Did this on my 2013 Yamaha WR250R last week. 300+ pounds, bald rear tire, and about 14 HP at the top. Still made it. Incredible views is right! This is the best video I have EVER seen. Well done!
Did this trail last summer. It was epic! This video was my inspiration to go do it myself. Excellent work. Probably watched this one video 30 times now.
wow thanks so much! it is an amazing trail i’d like to revisit, glad it all worked out 👍 i’ve definitely watched videos over and over in the past, my inspiration for the channel.

@@BRollOffroad hey, a bunch of us 100 Series LandCruiser owners are going to be camping above Salida again this July and running trails all along the Collegiate Peaks (Antero, Peak10, Mosquito, Santa Fe Peak, etc). Definitely welcome to join us if you can. Feel free to PM if you think you could join us (July 22-July 26). Hope all is well.
@@garyeanes4747 oh man bringing back memories from a year ago haha i'm doing that same trip (in CO this time but same crew) 3-10 and i'm going to a wedding on the 31st, also leaving for a river trip in 2wks so i don't think i can squeeze that in. i definitely need to do some work at some point haha. thanks for the invites though!
@@BRollOffroad Boulder Mountain is the first right turn about a mile up the trail. There's a mine and small mining storage shack at the top. About 12-15 switchbacks on the way up and awesome views of the Mt Antero switchbacks. I've always been the only one on the trail since most people want to go up Antero.
weekly? that’s nice! coming into Johnson Village is when i start getting excited haha, such a good view from 285 as long as you’re not completely stopped.
A few years back we were in Buena Vista. We drove up to St Elmo and drove up on Tin Cup. We wanted to do Mt Antero, but ran out of time. At the time there were those gem stone tv shows on the weather channel, and Antero looked like so much fun. Now I wish we would have done it. Awesome video!
nice well you’ll have to check it out next time! Tincup is cool though, that’s where i ended up camping after coming up short on Pomeroy. there were a couple events in town that weekend and everywhere was packed except Antero. super crowded at the bottom but after halfway i saw only 2 more cars, one at top of Antero and one on Mount White. thanks again!
Nicely done camera angles! Can’t beat Colorado wheelin’. My 4 Wheelin’ motto: Get high on mountains! My wife gives me a hard time for solo off-roading, but can’t always find someone to go when I want to.
i get a lot of questions on this, you can plan for it and be fine imo but i grew up disappearing on our ATV every day until i was on reserve fuel haha. i have enough stuff to stay for a week and there's no way a week (or even an hour) would go by without another person doing this trail. some are less traveled but might be within 10 miles of a town. everything is situational, i take way less risks alone, turned around on many trails even though i think i could make it. i also mess with mud and snow less and less each year haha.
Rode up that on a dirtbike in 1992, remember the stream crossings...........now im watching the same trails on a computer screen in 2021. Never though that would happen. Might have to go back. Life is short. There was a National Jeep convention / trail drive/ride in the area that week too. It was snowing on the peaks on that August day, with lightning strikes in the valleys below. Freeky when your riding metal and past the tree elevation!!
@@BRollOffroad I have lots of photos from there, and wheeling over that stream. Also one photo near the top of the lower peak with it snowing. The August lightning snowstorm made it freaky/memorable. And the furry little critters that lived in the rocks. Like little fat squirrels. I had to re-jet my carbed two stroke half way up. Better four strokes and two strokes with fuel injection have eliminated that.....but for a price. We rode the trail to Tin Cup too...cool place. Stayed at the Buena Vista KOA near the river. Fun times. Ate at the Pizza Hut a lot lol!
Enjoyed the trip, but a little too much drone video although it was done well. I have always loved the scenery going to Antero. I would have enjoyed a little more footage of the switch backs and pull offs as a lot of people are concerned about them. Thank you for showing what your rig is as some wonder whether their rig is up to the task. All in all a good video. Thanks for the ride.
thanks, appreciate the feedback! the ratio of drone/tripod is determined by the trail, any actual obstacles i'll film with the tripod but this trail is so easy it's mostly drone. a trail like China Wall that's mostly obstacles is going to have more tripods. i did cheat once on the switchback with the snow but that's because i already had it setup and a storm was rolling in, i was at the top for maybe 3mins and immediately started heading back down haha.
@@BRollOffroad Its a lot like the passes around Ouray and Telluride, the clouds come in and leave fast. That saying if you don't like the weather wait an hour is true.
definitely but in this case i should've waited like 10mins haha. i just couldn't see out at all and it seemed like it was going to finally start raining or hailing so i left. on the way down is when it cleared and i got the 2 final shots which are technically the best lighting-wise. even the last shot is washed out on the right side because some fog came over the ridge and started to settle in the first bowl where the lake was. always an adventure just trying to film these haha!
let us know how it is if you still go, a report from 10 days ago says it's impassible a half mile in because if ice. your trip is going to be a couple weeks from that but might want to reschedule. if it's a bust the whole Fourmile Area NE of Buena Vista is open.
This, IMO, is your best work yet. The music fits the mood, the camera/drone work is great, the scenery is jaw dropping. The trail doesn't have to be a terror to be enjoyable. By the way, did you track elevation during the drive and, if so, where did you top out?
@@jeffreyanderson8983 thank you so much! it took nearly 5hrs to get to Buena Vista that day, 7hrs to film, 3hrs to get home, an hour of listening to songs, and finally 6hrs editing, so i really DO appreciate your and Bo dhi's comments. i had a few duds there for awhile (and DNF's) so i really wanted to put out a hammer this week.
i don’t remember it being sketchy anywhere as long as you’re good with shelf roads. probably hard to pass in a few places but it’s over a lane wide for most of it. for reference if you’ve ever been, going around the boulder on Saxon Mountain was way scarier than anything on this.
EXCELLENT VIDEO! 👏👏👏. How long did it take? The shelf doesn’t look that bad from the video? Was it as bad as Saxon Mountain or Radical Hill or some of the San Juan trails or not so intimidating?
thank you so much! i think it's supposed to be under 2hrs but took me about 7hrs with the filming. the skinny spot on Saxon with the boulder is much sketchier than any place on this trail, way easier than Radical Hill.
awesome, you’re in the right place! i have an easy/medium/hard playlist if you wanna check it out. i filmed Hancock Lake and have done the pass twice, haven’t done Black Bear yet though. don’t have much from that area.
it’s so open it’s easy to see if someone is coming in a section, there is room on most of the switchbacks to make a pass. technically uphill has the right of way but if you’re a car length from a good passing spot and someone comes around a corner it’d make more sense to back down a car length than have them back uphill a half mile if that’s the case. everything is situational, communicate with other people on the trail and you’ll be fine.
hmm.. most of the harder stuff is right at the beginning so you’d know pretty quick if you were going to make it or not, once the good stuff starts at the switchbacks it’s actually pretty smooth. is it possible? maybe, but it’s going to be pretty violent getting over those rocks in the beginning if you don’t have low range. also if you got to the switchbacks and it started raining or something it might be sketch in 2WD.
oh cool, house is coming along nicely! i recommend the Xterra to everyone, shares a few parts (like the frame) with the Titan so it’s presumably overbuilt. has lots of power, drives fine. the seats are only OK and if buying a pre-2010 model gotta watch out for SMOD but there’s tons of information on what to look out for. other than that the leaf springs are crap so just get a lift that replaces ‘em and you’re good to go.
