership wanted the VP to be included in the Enclave post great war, but the President saw the VP as a threat or he just wanted him gone, so he had the VP killed to tie up that loose end, with the Prime Minister visit just being an excuse to get the VP to a location he could be killed at.
Even before watching this, I remembered the bit from the Boston Bugle about the President disappearing, supposedly to an oil rig codenamed Command Station Enclave. Not to the fallout 4 but yet, but I think it’ll be there

I will say, I didn't hear your background music at first and got a little sad, but then I heard it, just really quiet haha. Once again another great video!
I'm waiting for Bethesda to completely "forget" they made that bunker because they're scared of high expectations when they actually set up some interesting puzzle pieces
You probably hear this a lot, but you have a very soothing voice, and you are only one of three Bethesda Game RUclipss that I can listen and fall asleep to.
Fantastic video as always! Love watching your longer stuff, as it gives me something to listen to and think about while I'm working on my art. I've never been a huge Fallout guy (at least, never been interested in actually playing the games), but it's very fun to hear the lore and theories you and others come up with. As for thoughts... I assumed the note left for the PM was supposed to allude to the president arriving late and Harry's task being aimed at him! Perhaps the note was still there because it was set out on the same day he was supposed to arrive... and then he never did. That's just my thoughts on it anyway. Very excited to see where this goes!
On the identity of either "Bagman" or "Zeus", based on the latter's large security and the mention of a briefcase, I believe one of them is the person charged with guarding the codes for the nuclear missiles. I remember a couple of cartoons, movies, comic book stories, and novels labeling this person as "Zeus". Now two reasons I have to doubt this, however, is 1: "Zeus" has been given as a codename for The President himself, as well as other powerful individuals. 2: The last piece of "evidence" is the lack of mentioning the briefcase being handcuffed to his wrist, which is required at all times. Now my reason for also suspecting "Bagman" is mainly due to some media having given said codename to the carrier, as well. My reason for doubting him though is due to not having mentions of a security detail that would be usually be around someone of such importance. Now both of these men being the carrier is based solely on circumstantial evidence from Hollywood and not any factual real world evidence, but considering FO is a videogame universe, real world evidence doesn't always apply. All this said, really enjoyed the video, Nate. 8/10
54:05 Holy shit yes. I’ve been WAITING to see anything about the US Navy in the Fallout games. Having an Enclave presence at Naval Station Norfolk makes PERFECT sense. It allows easy access to the Atlantic Ocean without having to build all sorts of new infrastructure, and any ships that survive the Great War would likely have been at Norfolk. I’m taking this to mean Bethesda has some sort of plans for the Norfolk/Hampton/Newport News area (maybe just some tidbits, maybe something more major that we can look at).
I wanna point this out for nate there’s a good chance that Nate went to Alaska where the US government still had 50 states and came back to 13 colonies bc the max amount of time is 8 years max Just imagine you’re fighting Chinese in the wasteland you call Alaska comeback and you’re entire government changed like to you over night
34:00 honestly the TV show's idea of (TV SPOILERS STOP READING) vault-tec shooting first is more interesting than China shooting over FEV, IMO. It also fixes the plothole of "why does nobody rebuild, why is everyone in crappy shacks? because vault-tec nukes them to have a monopoly on the future.
Given the connection between the faces on all the buildings and the Lovecraftian conspiracies, my theory is that Vault-tec learnt that Dunwich Borers were trying to turn the whole of the US into a replica of the cities that once served the eldritch horrors. Vault-tec dropped the bombs to stop them. The stuff in the TV show is just them looking for potential backers without giving away what they know
I don’t know if anyone mentioned this yet, but there is one terminal in the slocum joes bunker that you run through with the railroad. It confirms that the us didn’t strike first
First off: The President's codename being Bagman like he's heisting the Presidency from the WH to the Enclave is perfect. Secondly: At this point I'd just call him President Bagman. If the Enclave's President's name was a dick joke than the last US President's name being a balls joke is fitting.
The Zeus, Bagman, sniper thing could have been the Football, aka the nuke codes? Would make sense if the enclave was trying to wrestle the codes from military control to enclave control. Or to just take that capability out of the still existing American military hands. I mean a lot of those military guys were already enclave, but not all of them. Would totally track that the enclave feared a post-nuclear civil war within a still existing military chain of command. After all, thats kinda how the brotherhood got started too.
What if it's a turducken? If, during the reorganization of the United States, they actually kept the old system while placing a new one overtop with even less accountability, then the President could have been impeached by the HoR and "Congress" as institutions beholden to separate structures. Bagman could be the President while Zeus could be the Super President, or vice versa. This could also feed into why the Enclave and BoS are so totally separate if they were parts if different levels of beurocracy. It sounds overly-complicated, but it's kinda perfect for a capitalist hellscape since there's unlimited ways to skirt accountability.
This is perfect because the whole point of the scenario was that the ruling government staged a coup by prosecuting their opposition for something as innocuous as jaywalking. Also hammering the point that you can "indict a ham sandwich" if you have control of the justice system. The fictional story perfectly illustrates the Democrats attempts to jail their political opponents to protect their power. Your response to this is to side with the people doing the prosecutions.
Hey Nate, just a bit of feedback, I really appreciate that you sped up your pace this time a smidge. The pacing was wonderful and the video was excellent, well done!

But people like Eddie Winter found out about the bombs ahead of time because of contacts. There's no way the actual president would have been completely clueless.
The VP never got where he was going though, according to the messages in whitesprings. Makes me consider him
The only president I recognize is John Henry Eden, President of the Enclave, President of America, President of your Hearts.

@@BinkDeadpool my thoughts exactly
I think that Bagman is an actual name just because the name “Di BAGman” sounds like something Fallout devs would name a politician. 😂
You missed dbag ... @@Levacque
Just a note: In Fallout: New Vegas the nuclear launch authorization in Hopeville is also registered to “Bagman.”
A popular codename for the Whitehouse is Olympus...where Zeus and the other gods lived. I think it's a safe bet that they're alluding to Zeus being the President and Bagman tasked Mr Osborne with taking him out.
Especially with the black briefcase next to his skeleton. Presidents usually have the nuclear briefcase handcuffed to their wrist in war tv shows
@@swiftfated Not handcuffed. It’s carried by an aide who is always nearby at all times.
I think Zeus was pres and bagman was vp?
Edit: I take it back, the Vice President is also given a nuclear football and biscuit, to be used if something happens to the President. So it is possible VP Bagman had the President shot and then had to use the nukes. But we haven't received much of any indication before now of that and that is an extremely small window.
The problem with that is that Bagman sends the launch orders and codes, something he would need both the nuclear football and the nuclear biscuit for. And the biscuit is kept on the President's person at all times.
Of course that is presuming it is the actual nuclear football and not a fake that was swapped in by Bagman. But even then the executive order would be coming from the president, not the VP and the terminals would be giving the President's name not the VP's.
the president is at control station enclave it cant be him.
Perhaps a reference to the Lord Rothchild than the PM of UK.
I have a feeling the president was never even going to meet him there, and it was all just bait
@@thebrittaniondragon6183 Actually, the fallout 1 intro states
*"the European Commonwealth would dissolve into quarreling, bickering nation-states, bent on controlling the last remaining resources on Earth."*
So it's possible the UK was part of the EC until the end, however by 2077 the EC has disbanded and thus would be back to individual sovereign entities

President Nate? And this is… your presidential speech? Sign me up
I like to think that ‘Bagman’ was the vice president, and he had called out a hit on the president (Zeus). Sadly, Harry Osborne messed up and killed Bagman by mistake (the skeleton with the bag…). That would explain why messages were sent to the president and VP, but there’s no confirmation the VP had received his (he was dead)
Perhaps, as the VP rushed to safety while the bombs fell, he had been hit in the chest by Osborne’s first shot. While the soldier got the med-kit, the VP desperately launched nukes at China, only for Osborne’s second attempt to be a head shot
Seems to point to Zeus was VP as the president made it to PR. the message to VP was never acknowledged.

You are a god sent gift if information.
Working on a fallout rpg campaign set in Kentucky, and i appreciate all the work you guys do and upload
The black briefcase was probably the nuclear football. It goes everywhere with the president implying that bagman wasn't the president
My theory:
Zeus was the current president.
I thought it was gonna be silent for a second at the start 😭
New EpicNate?! This just became a good day.
Always good to see a new EpicNate video

The preaident hiding during nuclear war sounds exactly like soemthing that might happen in the next few years. Started by him of course 🤣

Holy shit yes.

First off: The President's codename being Bagman like he's heisting the Presidency from the WH to the Enclave is perfect.
Secondly: At this point I'd just call him President Bagman. If the Enclave's President's name was a dick joke than the last US President's name being a balls joke is fitting.

I honestly think it's a reference to Lee Harvey Oswald, the guy who killed JFK.
That was my first thought too, but I'm not sure what exactly it would be referencing, other than the two having the same name
The summit of political and industrial leaders mentioned in the letter to the governor may have been shown in part in the show's season 1 finale.

But I'll stick to it. Just because I enjoy digging through the wastes of fallout doesn't mean I need to at home ❤😅❤
Nate saying "things are about to get crazier" has to be one of my favorite things on YT.
19:52 note that the authorization code is 00000000, which sounds ridiculous but is actually real. For a long time that was the authorization code in nuclear missile silos. Simply because it's quicker to type in.
Loved laying down to see an hour long EpicNate fallout lore video ! Thank you much :3
